Manchester United

Preview: United v Bolton

RIO Ferdinand has been cleared to play in Manchester United's Premiership clash with Bolton.

Sir Alex Ferguson rejected reports that Ferdinand is suffering from a cracked rib and though the England defender has only returned to training today he will be available for the encounter with Sam Allardyce's men.

The Premiership leaders do have injury problems though, as Louis Saha (ankle), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (knee) Darren Fletcher (ankle), Mikael Silvestre (shoulder) and Edwin van der Sar (calf) are all out and with Henrik Larsson now back in Sweden, Ryan Giggs is likely to play up front alongside Wayne Rooney. Paul Scholes is suspended.

Bolton manager Sam Allardyce will make a late decision on Kevin Davies’ fitness as they prepare to face United.

The striker has returned to training following a six-match absence after suffering a chipped bone in his ankle.

Abdoulaye Meite is expected to shake off a toe injury and return to the defence after suspension.

Manchester United (from): Kuszczak, Heaton, Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic, Brown, Heinze, Evra, Park, Ronaldo, O'Shea, Carrick, Giggs, Richardson, Eagles, Rooney, Smith, Dong.

Bolton Wanderers (from): Jaaskelainen, Walker, Ben Haim, Meite, Hunt, Gardner, Nolan, Campo, Speed, Anelka, Davies, Pedersen, Teymourian, Thompson, Diouf, Giannakopoulos, Faye, Tal.

Last season: United 4 Bolton 1

I'm gonna be controversial here but I see tomorrow's game as the most difficult league game left, bar the match against Chavski. And, with a gap of 6-points I had always assumed we might lose to Chavski and lose or draw one other game but still take the title. Bearing in mind we're missing Scholes, Evra and Saha and the fact that Bolton are a quality side, I can see this being a game where we drop points. If (and it's a very big if) we do beat Bolton, I think we've taken a MASSIVE step towards the title but I'll be happy with a point.

On paper MU should win comfortably at home. However, top teams tend to get complacent and lower their game against weaker teams. They end up just managing to scrape through. When MU plays off their regular pace, they become disjointed and vulnerable to any team, let alone one as good as Bolton. Playing at OT means nothing if all 11 don't come out with determination to play your game!

A lot of our supporters do not appreciate Rio enough.. I dare say he is THE reason why our defence is so solid this season.. He brings a calming influence and also organization to our backline.. It's just plain ignorant to write him off as a laid-back overpriced defender because he clearly isn't.. You're never worried when he goes one-on-one with attacking players because you know he'll do the job.. I mean, just look at our defence without him, it's just not the same.. He has his odd lapses but hey, I wouldn't swap him for any other defender in the world..

Mick, I agree.

This'll be a big test tomorrow without at least 4 quality players who would all start if available. I am a bit concerned but the Blackburn game could be even harder on paper, so I'll be very plesaed to have those four back for that one. Every game now is a potential banana skin but Chelsea have exactly the same problem. Don't know if that makes me feel any better though?

Agree Mick although i dont actually think Evra will be a loss tomorrow. With the way Bolton use Kevin Davies, i think they probably would have stood him out on Evra and put plenty of high ball into him. I think Heinze is perfect for a team like Bolton. If we can win tomorrow then i cant see us slipping up. There would be 8 games to go and it would take Chelsea a minimum of 3 games to pass us. With Saha out i think we've got to look to Rooney to get his scoring boots back on

That's a good point, Birdy, but I think (hope!) Kevin Davies might still be injured and with Scholes and Saha out I would opt for Evra's qualities going forward over Heinze's defensive attributes. Having said that, Gabby had his best game of the season against Boro, if he kicks on from there we won't miss Evra at all.

Mick, Dublin, we all agree that Bolton won't be easy but make no mistake, we will NOT be happy with a point. All and sundry will have marked this down as a home win and the tabloids will have a feast day if we don't win. By the way, is Evra fit or not? The M.E.N. includes him in the list in its preview but i'm not sure.

Just heard SAF saying Evra's fit. So we should line up as follows: Kuszczak, Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra; Park, Carrick, O'Shea, Ronaldo; Giggs, Rooney SUBS: Heaton, Brown, Heinze, Richardson, Smith

Now that's macho Rio!
Hope that it's sebsible decision!!
We need the points tomorrow!
Bolton will be their usual difficult selves and can be expected to put up a fight.
We're going to miss Louis' mobility & pace!
Hope we don't get stifled in midfield! That'll be an important battle!
Up The Reds

Saha rocks, I think your starting eleven will do the trick, although I would mind seeing Giggs in CM and either Smith or Dong given a run. As far as subs go....I would have Richardson in the stands and either put Dong on the bench or bring in one of the reserves although I am not certain who....but as a matter of principle these kids need a chance!!! and Richardson just doesn't make sense...he's classless and has had his chance!

sorry to say this but united are very weak in depth and will miss scholes if you can get a bet on them to win nothing this season get on ..

Got to admit I wouldn't put money on United winning the Premiership at 6 to 1 on, even though we can drop 6 points and still win it (even if Chelsea win every game).
Despite getting good results over the last few weeks, we all know the Reds aren't playing as well as they were.
Against Bolton, I can see us getting hustled out of midfield and I don't think the back line has much confidence in Kuszczak. (Couldn't we get Foster back ?)
It's all going to be down to Ronaldo again up front, but I sense a frustrating game for United fans today.

Good to know Rio is available. One hopes he does not have an off day as he sometimes does, and donate a goal or two. This is a very critical game; indeed all games are in the run-in. If we beat Bolton and Blackburn on March 31st, surely Chelsea will start to believe the trophy is ours; because we can get a draw at Stamford Bridge and stay 6 points clear. Clearly Chelsea, unless there is a miracle, is going to beat Shefield United later in the evening. We must beat Bolton to show them their victory later has no effect. Good luck to the team and one hopes the manager gets it right.

Big BIg game today bolton are a side capable of undoing us as they have done before.
Im glad in a way to see young players such as eagles and heaton are being given the chance, although i would want a full strengh side to keep hold of those priceless 6 points.
Just go and attack attack attack.
No holds barred.
Come on the reds.
