Manchester City

City looking to push on - Shaun

ENGLAND hopeful Shaun Wright-Phillips celebrated a goal-scoring milestone in Sunday's derby win and then promised to set his standards even higher.

The 22-year-old City ace passed his best total for a season when his injury-time solo effort took his tally to nine.

He is now on the heels of ten-goal Robbie Fowler in the race to finish second to Nicolas Anelka in the end-of-season scoring charts.

"I have a lot more confidence in my finishing this season and things have been going really well in that department. Remember there are ten games left and I hope I am not finished yet," he beamed.

"The main thing about Sunday's win was not my goal but the boost the three points gave the side. It moved us further away from the bottom of the table. We have got to take that result to Leeds with us next week and make it work for us.

"The really important thing now is that we build on what we have achieved. It will be no good if we lose our next game. We have to go on a run of decent results and see where that takes us. The key thing is to make sure the win over United was not a one-off.

Predictions

"We will be looking up the table and not over our shoulders. We are not making predictions but we know we are better than our current position in the Premiership. A few wins on the trot and we can shoot through the pack up the table."

Wright-Phillips, who had such a swollen left foot after the United clash that he couldn't get his shoe on, has continued to show his versatility during the Blues' spring revival, doubling up as a full back and midfielder on occasions. He has a philosophical view of his role within the side.

"Sometimes you have to do what is best for the team and the people around you. I have no problem playing wherever the gaffer asks me to. It is all part of my footballing education and hopefully it will make me a better player in the future," he added.

"I feel like I have been playing quite well but so has the team. That United win didn't come out of the blue. We have been putting in some excellent performances like against Chelsea but this time we managed to put some goals on the end of it.

"We have set ourselves a very high standard and we have got the ability to stick to it."

Will City pick up a lot of points from the last ten games? have your say

SWP an England hopeful? Englands subbuteo team. VERY hopeful is more like it. The only good player you lot have got is Van Buyten, and he'll be at Old Trafford next season. Lucky win for you boys Sunday, if you get your binoculars out you can just see us in the far distance, 28 points in front.

A true rag supporter eh Kaleed! Lucky, i think you must have been watching a different game. As for points from the next ten games, after Sunday i expect a full 30 points to come our way. Sounds a bit far fetched but we have not got any of the top 4 to play so why not?

Khaled - You'll have some strong bino's yourself then as it's probably the only way you'll ever have seen your 'local' team in action at OT. Keep it shut until you are in a position to comment i.e. out of your armchair!

Khaled, I realise you live far away, but even you must recognise the part Wright-Phillips played in our excellent victory. As for lucky, well you hit the woodwork twice, and the first one of those van Nistelrooy was offside on the post. Apart from that you had very few clear cut chances, and none that I can remember in the second half. We had four chances and scored them all. Yes you are 28 points ahead, but we are heading rapidly towards each other, don't you think?

How many times have you been to OT Khaled? SWP for England? You bet! Stick to your own rag pages. I would rather have our players than the gutless clowns that play in red.

Thanks for that Khaled, but even with our binoculars we can't quite see you sat there in your armchair in Bangladesh!

Butt and Phil Neville for England but not Shaun? Only one of those three could turn a match (in England's favour that is!) - get him in the squad Sven!

I think you were lucky against us on Sunday. You ahve no international players like us and our quality. Phillips is a small talent in a little pool sorry to say. The Reds will bounce back!

khaled another local rag,why would dvb want to go to the sty,if he goes anywhere it wont be a backward step.

Khaled,Take your defeat when it comes.Re SWP and your opinion, stick to judging cricket players, and that 28 point gap could be much closer be4 the season ends.

Great goal Shaun but wake up & smell the coffee regarding your mates. I'm sick of the quote "This could turn our season around" this has been trotted out since November by Keegan & every player that gets interviewed or has a microphone stuck under thier nose. So now that the dust has settled on a fine victory lets not forget one win against the Reds doesn't make a season. Keegan should still be shipped out at the end of the season & all of his Ex England "stars", they are all past their sell by date & doing nothing. Steve McManaman, Trevor Sinclair, Robbie Fowler & Calamity James are just using us as a retirement home. Imports, Nicolas Anelka, Paulo Wanchope, Gerard Wiekens, Sylvain Distin, Jihai Sun, Michael Tarnat, Danny Tiatto, Paul Bosvelt, Antoine Sibierski, Christian Negouai are simply not good enough for this club & rarely show the spirit needed here. Lets make sure of Premiership suvival & bring in a manager with some fighting spirit like Bryan Robson who is now doing a fine job at Bradford with very little money. He will soon turf this bunch of slackers out & bring some pride back to this under achieving club.

More clownish comments seewoo. If that was lucky, long may it continue i say. Then you get some idiots saying we had scrappy goals. Listen carefully - it does not matter if they are scrappy or out of this world - they all count, and it all adds up to 4-1. If you want to harp on about luck, think back to a certain final in 1999 - there's luck for you. But then again you probably weren't watching and only started supported the rags on the back of that (flukey) success.

Khaled, I realise you were sleeping in Bangladesh during the game. So you are excused on having a fuzzy mind at the time. Luck does not play out here. Look at the facts:
Last 4 derby Prem games:
4-1 win 3pts
1-3 lost 0
3-1 win 3 pts
1-1 draw 1 pt
Total pts: City 7 Utd 4
We won't win a trophy this year but City trounced Utd, once again.....PRICELESS!

Still, I suppose you rags from such faraway climes probably watch the games on such rubbish as MUTV. Now we all know that MUTV makes Pravda look positively unbiased so I suppose you were bombarded by claims of luckiness on our part and all the injuries, suspensions, and how there is a worldwide conspiracy against Man.U. That Republic of Mancunia banner is there for good reason you know. Stalin would of been proud of the misinformation that seeps out of the swamp on a daily basis. The funny thing is all you hapless suckers fall for it!

Khaled and Seewoo. Just a few points for you to consider. 1. Look at the Dark side of this website and you can actually see The Swamp for the first time (even if it is a picture). 2. Champions League - Laff. 3. Premier League - Laff again. And finally, 4-1. Nuff said.

CU Seewoo - no internationals eh? DJ (Eng), RD (IRL), DVD (Bel), SMc (Eng), CR (US), RF (Eng), SWP (Eng U21), SJ (Chi), TS (Eng), MT (Ger) and on the bench... AA (Ice), PW (CR). Luck had nowt to do with it - you were pants!

Seewoo Kim - another good mancunian name!- City have no international players? A little more education for you. Of the 14 players that appeared for City on Sunday 10 are full internationals of which 6 are currently in their international squads. At least 2 of the others have represented their country at U21/U23 level, not to mention Wanchope on the bench. Keano was right, some of you rags really know nothing about football - stick to the prawn stir fry!!

khaled and seeweed , haveyou ever watched the rags.i find it laughable to see the likes of you spouting your wisdom on our site, cos no one takes you serious on your sorry site,YOU LOSERS

Dim Kim, you clown! Take a look at our team sheet for Sunday's game and tell us which City players are not internationals. No wonder you support the Rags - you haven't a clue what you're chubbering on about. If the Neville's play for England, so can SWP's granny.

noone seeems to have noticed that when Ronaldo hit the post straight after we'd scored, he was offside from scholes' original shot

4-1 ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
So shut up.

Also Martin the horseface was another postcode offside, but as so often happens for them, the lineman can never get his flag up when the horseface is offside, but somehow against Blackburn at home Macken was judged offside in OUR half..
