Pearce not expecting win bonus

STUART Pearce has admitted there will be no extra cash to spend this month even though he has guided City to three successive wins over the festive period.

Two goals from Georgios Samaras were enough to see City past Everton at Eastlands, the 2-1 win maintaining the Blues' position in the top half of the table.

Samaras' efforts were his first since September, not much of a reward for the é6million Pearce invested on the Greece international 12 months ago.

And the City chief already knows there will be no similar funds available to him this new year as he looks to guide City towards an assault on a UEFA Cup place which appeared extremely unlikely until the current winning run began at Sheffield United on Boxing Day.

"There is no money sloshing around the accounts, so I don't imagine three successive league wins will have any bearing on the money I get from the chairman," he said.

"Any finance I do get will be coming straight out of the chairman's pocket again and obviously, with the input he has had already, there will not be a great deal coming to me.

"But there are no tricks and no hidden money. We have said that from day one."

City have been linked with Afonso Alves from Heerenveen, while reports have also linked the Blues with a swoop for West Ham's Yossi Benayoun.

Who would you like to see the Blues go for? Have your say.

Those 3 wins have not only saved the club from the potential of being relegated, they have also saved us millions in buying nobodies as stop gap replacements for Richards and Distin whom we may have had to sell to panic buy nobodies to save us from relegation ! Confused, I was until Boxing Day. Lets hope we can claw through the rest of the season, and it may well be our turn this year to be one of the premier leagues 16 also rans to finish 5th or 6th. The top 4 are untouchable, the rest of us are playing russian roulette each year.

I for one am getting fed up with the mixed messages the board and SP are putting out. I'd bet Paul Tyrell is jumping up and down whilst his fellow Politburo colleagues put out different messages and don't tow the party line. Mackintosh says the finances are fine like a mortgage he says and then SW-P is sold to reduce debts. SP says recently the club were forced to sell but that's not what Mackintosh said. John Wardle says a few weeks ago that there are two kittys for SP one if the takeover goes through and one if not. Now SP says yesterday that there is no kitty. I doubt there is a takeover in the offing and us supporters have been fed the latest lines from those who think they know better simply to keep us under control. Welcome to the comedy club that is City. The board are a joke and are mostly to blame for the way we are perceived as a small time selling club. Isn't it about time the directors came out to talk about the finances and left SP to get on with what matters most, the playing side?

I think Benayoun is exactly the kind of player we need if we can get him. I think Reading have got some good players. Not just Sidwell but also the left back Shorey has impressed me. Supports the attack and a very good crosser of the ball. Also Tonge from Sheff U is a good player and also a Blue. The other good young players will involve bidding wars so we will lose out to the big boys: SWP, Reo-Coker, Ashley Young, Scott Brown (Hibs), Billy Sharp, David Nugent. All these player will need fees of at least 3 million so that's us out then....

If we got Benayoun then that would be amazing, I'd settle for him for our January Business. As much as I'd love to see three good players come in, I'd settle for no-one out and Benayoun in. I also think there are players out there who could do a job on loan, Kevin Phillips (a finisher which we need, not long-term but he's not catching at WBA), David Dunn (with a few to a permanent move if he can prove his fitness), Justin Hoyte (if we're gong to continue playing 3-5-2 away from home), Stephen Elliott (Keane wants rid, why not bring him back on loan where he would be with his old mates see if we can get some goals out of him) ofcourse SWP would be nice and I'm sure SP will be looking at the Thomert situation closely (he is a similar situation to Disitin, the club want him but he won't sign). On Distin, I don't think he'll sign until he sees what is likely to happen in this window and the next as regards Barton and Richards. If those to go I'm sure he'll want to see the money given back to the manager, if they go and it gets absorbed into the debt then like all City fans he'll be a bit peeved and go, something unfortunately us foolish fans can't do.

No money - no investment - all a smokescreen to dig the Kremlin out of the biggest cross examination due at the AGM. Make do an mend should be City's motto.

Funny how the Takeover bid,has not been mentioned since the Boxing Day victory.Any reason for this ?

