CRISTIANO RONALDO: Winger takes a tumble against Lille

CRISTIANO Ronaldo is reportedly in talks over extending his Manchester United contract.

Speculation over the winger's future has been rife ever since his contoversial involvement in Wayne Rooney's red card at last summer's World Cup.

However, despite a hostile reception from fans in England, Ronaldo has produced his best form to date this season and is a major reason the Reds are still battling on three fronts.

The 22-year-old told Portuguese radio Antena 1: "We have talked and I hope to reach an agreement as soon as possible but nothing has been decided yet. I would like to stay.

"Everyone knows I really like Spain, that I would like to play in Spain one day but I am happy here at Manchester. If I don't leave now, if I leave in two, three, four, five years, I would be happy, I am at a great club."

Ronaldo joined on a five-year contract in August 2003, which he extended by a further two years in November 2005.

It seems strange to say this, at the end of a week in which we won every game, beat the dippers, stretched our lead at the top of the Prem to 12 points (albeit briefly) and got through to the QF of the CL but here goes anyway... Finally! Some good news!

Good news. I think the guy has seen that Barca and Real Madrid are not playing as good as we are doing after being booted out of the Champions league. Manchester UTD Rules. Forever United.

Look at it this way, Cristiano. Sure, any footballer with your talents would, at some stage, want to test himself on another stage, probably La Liga. But do you (or, for that matter, anyone else) really fancy Real Madrid, or even Barca, right now? Real have had umpteen managers in the past five years and what have they won, exactly? This year all they have to fight for now is the last CL place -- sort of our equivalent of Bolton (no offence, Bolton). After Wednesday's farce in Munich I suspect there'll be yet another new face in the hot seat at the Bernabau before long, possibly even your fellow countryman The Specious One. I can just see him being a 'yes' man for whoever is in the Presidential chair, promising the earth and delivering next to nothing. And Barca? They didn't look so hot at Anfield the other night, knocked out by the team we beat almost every season. I'd stay put with your Uncle Alex, pal, even if you don't like the weather. Maybe give Spain another look in about three years. That's if they can stop arguing.

Ronaldo will stay...the best player in the world...United now must sign Torres and Hargreaves in the summer to complete a world class team for 2007-2008..

What great news, assuming it's true ?!I'm sure 100 per cent of utd fans will agree on this topic & 100 per cent of other fans will be disappointed !! A new contract for Ron would be the best bit of business the club could do this summer. If the Glazers have anything about them, and jeez do they need good PR, they'll do the deal and then announce it themselves alongside Ron !!

Finally a story about ronaldo that involves a proper quote from somebody who is in the know (himself) rather than some naff footballer who cant make it in the PL or some fake agent probably hired by barca or real madrid. Great news son i knew he would realise united is the place to be. Like i have said before he is young and can move to spain in say 5 years and still have plenty of time there!

It's on the official website today. And confirmed with quotes from Fergie. There's alos good news on Saha and Fletcher's injuries. Saha might be back for Blackburn and Fletch due back not long after. Possibly the first time this year we've had two consecutive good news stories! The Fletch update is specially for bobbydazzler, I know you've been beside yourself with worry ;)
