Barton appeal rejected

JOEY Barton will sit out the next three City games after his appeal against last weekend's red card was rejected by the Football Association.

At a hearing in London, it was decided referee Mike Riley had not acted incorrectly in dismissing Barton for serious foul play when he launched himself towards Abdoulaye Faye near the end of City's home defeat to Bolton.

In addition to this Saturday's game at West Ham, Barton is ruled out of the New Yearés Day home encounter with Everton, plus the FA Cup tie at Sheffield Wednesday on January 7.

Having been able to play Barton in the vital win at Sheffield United on Boxing Day because of the delay in the appeals process over the Festive period, it could be argued City have gained some kind of a result anyway.

However, Blues boss Stuart Pearce insisted his club did not just launch their appeal in an effort to bend the rules.

Verdict

éWe would not have appealed unless we were hopeful about Joey,é he said before the verdict was announced.

éWe have not done it for the sake of it and we did not do it just to free a player up.

éWe did it because we believe there was no danger to the opponent and I felt, at worst, it was a yellow card.é

Having collected his fourth booking of the campaign at Bramall Lane, Barton remains in danger of having to serve an automatic one-match suspension, which he will trigger if he collects another caution before the end of February.

How much will City miss Barton? Have your say.

We will miss him thats for sure but it just shows what buffoons are running English football throw youself all over the floor and feign injurys and thats ok but make a determined challenge for the ball and get a 3 match ban.

Could see this coming a mile off - plenty worse challenges have gone unpunished all season but as soon as Barton or City are involved the book gets thrown - give Johnson his chance as replacement.........

Really though, are we at all surprised by this? Dabo's red card against reading was less of a red card than barton's but his wasn't rescinded either. Some people (or maybe all) in the FA just need shooting, or at least sacked.

the bitterest blue, bitterville: I think Johnson is injured! I may be wrong though...

Farce. The FA would have been falling all over themselves to exonerate Scholes, Gerrard or Lampard but Barton's got the rep now so there was never any chance it was going to be overturned. How can Barton get the same 3 match ban as Lee McCulloch got for his right arm smash in the face of Chris Morgan. The world's gone mad.

Hurrah! maybe we will discover somebody who can take a freekick or a corner now"i'm the star so I must take everything or I'm taking the ball home" isn't playing. he could use the time practising passing.

Well what a suprise, why do we always get the rough justice ,though not suprised by the idiots at the F A, We will miss him thats for sure ,worrying thing is hope he is still with us after the ban has been served dont think i can take losing the 3 best stars we have ,though 18 million for richards is a farce and if we are offered it grab it.

Bitterest Blue - Fine idea, if Johnson wasn't injured himself....

looking at our remaining fixtures - i did a calculation of "expected" results - 17 is what i added up!! leaving us with 40 - which has put teams down b4 but should be enough seen as Watford,Charlton and Sheff Utd are pretty poor! i really hope this investor is close to happening.if we sell Micah, Trabelsi and Onuoha will fill that gap. but we really need a top left back (Billy Jones), Left midfielder(Thomert), SWP and Alves from Heerenveen would do nicely!!

Because Joey didn't do himself any favours earlier in his career the FA won't do him any now, thats for sure.

A ridiculous decision. It was a booking a no more than that. So much for abiding by referee's decisions, Psycho!

mike riley is a downright shocking just like Poll! Scholes was only yellow carded against Wigan for a far worse challenge, every team apart from utd are upagainst this and how these referees can sleepat night amazes me BUT what can anyone do about it? nowt! we have to live with it and Ferguson is laughing his head off sorry but football has become a FARCE all because of the likes of MUFC GREED and DIVINE RIGHTEOUSNESS!!!!!!

Spot the transfer in January - banned against Everton and won't be cup tied as he will miss Sheff Wed? Roll up, roll up for the greatest show on Earth - the MCFC Transfer Circus! Gasp - as the family silver is sold off to the lowest bidder. Oooo - as you watch the freefall into the Championship. Marvel - at the incompetence of the board. Swoon - at the naivity of the manager. Cheer - as the backroom staff once again get it wrong. Giggle - when the board finally sack the manager. Chuckle - when they replace him with another puppet with no money to spend. Sing - as the fans stop going. Your final chance to see this spectacle as Ring Master Mackintosh puts in one final, devilish performance that will have you rocking in the aisles.

Anyone can see the only reason city appealed was so Barton could play against Sheff Utd. So mission accomplished!

I think you lot have a chip on your shoulders - city don't get any worse treatment than any other club. Name me a player from any club who has a three match ban overturned by the FA? Rememeber Rooney and Scholes both got bans upheld by the FA after incidents in a freindly in Holland. The fact is, appeals rarely if ever succeed. Barton should learn when and when not to dive in - this is his own fault and if he wants to become a top player it is up to him to adapt his game to avoid getting so many cards and bans. Eat those chips boys and get real

Had to happen that - typical
Stupid FA decisions -

What annoys me is the fact that Red Riley is a disgrace - he has always been a red and never ever gives city anything -

This is going to knock city for a six -

After all - Joey is our TOP SCORER!!!!!!!!!!!

Nuff said

This is a result of Pearce being to soft with officials,Joey did not make any contact with the player in this case yet he gets a 3 match ban,the rags on boxing day, Rooney led with his elbow, cought the player, yet not even a yellow, its all a scam in favour of the bigger clubs, and yes we will miss him, badly.

Now isn't that a surprise? Do the FA ever get anything right?

Chris,Irish Blue - thanks, wasn't aware of that - amazing how many of our players seem to get injured when hardly playing - perhaps the MEN could get a comment from Wigley about that ?

Play Richards in midfield, He has three storming man of the match games with a couple of goals thrown in, price goes up to 25 mill pounds, eveybody's happy

My midfield for the city game would be Beasley, Ireland or Richards (richards would play at right back if ireland got into centre), dabo and trabelsi.

Whenever you see that Mike Riley is reffing our game, accept that we are going to get shafted. Did you see how quickly he gave the penalty at The Swamp on boxing day, keeping up his incredible record of penalty awards to his boys.
