Late strike sees Blues home

Manchester City Res 1 Birmingham City Res 0

NEDUM Onouha had cause for an early birthday celebration last night as he helped Manchester City Reserves snatch a last-gasp 1-0 win against Birmingham.

Onouha, 17 today, bundled the ball home in the 88th minute for his first City goal that gave the home side a welcome three points.

The midfielder was there in the six-yard box to chest the ball into the back of the net after Chris Shuker - playing his first game after returning from his three-month loan spell at Rochdale - had fired in a wicked cross from the left.

It was no more than City deserved but they should have had it sewn up long before the end with John Macken missing a string of chances.

The striker's best chance grazed the crossbar as he attempted a lob from 20 yards early in the action and Shuker and Bradley Wright-Phillips also had good opportunities to give the Blues a welcome cushion.

Shuker saw a strong drive well saved by Birmingham keeper Nico Vaesen, while Wright-Phillips saw a powerful strike fly agonisingly wide of the right-hand post.

Manchester City Reserves: Ellegaard, Flood, Jordan, Wiekens, McCarthy (N D’Laryea 75), Onouha, Shuker, J D’Laryea, Macken, B Wright-Phillips (Bermingham 69), Tandy (Ireland 66). Subs (not used): Mathewson, Collins. Booked: J D’Laryea (35), Flood (41). Goal: Onouha (88)

Good to see Keegan making so many of Saturday's under performing outfielders to play in the stiffs last night - Where were they all Kev - teambuilding?

I was not at all surprised to read the words *Macken*, *missing*, and *string of chances* - That really gives us reason for optimism. At least he's getting chances - No doubt he'll be firing more blanks regularly in the first team very soon....

Lavinda Past I presume that a rag wrote that comment using your alias, as if it was actually you doing that, then I suggest you lie down.

KK stated at the begining of the season that the players who do not play in the first team will not be playing in the reserves, but they will in fact be the up & coming youngsters the club have, that gives them expierience against the players who have played top flight football at other clubs and to see how much the gap is between the two sets of players.....i.e. Opposing 1st team players who didn't play at weekend against a mixture of City's u17, u19 with two at the most what you'd class a first team squad members.

We won, so what are you moaning at now?, why should he have fielded a side of high earners who would not have been one bit bothered about reserve team football..(but kids will try in their to impress, whereas the likes of Berko, Fowler, Anelka, Sib will see it as degrading..and quite right to).

Fair play Neil - as a matter of fact I largely agree with everything you say. My initial comment was a throwaway line, leading up to my main point about mis-hit Macken. But don't you really wish Saturday's side had been given a sharp reminder of the real world? I know I do. The problem is that they'd probably have lost! Like you say we won and have the points in the bag!

I'm tired of lying down - can I get up now Neil?

By the way, what led you to think that my name is an alias (which it is not)? If I ever used an alias it would be something witty and sharp like Don Kee***. CTID!

I am not saying your name is an alias, I was questionning whether or not a rag wrote that saying they were you, as the majority of the time you do speak a lot of sense on these pages, and well to be perfectly honest....your first comment baffled me.
