City Res 2 Sheffield Utd Res 1

A YOUNG City reserve side produced an excellent second-half display to overcome an experienced Sheffield United Second XI 2-1 at Sport City last night.

Despite the visitor's dominating possession in the first-half, two goals in as many minutes early in the second period saw the match turn in City's favour.

Substitute Paul Marshall equalised just seven minutes after the break, cancelling out Chris Lucketti's 14th minute header.

Marshall, who replaced Marc Laird at half-time, struck a fierce shot from 20 yards which flew by Paul Gerrard to level the game.

Then City took the lead when Kelvin Etuhu took advantage of a lack of concentration by David Unsworth.

However, it was the Blades, fielding a side full of first-team experience, who went into the break ahead.

Nick Montgomery's cross was met at the far post by Lucketti, who managed to squeeze a fierce header between City keeper Kaspar Schmeichel and defender Ashley Williams.

After the strikes by Marshall and Etuhu, City came close again through a Ched Evans header, while defender Matthew Mills ensured victory for the home side with a superb goal- line clearance on 77 minutes.

CITY RESERVES: Schmeichel, Williams, Williamson, D'Laryea, Mills, Johnson, Etuhu (Clayton, 89), Laird (Marshall, 46), Evans, Grimes, Moore. Subs (not used): Matthewson, Mee, McDermott.

Who are the brightest City prospects at the moment? Have your say.

ha ha ha ha a bit of a difference this match from Uniteds CHAMPIONS LEAGUE game mmmmmmm. Now come on you BITTERS most of the City writers will be I expect no older than 40 yrs of age therefore I can safely comment that at least YES at least 90% of you have never witnessed City winning a trophy or winning a league game at Old Trafford against United. In essence youv'e all been reared on failure, really you should be acclamatised to that senario and more than likely you may never see the two unlikely events ha ha ha ha. Last night United shown the rest of Europe they are getting better, they are maturing and that CL trophy looks a possibility for United to win. Regarding their so called debt of ¿¿600/700M well when the Glazer family achieve their aim of winning TV rights and that by the way is a long time hidden agenda the debt will disappear within four years and during that time we will STILL be winning trophies and wiping the floor with City. Only recently I heard your debt is now ¿¿60M but you have no prospective investors they either are not interested or they are not being invited by your gravy train management ha ha ha ha ha YOU ARE SO SMALL NOW ITS GREAT.As a final comment can I say that your present manager/board are worse than you had at any time in place during the Swales regime.GET REAL FACE THE FACTS ACCEPT IT REALISE MUFC ARE THE BIGGEST CLUB IN THE WORLD AND WILL CONTINUE TO WIN MAJOR TROPHIES OTHERWISE YOU'LL END UP EVEN MORE BITTER, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

The obvious one is Daniel Sturridge but where is he? He hasn't featured for the reserves since August. Best youngster at the club at the moment spends all his time sitting on the first team bench! yes Stephen Ireland. Miller isn't good enough, neither is Mathew Mills. Johnson, Williams and Williamson are ones for the future.

A classic game of 2 halves,Kasper has inherited his dads brilliance between the posts. The future keeper situation looks good. Kelvin etuhu is comming on a treat. OI fred the red you deluded fool, stay on your own page.

What an amazing turnaround from fred the "happy" red !!!!!!!! Not so long ago it was Glazer out - now their the saviours of Manyoo !!! What a bunch of narrow minded hypocrites you lot really are - I expect you were one of the "loyal" fans building barricades ouside old trafford a few months ago now your worshipping Malcolm Glazer nearly as much as we do !! Your not a football club any more your a franchise and like Mcdonalds your full of annoying little chavs with no idea why they are there . Best thing you can do is keep you opinions to your own pages - celebrate your glorious win over the 2nd best team in Denmark with people who might actually care what a cretin like you thinks -

I think if we ignore Fred he might go away and play with his Playstation instead. Salford? - Torquay more like.

Biggest Club In The World? If anybody at Real Madrid heard that they'd spit their brew out.

Bigger ground, more fans, more success, you're also their feeder club.

After reading the comments of Fred the Happy Red I readily admit there is much truth in what he says. However he is and I suppose always will be one of life's sader individuals!Rather be dead than Fred!

