City kids make their mark for Ireland

MANCHESTER City youngsters Willo Flood and Glenn Whelan helped the Republic of Ireland Under 21's to a 0-0 draw in their opening match of the Madeira tournament.

Flood, still eligible for the Under 19's, played the opening half against co hosts Portugal, while Whelan, on loan at Bury last month, completed the full game.

Another promising City kid Paul Murphy misses today's Irish Under 19's game with Slovenia in Dublin. Murphy scored in a 2-0 victory over the same opponents on Monday but was later injured.

Good to see that weve got youngsters playing at such a high level. The lads presence in the irish under 21s shows that they must have some talent. I hope they keep on developing and become useful first team players.

Whenever you read about City's youngsters,it always about the Irish boys, these players because they live in Ireland, have not attended the clubs academy for weekly coaching! This it seams has been to their advantage as none of the local kids who have been coached for years, are breaking through. Is this because they are not good enough,or is that the natural skills of the local lads is being replaced by thr robotic indoctrination of the clubs FA trained coaches.
Shaun Wright Phillips was a free transfer from Forrest and Joey Barton was also a late arrival from Everton so where are the local lads!

Paul Murphy plays for Leicester City, not Manchester City folks.
