TREVOR Sinclair has vowed to up his game at City in order to win a place in England's Euro 2004 squad.
The Blues midfielder has fallen well down the pecking order with England and is not even guaranteed a place in the City team following a slow, injury-disrupted start to life in a Blue shirt.
But Sinclair is confident that he can re-capture the form that saw him impress in last year's World Cup and force his way back into Sven-Goran Eriksson's plans.
Back in training
"I have to take time to get over my injury properly, but hopefully I will be involved next Saturday after a good week's training," he told Sky Sports News.
"I'd love to gatecrash the Euro tournament, so I am working hard to get back to full fitness, put in some good performances and hopefully get back into the squad."
City currently sit sixth in the Premiership table, but Sinclair is aware that but for shock defeats to Wolves and Leicester they would be established in the Champions League places.
And the 30-year-old feels it is essential that Kevin Keegan's side start showing more consistency as they look to better last season's ninth place finish.
"We have not been as consistent as we had hoped for and we've got to improve, but it takes a bit of time to get used to a new ground," he said.
"I'm sure we'll turn the corner and get some more consistent results."
Sinclair was a second half susbstitute in the international friendly against Croatia in August, but he has not started a game for his country since May and missed out on the key Euro 2004 qualifiers.
And with England likely to take a maximum of eight midfielders to Portugal, Sinclair knows he is well down the list with David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Steven Gerrard, Nicky Butt and Frank Lampard assured of places and the likes of Joe Cole, Owen Hargreaves, Kieron Dyer, Jermaine Jenas, Danny Murphy and the emerging Scott Parker also competing for places.
Can Sinclair still seal a place at Euro 2004? Have your say.

Trev shouldn't have to up his game ! He should be giving 100% every week he may then feel entitled to an England shirt. Stop going missing in matches Trev, maybe you'll get noticed
The sad fact is he just is not good enough
Trevor has a very slim chance of getting in to the Euro 2004 squad but that should not affect his attitude on the pitch for City. He should get over his injury problems and get on with the job of getting us in to that 4th spot. But for two disgraceful performances that only Man City could conjure up we would be fourth and just two points behind the Rags. Fans should note that Wolves hadn't scored at Molineux until we played them and Leicester had failed to take a single point away from home until we played them. Why oh why does our team produce performances like those when they can as equally trounce sides like Southampton and Charlton away and absolutely destroy teams like Villa and Boton, both of whom, I would suggest, are somewhat better than Leicester and Wolves. KK and the players need top concentrate on the team selection, team form and individual form before they will get anywhere near looking at European football next season at whatever level, or the honour of being picked to represent your country in the second biggest football tournament in the world!!
He should be upping his game to play for City, never mind England. I'm starting to believe all those WHU fans that said he vanishes in games.
Although a City fan I used to have a season ticket at QPR when living in London before moving here (South France). Sinclair was then consistent, game after game. Always available and always working hard. Never disappeared during a game. And this was when in Premier, not just Div 1. His goal scoring ability was awful (just used to power a shot, inavriably high or wide) but his effort, commitment and ability could not be doubted.
No he wont get into england team and no he wont be a regular in the first team if he performs like he has done so far. poor signing on the face of it hope i am proved wrong sooner rather than later.
Can,t see a quote anywhere about TS vowing to up his game, but if he has then he should remember he is realizing many peoples childhood dream ie playing for the team you support,so I totally agree with the previous comments,if he hasn,t said this then he should up his game as he,s been pretty ineffective for most part.
Robbie Fowler has more chance of making the Euro 2000 squad....na,only joking....Sinclair so far looks a really poor signing, has anyone seen him dribble or run past anybody or even put in a decent cross. B#50 million in debt no wonder when you consider, Fowler, Macken,Vusuo, Negoui,Sinclair, there is B#20m of it plus loads of wages...Yes we have come a long way but so have Birmingham, Bruce seems to have been a lot more astute in the transfer market!!!

no chance of getting in the england squad. i would choose:
David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, Owen Hargreaves, Kieron Dyer and Scott Parker.
and Andrew - city didnt win those games against leicester and wolves so stop whineing about it. there's no point in saying "what if"...
BAD BUY.
never will he play for my country again.
Cannot understand KK for this buy. he is not up to the standard of the premiership, believe me.
Neil G, there's absolutely no chance of Fowler getting in the Euro 2000 squad, it was 3 years ago! Come on Trev, show us the real skillful City-loving star we know you are. Keep the faith!
He never waas good enough for England - In the right place at the right time when we had a 'bit of a crisis' during the World Cup. As for paying B#2.5 million for him - I still think it was too much for a 'squad player'.
I don't think we've seen the best of Trevor so far this season. I'm hoping he'll improve when he's has a few more games under his belts.
As for his England chances; If the Neville sisters can get in the squad then even an out of form Sinclair must have a chance.
Trevor Sinclair needs to be showing his worth at club level before he can claim an England place and quite frankly he isn't! Mind you the Nevilles have got into the England squad many times in the past when they were and still are mediocre or average at their best, but as a City fan who recognises a good player from an average one,Sinclair still has a lot to prove!
I disagree completely that Sinclair has been a bad signing. I would ask those fo you who witnessed the debacle of Sunday and indeed the Groclin game as to why we played so badly. The reason was blatently obvious to me but apparently no one else on this page. When City have wright-Phillips and Sinclair in the same team it gives us width, and also opens up the middle of the park. Sun and Tarnat also benefit incredibly as they have an outlet to play with instead of having to just lump the ball forward. No, Trevor, will not make the England team and hasn't been outstanding for us yet but then again who has on a regular basis, but he does give us balance, 100% effort, and he is a solid addition to the squad. Also stop waffling on about the B#50M debt. We have been through this before on these pages but our operating profit shows that we are generating income to comfortably cover our annual interest charges and are therefore paying off the debt without real problems. Stop worrying, it would only become an issue if we go down and out revenue falls accordingly. Onwards and upwards.
I agree in most parts Rob. TS does give us balance but i believe Danny T would give us more on the left. David White did more for City than TS and he should never have played for England. TS is not an international player if he was he would be contributing more to City and one of the first names on the Team sheet (which he isnt).
The debt we have is nothing like Leeds it is a long term debt for the Stadium, well substainable, and we are in better financial state than most premier clubs and have a new stadium already.
manchester council have a new stadium. mancheter city have a 50m debt.
