Rooney fired up for Treble

WAYNE Rooney has got the scent of trophies in his nostrils and believes United are in a powerful mood to take on the Treble task.

Despite being forced into a replay by Middlesbrough in the FA Cup quarter-final after the 2-2 Riverside draw, the England and Reds striker isn't concerned about the fixtures clogging up.

"We have home advantage in the replay and we have a good draw against Roma in the Champions League so we are still looking strong," said Rooney.

"We are coming towards the end of the season now and obviously everyone is thinking about finals and hopefully winning the league. I am the same.

"We would have liked to have gone through but we haven't and the main thing is we are still in the draw. We have to be confident of beating anyone at Old Trafford. We are professionals and I am sure we will be OK. We want to play all the games.

"We did well in the first half at Middlesbrough and were disappointed to lose goals just before and just after half time. But we did well to get back into the game.

"Losing the Cup Final to Arsenal in 2005 was a bad feeling and it is an extra incentive to go back. If we can get there again and have that many chances again I am sure we will take a few of them. I was pleased with my goal at Boro, I hope there will be a few more."

I wonder if any of other contibutors noticed Rooneys mood on saturday. He played the entire game with a scowl on his gace and he didnt even smile when he scored.

I wish the press would stop banging on about a Treble - it's still only March and there are plenty of games left.

BobbyD, I'd be unhappy too if I looked like him! Just kidding! He hasn't played well at all this season, he's probably frustrated by his own form.. He has left me wondering whether he'd ever be back to his best a la last season when he carried the team through single-handedly.. If he can get just up to 80% of that level and couple that with Ronaldo, we'll be unstoppable..

A Mancunian - spot on, I'm starting to hate the T-word! If we win the League & F.A.Cup and are 4-0 up with 5 mins to go in Athens, then maybe we can start to talk T, but until then silence is golden.........

No talk of treblés!!
Please no. We aren't even good enough!
With the midfield options we have (not)it'd be tough call!!
I'll be happy us liftng that PL trophy in may! Anything else is a bonus I feel!

I agree it will only be time to talk about trebles when we are 3 goals up in the 89th minute of the CL final! Far too soon and probably optimistic to be thinking about it

I do hope that Rooney returns to his great self before the season is out! He can be great just watch some clips on youtube to remember his best bits!

The only thing he's got up his nostrils at the moment is whiskers !! we looked very poor on saturday - like ateam running out of ideas and steam. We need a big strong performance soon because at the current rate we are heading for a fall.

Let's all come back down to earth.When Ole scored to achieve the treble every supporter leapt to the moon and it took about a season and a half for me to land back on my sofa in front of the telly.It isn't impossible is it? It is however unlikely.I was a bit concerned that when we were 2-1 down at Boro we began taking wild pot shots.If we can stay composed!!!!
Chelski are favourites with there seasoned professionals and megabucks.....we are asking an awful lot of UNITEDS young players.

What's with all the bottle merchants? 6 point lead, the road to wembly couldn't be easier and a couple of Italian clubs to beat to get to the CL final(sounds familiar), it's definitely on. Ironically our biggest obstacle is the same in all 3 competitions, Chelsea. Still somebody's got to beat them and there's nobody better for that job than United!

I don't agree with this superstitious nonsense about not mentioning the treble. We are in with a great shout for it and I never thought it would be done again in my lifetime. I still don't think it will, mind you. But long may our involvement in all three competitions continue. Come on guys, we're in a fantastic position, show some belief, enjoy it!
