Local charities pin hopes on a Sky Blue Beginning

TWO local charities stand to benefit from a fundraising initiative launched by Manchester City to mark the Club’s return to its traditional sky blue kit.

‘A Sky Blue Beginning’, in conjunction with the Manchester Evening News, will run throughout August and hopes to raise thousands of pounds for children’s charities based in East Manchester and at the Club’s old heartland in Moss Side.

The sky blue and white star shaped badges will be on sale from the Club’s superstore at Reebok City and via the online shop at www.mcfc.co.uk as well as from vendors at the game against Barcelona.

Badges will cost £1, with all profits going to the chosen charities, Bristowe Street Playgroup in Clayton, East Manchester, and the ‘Active Dads’ project, based at Greenheys Adult Education Centre in Moss Side.

The two charities have been selected as they represent a ‘new beginning’ for local youngsters –tying in with City’s return to the sky blue kit of yesteryear and their move to the City of Manchester Stadium.

New beginnings

Bristowe Street Playgroup is hoping to build an outdoor play area for the 27 children in their care, while the ‘Active Dads’ project encourages fathers to play a more active part in their child’s life. The monies raised by ‘A Sky Blue Beginning’ will help to fund a part time placement for a counsellor for the coming year.

“'A Sky Blue Beginning’ is a wonderful way for us to kick off our new life at the City of Manchester Stadium and in the ‘Active Dads’ project we have found a cause which very much reflects our own hopes for a bright future,” said director of community affairs, Alex Williams MBE.
