Febian Brandy gave United a flying start with a goal in the third minute and substitute Antonio Bryan completed the 2-0 scoreline 12 minutes from time.
Young German goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler was United's hero in the first-half, making two spectacular saves to keep out Latic's Kallum Higginbotham and Paul Black.
Latics' Lewis Alessandra went close to pulling one back but Zieler stood firm preserve his clean sheet.