Im sorry, but I stop reacting on names, any names for that matter. Its no use with all these everchanging stories about money, no money, investors, waiting to see if City will stay up, etc. If you read back the stories over the last 6 weeks there will only be Cityfans left guessing whats going on financially at the club.
Just buying players is not always gonna improve a teamperformance, so I even wonder if were better off with another couple of new faces. Most of us hope the team can improve on the leftside, it can do with a creative spark in midfield and it can certainly do with a goalscorer. The end of January will see where we stand. Ive had it with the word tranferkitty. It might be a nice name for my new cat as soon as the old one dies.

Ian Bell, Aberdeen: I can't begin to tell you how sceptical i am over the 'takeover talks'. But i think the biggest clue as to whether these talks even exist will come this very month. If we have a takeover in the pipeline, then why would we need to accept 18 million for richards from chelsea? Clearly, if we sell micah for big money it effectively means no takeover, and the club would then be wise to confirm this in a statement rather than continue with their lies.

Benayoun would be an excellent bit of business. Other players I would look at (for cheap or on loan) are J'Lloyd Samuel (lost his way at Villa - a change of scenery may rejuvenate him); Diarra from Chelsea and Richardson from United (on loan). I'd steer clear of Dunn - he has not been fit for 3 seasons now. We also need a goal scorer - but they cost money. This is an extreme long-shot but Chelski are sure to buy a striker in the window, so what about a cheeky loan deal for Shevchenko?!

The club have been misquoted hideously. There has never been a takeover. A drunken journo overheard how the team coach had "...overtaken a Merc on the motorway..." and typically put 2 and 2 together to make 56. We all know there isn't a sniff of anyone other than John Wardle putting money into this club. John Wardle has already sunk a ton of money in and I'm not sure how much more he has got left to give. New investment needed more than ever, otherwise we are just papering over the cracks.

Given up hoping we'll sign anybody of any stature. Every transfer window has been the same with spin surrounding how many sigings and who. When it comes to it the only guarantee that we we get is that there's no money available. Always told by Macintosh debt is managable but then it comes out we HAD to sell SWP as we were almost at implode point. Quite frankly the guff that the club forever feeds us is insulting to all fans and beyond a joke. Positve spin at AGM time, empty promises at transfer time.
The recent wins have been so welcome (thank god!) but the performances have been dire and the club has NO players that get me out of my seat anymore and for others too I guess by the empty seats around the stadium now. At the end of the season I'd like to know how many S/T holders we'll have left. From a huge waiting list to maybe less than 15,000 in only three years. With the real truth that we're absolutely broke, I'm wondering where we going to get players to replace the out of contract Weaver, Jordan, Sinclair, Trabelsi, Thatcher, Distin, Sun, Reyna in the Summer, never mind improve the threadbare squad now? OK apart from Weavs and Trabelsi none of the others OOC would be on my shopping list and wages will be freed up but with no money as ever, are we just going to trawl the cast-offs to replace these also-rans? How's that for progression? Replacing half the squad in one not-so-foul swoop is not an easy thing to do and the teams that carry out such wholesale measures usually end up in trouble - Leeds, Forest, Wednesday. Continually scratching along is no good. Oh Lord, please let the only TRUE spin the club has ever fed us be about a decent takeover.

How about contacting Rangers for Barry Ferguson on loan till the end of the season? As he has allegadly wont play for his club again.

The club's accounts clearly indicate that there's no cash there without further borrowing, investment or player sales. Some inspired loan deals are required.

You guys never cease to amaze me, you really are a bunch of glass half emptys!!
As a shareholder I received a letter from the club informing by law they had to notify me (and others) of any interest, so I believe there is interest in a takeover/buyout, though as they say nothing may come of it - nothing more sinister than that.
Also all this talk of finance troubles - and having to sell players like SWP. We didn't have to sell SWP coz of the money - we had to sell coz he wanted to go.
Come on you guys cheer up, and stop looking for conspiracies everywhere.

OB1 where is this striker you told us all about?

