City kids get Irish call

THREE Manchester City youngsters have been called up to the Republic of Ireland Under 21 squad to face Switzerland.

Glenn Whelan, Willo Flood and Stephen Elliot are all in the squad for the Euro qualifier to be played at Neunchatel on Friday night.

The City youngsters will all be hoping to impress as they try to push for some sort of role with City this season.

Flood has started just one game for the Blues, the 2-0 away win against TNS in the Uefa Cup, while Whelan came off the bench in that match.

To gain experience, Whelan has been loaned out to Bury, while Flood played in the reserve side that lost 2-0 to Aston Villa last night.

Republic of Ireland under 21s? - That's about the equivalent of being picked for your school team isn't it? Good luck boys. Don't forget to take your jackets for goalposts.

Lavinda,

You're right. Not half as impressive as being called up for the England u21s. Wait a minute, is that the same England u21s who failed miserably in their attempt to qualify for the European Championships.

England have an under 21 team as well? I'll bet they use really high quality umbro satchels for their goalposts.
