Bolton Wanderers v Manchester City: Player ratings

JAMES: Two world class saves in the opening twenty minutes laid the platform for the team's comeback 8

WRIGHT-PHILLIPS: Versatility has always been one of SWP's great strengths and he showed it again at the Reebok. From goal scorer to right back he has the lot 6

DISTIN: Only one up front for Bolton made life a little easier for those at the back but they coped much better with the abundance of crosses 6

DUNNE: One crunching early tackle on Pedersen showed how much he meant business and he held the line well after the opening onslaught 6

TARNAT: Delivery of dead balls is amazing with its accuracy and pace. Picked out Fowler for the opener 6

REYNA: Busy, neat and tidy without anything flash f in a crowded midfield battle. He held firm when needed and went forward when the play allowed and you can't ask for much more 6

McMANAMAN: Three games on the trot in which he has had a big influence suggests he is now in his rhythm 7

SIBIERSKI: Another effective but understated performance from an intelligent player. Ought to have scored with second half header 6

SINCLAIR: Climbed off the treatment table without any training to help his manager out and did a sterling job in front of Wright-Phillips 6

MACKEN: Great foil for Fowler and the two seem to be on the same wavelength. Pity he didn't get on the score sheet 6

FOWLER: Two wonderful strikes one with his head and one with his right foot that showed his football brain is as quick as it ever was 8

Substitutes:

SUN: (for Macken 74m) - Jet lagged and bleary eyes after dash back from China but solid enough 5

ELLIOTT: (for Fowler 88m) - Great energy and might have had a dream start had Wrighty worn his passing boots - too late to mark

JORDAN: (for McManaman 90) - too late to mark

Not used: Arason and Negouai

Which clown gives these ratings? It has to be a relative of Trevor Sinclair! How on earth can you give him the same rating as Tarnat never mind the rest? I have been one of the German's biggest critics of late but he was excellent on saturday linking up superbly time after time with Macca on the left. He actually looked like he was playing for that contract next season where as Tricky Trev hardly touched the ball especially in the 2nd half. I know he's been injured but that still doesn't justify giving him the same mark. Whoever did the ratings probably watched the ITV 'highlights' (yeah right) program!!

Fowler played well but doesnt mean he is world class i say loyal players are better than fancy players

Does the person who gives these ratings even go to the game? I went and although football is about opinions saying Sinclair gave "a sterling performance" is not just generous but blinded as he was again at his ineffectual best. Not only does he continue to not beat his man he also never manages to supply anything decent into the box. I hate to call any City player but Sinclair has been given a fair crack of the Whip but continues to fail. A guy sat behind made the excuse that he tries - Yeh, tries my patience!!

A word for David James (and Ari). I am sure that their impact benefits the team. Against Bolton James made some good saves and also seemed to take command of situations in a way we haven't seen since Schmeichel. This confidence really helps the (sometimes shaky) defence. Along with the signing of van Buyten this should really give us a defensive boost. The future looks brighter !!! Come on City !!!

Didn't see match (excpet for 10 secs on MOTD) so can't comment but did see Berko v Liverpool. Why oh why couldn't KK turn it round with him

Is this Trevor Sinclair that we got the international?
Please explain why he gets medium marks, when he has not been close to being City's sixth best player in any game since he came?

Sanks. Does it not worry you that Tarnat "looked like he was playing for that contract" as you put it. It does me. I agree he was superb against Bolton and he has been OK overall since joining, but why do they only start to play better when they think they might not get a new deal? (Rhetorical question that!). I think Jordan is ready for the step up for left back anyway.
