Blues fans await Euro fate

MANCHESTER City fans should know by the end of the week how many of them will be allowed to travel to Poland for the second leg of the UEFA Cup-tie with Groclin.

Long-serving secretary Bernard Halford is flying to the tiny ground - via Warsaw and Poznan - for a summit meeting with the Polish club's officials and local police chiefs.

The British Consulate will also be represented.

Blues Safety officer Peter Fletcher, interpreter George Bergier and a representative of Greater Manchester Police will accompany Mr Halford on the six-hour trip.

Among the issues on the agenda will be the number of away tickets made available in the tiny 5,000 capacity ground, the kick-off time allowing for the extremities of the Polish winter, and the team’s training facilities and billet for the two days they will be in the country.

Pledge

“There is no indication yet about how many tickets we will get but we will be doing our best for our supporters, as we did at Lokeren in the last round,” pledged the well-travelled Mr Halford.

Tickets for the first leg at Eastlands on November 6 go on sale to season tickets holders from today until Saturday,to City card holders until Tuesday and on open sale from next Wednesday.

Three games have had to be shifted to accommodate the final UEFA Cup-ties of 2003, with City now hosting Leicester on Sunday, November 9 (from November 8) and Middlesbrough on Sunday, November 30 (from November 29), both at 3pm.

It means that Kevin Keegan’s side will not have a home game on a Saturday until Blackburn’s visit on January 17, 2004!

The City and United reserves mini-derby, pencilled in for Altrincham’s Moss Lane on November 6, now also needs a new date.

Why can't the Uefa ties be on a wednesday and then we can have a saturday game for a change - I for one think Sunday games are bobbins!
