The Reds defender hasn't started a Champions League match since the fringe players were on duty in Denmark against Copenhagen back in November four European matches ago.
But now he has been thrust into a key role as Sir Alex Ferguson's spring injury curse decimates his back division.
It has cost Fergie the services of Gary Neville, Nemanja Vidic and Mikael Silvestre in less than a month.
Brown will now either be at right-back or partnering Rio Ferdinand in the centre of defence in the Olympic Stadium.
But Brown, who is a Newcastle summer transfer target, is concentrating solely on the job in hand against Roma tomorrow night.
"Everyone seems to be looking upon us as favourites for this quarter-final but at this stage it is anyone's game, says the 27-year-old Mancunian.
Difficult
"Roma will be a very difficult side and will make it tough. It is a proper European tie and the Italians are always difficult to play against. However, we are looking forward to it and I think was a good draw for us.
"The situation we are enjoying in terms of form and confidence puts us in a position where we think we can win the game.
"I also believe being away from home first is an advantage. If we can beat them in Rome it will make it very difficult for them back at Old Trafford.
"The fact is we are looking to win both games and the aim is obviously to get through to the next round."
United travelled to Italy in buoyant mood having overturned Blackburn Rovers 4-1 on Saturday at Old Trafford to hit peak Premiership form and keep a six-point title lead over Chelsea.
But the League crown will not get a mention by the players.
"We are just going to keep going. We have never said we have won the title or anything like that," added Wes.
"Obviously we are getting nearer the time we can think about it but at the moment we keep our heads down and keep grafting for victories.
"It is in our hands. We are playing well and everyone is in the right frame of mind."
Where would you play Brown? Have your say.

If all the lads do there job then we can do well tomorrow!
I think Wes will partner Ferdinand in the middle.
If all the squad players get enough games played then when we get that trophy back Wes should be one to qualify for a medal!
Come On You Reds!

This is a great chance for him now. He has bags of experience in big matches so let's hope he grabs this opportunity with both hands.
I for one have faith!
