Keegan sees boy Blues tame Tigers

KEVIN Keegan joined more than 800 spectators at Ewen Fields to see City Reserves kick off their pre-season campaign with a victory over Hyde last night.

The Blues scored both their goals in the first half against a Tigers line-up including plenty of familiar faces.

Jamie Tandy headed City in front from a Nathan D'Laryea centre.

And Chris Shuker, looking to make a first team breakthrough this season after loan spells at Walsall and Macclesfield, doubled City's advantage from the penalty spot.

Hyde's aim in the coming nine months is to regain their place in the Unibond League premier division.

Their squad included ex-Oldham midfielder Phil Salt, much travelled striker Tony Ellis - the Tigers' player-boss - and former Manchester United and Bolton player John O'Kane.

City's next second team outing is at Harrogate Town on July 22.

CITY: Ellegaard, N D'Laryea, Jordan, Negouai, McCarthy, Bischoff, Flood, Tandy, Elliott, Whelan, Shuker. Subs (all used): Schmeichel, Onuoha, J D'Laryea, P Murphy, B Wright-Phillips.