I am sceptical about any thing that comes out of the current mouth peice of the board Tyrell. I for one do not believe that there is or was any take over in the pipe line; moreover that this was a smokescreen for the board who were panicing over the AGM. It saddens me to see the financial mess that we are in. The board can come out and say what ever they want but our current debt is circa £45mil
of which £20mil is owed to our COB JW and his partner JD. without wanting to repeat myself it is this pair who have over seen the financial mess that this club is currently in. It is they who have supported the disgracefull KK transfers which made the club a Knackers yard for crocks(McManaman) Socialites Macken, Sinclair Freeloaders, Vouso, Fowler the list goes on and on. In an earlier posting i dared to suggest that Anelka was a loss to clear this up i agree that he was one of the best players to don the shirt in the last 30yrs but to clarify the point he cost 12/13mil and was sold for 6mil so over 30months we lost 6/7mil only to see the Turks sell him on to Bolton for you guessed it a £2mill profit. Now back to the point I despite a turn around in furtunes over the xmas period still believe that SP should sack his farm mgr and should stick to farming or return to his trade as an electrician. The team we are watching is one of the most uninspiring teams i have had the pleasure to see. We as many others have pointed out have gone backwards in the most dramatic way in the last 4 years. We have one of the worst scoring records in the prem, we have the biggest drop in gates in the prem, we are the lowest transfer spenders in the prem, we are the biggest selling club in the prem. It defy's logic to see apparent small town clubs spending big ££££'s on big name stars whilst we look at the bottom of the bargain basket for dead wood. 3 points
1. Sell Micah if the price is right and he wants to go.
2. Tell Sylvain to go, he was nor will be ever worth 50k p/w
3. The club would have a "kitty" of 12 / 15 mil and a wage kitty of 60k p/w. Then give it to the new Mgr, Venables
Happy New Year Citizens

I cant beleve there is no money to spend i the january tranfer window we need money to buy a few players we will have to look for loan deals or free transfers

Chris Taylor at Oldham, top youngster and great skill on the wing, better tan Sinclair and more potential than Beasley! Get him for £1million maybe 2mill but a hot prospect! Anyone on here seen him play!

Given the way SP has played the transfer market thus far, I've no problem with us having little or no money to spend. GBP6m on Samaras still looks a lot of money for not a lot of player, while Corradi could hardly be less suited to the exacting demands of English football. As someone else has written elsewhere on this site today, shouldn't the scouts pick these things up before we open the cheque-book?

Report This Reply

I've seen Chris Taylor play and he can play. I'd be sceptical about signing players from a team that is playing so well. Form never lasts and in the case of Oldham, who I watch whenever City are away, the talent at that club is the manager Sheridan. We'll find out who are the good players at Oldham when they lose form. Gregan is the man whose making them tick but he's well gone 30.

The only player I would consider buying would be Earnshaw from Norwich if somehow the board could find 4 mil for him. Any other targets should wait till the summer.

Pearce must go NOW!!! Bring O'Leary in and let's get this mess sorted out. Don't let a couple of wins against the lower Premier league teams fool you. This guy is an idiot and must be pushed before he does more damage. I can't believe how small time we are being aceepting this guy. No wonder we always get laughed at. Come on City, get this sorted out and bring someone in who has the experience and knowledge to take this club where it needs to be.........Champions League!!!!

Does Pearce wear his pyjamas on the sidelines? What are those things that he wears. It's embarassing.....are they supposed to be tracksuit bottoms? Wierdo?????

Re: Bails Burnage - Kieran Richardson is the worst player ever to put on an England shirt. Cannot tackle, no awarness of what is around him and his first touch is dreadful. God help us if we ever get him.

Re:True Blue, M'Boro - Have you seen Barry Ferguson play recently? Never been the same player since he dislocated his knee at Blackburn. Stays in the centre circle giving hospital passess to players that actually run. We already have hamman and dabo to do that job.

Dougie, I hope you're joking about O'Dreary - he is a terrible man manager. As for Richardson - I think he's a good player who has not been given a true run in the team at the scum. Look at the way West Brom improved when he went there a couple of seasons ago.