I keep reading people's comments about bringing Sturridge in the first team. Being in Finland I obviously haven't seen him play but all I hear is that he's got something for the future. It wouldn't hurt giving him a crack at it with the first team since currently it ain't doing the trick.

Is this moderated? If so can Fred the Muppet be banned from posting his tripe?

I am all for a bit of witty banter but his drivel is just pathetic. Please ban him.

Fred the Red

There are lots of places you can go to get help Fred. In the meantime try to think about climate change or the looming energy crisis. This may help you realise that footy is just a sport - a bit of fun. It doesnt really matter to us if the soccer ball franchise from the liddle old us of a wins every trophy for the next hundred years we would never stop supporting the Blues because we love them so much !

Maybe Sturridge might make an appearance against Wigan on Saturday?

Hasn't that acid worn off yet Fred?

Dave, Rochdale, all you City muppets still say that Real Madrid are one of biggest clubs in the world and what have they won in last 3 years? Nothing! So that puts Man Utd in their league doesnt it! And your not even in Leicester City's league as they have won more than city in last 20 odd years so stop being jealous and realise that City arnt a big team. End of Debate!

Taylor, I for one will not dispute utd are a huge club. The point is that you think you are the biggest based on the amount of fans you have....which doesnt really cut it..with me anyway. You are nowhere near the most succesful...but still you lot bang on and on and on. A decade of domestic dominance is now well and truly over. you are playing 2nd fiddle these days and lets face it when you play any of the "current" big and succesful clubs i suspect the difference will be there for all to see. now dont get all upset because you know its true. I'm looking forward to the derby this year as we will be up for it like no other time before.xxx

It's a little bit off topic, but here's a little story that I'm sure a lot of you blues out there can relate to..last week I was on a little shindig with three of my mates(all blues) in Turkey...two of us were wearing City shirts(not a pretty sight)and we stumbled across the first bar...a couple of cold ones later, along wanders a guy in a Newcastle shirt, who promptly joins us and engages in a lively debate about Paul Robinson etc...within an hour,we have a motley collection of fans from across the country exchanging well-oiled banter when suddenly,IT HAPPENS.....you know that feeling, the first RAG shirt you clap eyes on on holiday..a mixture of dread and rage that you can't quite explain...well needless to say, this guy didn't let us down-all he needed was a pot of jellied eels and a washboard....much mirth from the Geordie, who now worse for wear launched into our new friend about his "loyalties"and the best he could offer was "yeah, but we play the best football......."The point I'm making is that no matter how bad City are,or how good the rags' are we can go anywhere and have a LAUGH and be appreciated by supporters of other clubs...TAKE NOTE FRED!!I wish you'd met that Geordie,or perhaps you did?

Iconic players make iconic clubs, City in last 10 years have had Kinkladze and thats it! And he was overated as hes done nowt since he left, Rosler, Gaudino etc are nobodys so dont reply stating them! Weve had loads and still do! Even if we dont win trophys we still have legendary players at our Club! Samaras, Corradi, Barton, Sinclair, Mills, Thatcher, Goater, Cooke, Dickov, Immel, Grodendijk etc it makes me Laugh!

I agree, Real Madrid has been nothing but a big joke since they sacked Del Bosque. How many times have they changed managers during that time, 5 times? It takes a fool to join them. Big money though, that's why Nistelrooy went. Besides, Madrid is a perfect example of why it's not wise to change managers on top of the hat after you lose a few games. Pearce ought to be given at least until the end of this season to make a difference. Changing managers right now wouldn't do it. And I don't see anyone coming in the first place.

Fred the clown, do the doctors at the nuthouse know you have escaped or are they allowing the use of computers in there now?....united a major force and wipe the floor with city, your lot wouldn't win the league if they were the only team in it, and couldn't wipe the floor with a mop!.

I will say Sturridge, Logan, Johnson and Etuhu are the ones who I expect to come through, not sure on any of the others as yet.

I've never understood the MUEN comments from City fans and have always found the paper to be fair. However a couple of times - very childishly - i have tried to respond to freds drivel by having a comment or two printed on the united page - none of them as remotely nonsentical as freds and never has 1 been printed. MUEN ??? perhaps.
