ARSENE Wenger has warned Manchester United getting knocked out of the Champions League could dent their Premiership hopes.

United defend a 3-2 semi-final lead against AC Milan and are on course for the treble, although they could also end up empty-handed.

Sir Alex Ferguson's men are five points clear at the top of the Premiership with three games to play but would need to lift themselves quickly for Saturday's derby at Manchester City should they lose in Italy.

Arsenal boss Wenger, who saw his side's form dip after their Champions League exit this season, said: "The team that goes out of the Champions League now - whether it's Manchester United or Chelsea or Liverpool - they will have a little dip because it's like losing someone from your family.

"You need time to recover from that. The team who goes out will suffer in the championship. That is for sure."

The Gunners were knocked out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage earlier this season and then won once in five games.

as per usual wenger has a comment to make, only this time nobody is really interested what he has to say, how the mighty have fallen. he must be feeling lonely being left out of all the mind games that are going on at the moment, maybe he should find his level and start a ding dong with s pearse.

i think how you respond from defeat is what seperates teams and although losing would dent our confidence this side have the quality and maturity to respond well! just look at the loss v portsmouth!

Wenger, thats how it might work at arsenal. No spine and can't take defeat like men.

Its worthy remembering that Arsenal got knocked out of every competition in the space of 10 days. Thats enough to knock the stuffing out of most footballers.

If we do lose tommorrow, we still have the league and the FA cup to fight for. And anyhow, our lads are made of sterner stuff than the ones under wengers command. They've demonstrated that each time they have suffered a set back this season. They've always comeback and put on a sterling performance in the next game.

Win or lose tommorrow, city are in for a spankin' on the weekend. Can't wait.

Wenger should just focus on getting some points off maureen to save face. Can't let them humiliate you in your own back yard now can you.

Judging from your team's performance, losing a 49 game unbeaten streak at Old Trafford is like "losing someone from your family" too, huh Mr Wenger?

Like Demo says, the mark of a really great team is how they bounce back from adversity. These comments show that not only are Arsenal not a great team but this probably stems from their manager.

Remember the wheels coming off "The Invincibles" after we beat them? That won't happen to a team managed by SAF. We've already shown this season that we've got bouncebackability in spades!

According to whingers theory then the chavs are screwed...by the way lets not forget the ugly scenes during the Carling cup there will be some retribution sunday the french will want revenge! Plus did anyone see the reactions of the chavs last night they are not in good shape the last thing this bunch want is to go to the emirates to get a win. Although not that happy the scousers won but absolutely loved the exit of the russian olympic diving team loosing so football fans around the world won't have to watch dogbreath falling over poleaxed, joe coles dying swan impression, bobbins incredible diving ability (who recently introduced the technic to cashley)in the CL final ...what a horrible team run by a horrible manager!

loved maureens comments had me in stiches yet again "the best team lost ok maureen" and how can you call l.pool a small cup team????
Hell be saying that about evry team next money and 2 titles gone to his tiny brain.
Im a man u through and throuth but for once wished l.pool to win last night so hopefully we can mett them in athens and win like back in 99.

No, Arsene, we are made of sterner stuff - that's why we're better than your team of "invincibles." In any case, the same would therefore apply to Chelsea, thus nullifying this debate. Why am I even bothering to respond?
