Rumour mill: City eye Ligue 1 ace

CITY have been linked with a January swoop for Moroccan striker Marouane Chamakh.

The Blues have struggled for goals this season and are interested in signing the 22-year-old Bordeaux star.

Chamakh, who has just recovered from a knee injury, would be available for é2million, report the Daily Star.

The 6ft 1in forward has scored 26 goals in 108 Ligue 1 appearances, and he has two league goals to his name this season from 11 appearances.

Never heard of this guy. Sounds like another Corradi to me. When are we going to buy some heart-warming proven strikers again. The days of excitement created when we went for Anelka and even Fowler seem far away. All we are going for these days are unknown foreign players on the cheap who prove to be no good. We need to sign a quality name striker in January. The fans are already voting with their feet as our falling attendances prove.

He has scored '26 goals in 108 Ligue 1 appearances'! hardly prolific is it? well, to be fair, he is only 22. I haven't seen anything whatsoever of this guy, so god knows if he's a good prospect or not. This would be yet another gamble signing when we need a proven striker whom we have no doubt will succeed in the Prem. Nevertheless, he has just come back from a string of injuries, so as far as city's signing policy goes, he fits the bill perfectly!! Please God, not another crock!!

In a league that is worse than the scots themselves, a Bordeux "ACE" at 22 with 2 goals in 11, is like buying a bench warming forward from Falkirk, REALLY INSPIRING. We already have one uncut diamond to polish up, and an eyetie that needs to learn to stay upright. We would probably do best to save this money and buy our forward line a TomTom each, and maybe a ball in a bag training aid.

Pearce seems to have caught the Keegan obsession of collecting strikers :-) Rather than more strikers what we really need is a decent left sided player. We have needed this for years. Then we can play Vassell in his natural position instead of using him to cover the hole on the left. His pace would give defenders something to worry about instead of the long hopeful ball to Corradi. Also why not give Sturridge a chance. The answer is not to buy more strikers but to get more pace and movement into the midfield. That is what the other teams are doing. ManUre have 3 strikers at the moment, so do Arsenal, so do Chelsea. Why do we need 5 ? But these other teams have dynamic midfielders.

If this lad is moving from France, that usually means that his agent is Willie Mackay- nuff said. I've said it before, and will say it again, if we're after a gamble, why not go for a proven lower-league striker from this country - David Nugent, Billy Sharp, Nathan Tyson, Freddie Eastwood, Lee Trundle? They're not going to cost the earth, won't take time to settle in the area, and will probably be a bit hungrier to succeed. Is the reason they get overlooked because back-handers aren't as easy to hide on domestic transfers?

He is apparently quick, strong, skillful, young, affordable and available but as many have pointed out he is not a prolific scorer. If Corradi is looking for a return to Italy perhaps the money raised could be put towards this fella? If this fella is being lined up as an additional striker it would be a gamble as we need someone to put the ball in the back of the net and adapt to the Premiership quickly.

1 in 4 just the sort of striker we need to add to the squad. I suppose it's better than the 1 in 14 Corradi and Samaras duo. Oh and after watching Samaras at Old Trafford he'd be cleaning boots for me for a long long time...garbage!!!

What sense does it make to buy another striker whose goal ration is less than 1 in 4. We already have enough of that standard of forward at the club.
If he can't score in the French league, why will he step up to the Premiership. We need a proven goalscorer desperately in January. Last January we made the mistake of spending all our money on young potential and we are still waiting for Samaras to produce.

Unless City have a decent FA Cup run our season will end in January.We could the be in a relegation dog fight,our forthcoming game against Sheffield United will be a crucial indication of how we may fair.If we lose this match against a team who do not have one top class player but do have players who will die for the cause,then we could be returning to the Championship.By his own admission Stuart Pearce has said that all new players need a period of time to settle in and adapt.The key to our survival is Micah Richards,if a club like Arsenal show an interest in him,then they have strikers that would be useful to us Babayaro for example is better than anything we have.If we could get money and Babayaro that would be a good deal.Please Stuart no more foreign has duck eggs!

I am completely underwhelmed by this. Look nearer to home City: If Charlton are still struggling come Jan then why not make a bid for Bent? Billy Sharp is banging them in in the lower leagues and is worth a closer look.

We should be looking at signing this kid from MK Dons Izzie Mcleod or Freddie Eastwood (If not to expensive), also David Dunne is out of contract in the summer. If we are going to sign any forigeners in January then it has got to be Oliver Thomert. This guy was desperate to sign for us in the Summer and he really is a class act.

I think the reallity is that we are going to have to take a gamble on a striker. I say why not gamble on Sturridge (once match fit), failing that I would look at Amr Zaki the Egyptian we were previously linked with. His goal scoring record is much better than this Morrocan bloke, he had a great African Nations tournament and is only 23, rumours suggest we would get him for ¿¿1M - ¿¿1.5M. Thing is Blackburn and Feynoord are sniffing round him so price could go up if we do not quick to make a move.
