Mills: I want first-team football

DANNY Mills has revealed he joined Coca-Cola Championship strugglers Hull on a two-month loan after being told by Stuart Pearce he has no future at Manchester City.

The former England international has fallen out of favour at Eastlands, making just one 10-minute substitute appearance this season.

Mills, whose right-back slot has been taken by City youngster Micah Richards, admitted the opportunity to play regular first-team football again was motivation enough to join the Championship's bottom club.

The 29-year-old should make his debut during the visit of Sheffield Wednesday, and said: "I was told fairly categorically that I wasn't going to play at Manchester City.

"I'm no different to any other player. I want to play regular first-team football and I'm very grateful to Hull for giving me that opportunity.

Exciting

"I'm coming here for two months to start with, and if things go well that could be extended by another month, which I will be more than happy with.

"I've played in the Championship before with Norwich so playing in this league is not an issue in the slightest. I see it as a very exciting challenge and something I'm looking forward to."

It is believed Hull with pay an unknown proportion of Mills' é30,000-a-week wages during the loan period.

The key to the deal being agreed stemmed from Mills' relationship with Tigers chairman and former Leeds director Adam Pearson.

"I know Adam from my time at Leeds and obviously I know him outside of football as well," explained Mills.

"Really, the move was down to him and his persistence, and obviously also because of the manager, Phil Parkinson."

Well it would appear that SP has made his position very clear. I personally think that Mills would be a good squad player albeit a well paid one. In my humble opinion I think Mills has more to offer than Sun, Reyna and Thatcher.

on champ manager he should have a 2 for "positioning"

We don't need him at 30k a week.

Other players with questionable use: Reyna, Dickov, Sinclair, Jordan. Corradi has looked shocking so far, hopefully he will improve.

If Mills wanted first team football that much he would have moved ages ago as clubs would have come in for him Fact is he didn't want to reduce his massive inflated wage. Now he goes on loan, but I reckon City are still paying 20k of his weekly wage.

His wages sticks in the gut, but still glad to see him go. Got Richards and Trabelsi so no loss Getting him on a 5 year deal was one of Keegans many disasters in the transfer market

Stuart Pearce has got rid of a lot of deadwood, he is gradually
getting his team of players together on a shoe string budget, I might not always agree with S P, but there is no question that I support him as the CITY manager/Coach 100%
Come on you BLUES!

The way some people talk on here, get rid of this , get rid of him..... there will be no one left!!
Mills is a good squad player on big wages, but you dont get rid of someone like him and not replace him.... We now have as weaker squad of players as i can remember, even smaller than last season, and Mac intosh seems to have been allowed to do what he likes with the trimming of the playing staff at the club, this policy wil only end in one thing Relegation!!

Danny, you can play in my son's U12 team, they are good
so expect solid competition for
your place. Can't believe you
were ever on a world cup team.
If my son's 11 year old mate beats you to a starting spot you can always fall back on Hull.

what exactly has jordan done to deserve the criticism he gets on these pages? you've listed players of questionable use. you included jordan, but not thatcher? i know jordans not "quality", but he is certainly steady (and cheap). he's not had a bad game this season in my opinion. also an academy product, so let's get off his back.

totally agree with ollie lltj.
Mills is passed his sellby date but lets face it Reyna is complete pants and corradi looks awful so far but may come good.
i fear for us now, unless we start scoring but i cant see who is going to score.

Agree with Ollie - the truth is both Thatcher and Mills tightened up our defence when they came and replaced Sun (who has no idea of either positioning or how to tackle) and Tarnat who, apart from having a good shot, was past his sell by date.

Pearce has no future at Man City either!

"It is a big move for us, but.........we have to invest in order to hopefully move away from the wrong end of the table." Is this Wardle talking? Has he finally woken up and smelt what is definitely not coffee? No, its the chairman of Hull City talking about Danny Mills. WARDLE OUT.

Well said Cryuff. Mills on a five-year deal was the worst of Keegan's crackpot transfer-market deals. But why the board sanctioned such a deal, when Keegan, Tony Blair-like, had already announced he wasn't going to serve past his contract, is the real issue here, I'm afraid. And if LLTJ thibk Corradi is useless, can I suggest he makes a swft appoint with Specsavers? You're talking rubbish, LLTJ.

I'm with you on this one Ollie - Do we really have that strong a squad to able to offload players. I'm no great fan of Mills but he could cover RB and CB so pretty flexible if injuries hit hard .... and it also sends a clear message = we are potless and need to get every last penny off the wage bill.

My thoughts exactly, Ollie. I know Mills had some shockers (who hasn't at City?) but is not a bad squad player to have and he was playing well for us this time last year before his leg break. No doubt we'll still be picking up the majority of his wages as we seem unable to negotiate any deal in our favour. I also think the situation has been handled a bit shoddily. Whatever anyone thinks of Mills, as a professional and an employee of the Club surely he deserves a certain degree of respect, especially when you compare it to the JB sagas. Oh well, let's move on to the next story that reflects poorly on the Club.

Fair play to Mills. Open and honest and of course he wants to play football. It's not his fault he gets paid so much. If someone offered you three times your salary to carry on doing the same job, you be an idiot not to take it.
The question is whether the squad is strong enough to let him out on loan. I'd be more inclined to loan out Nedum myself who is a future prospect rather than Danny Mills who certainly isn't going to improve. This just looks like they're sticking him in the shop window for january to me. If he's playing regularly and well enough, there'll be more interest and his price will go up. Probably a good gamble for City considering the cover in his position. Just a shame that cover isn't experienced.

I find it hard to believe that posts on here want Mills to be a part of our squad. Firstly the player would not be happy as he seems to think hes good enough to be first pick secondly and most importantly hes bobbins. Think about how many times he gives the ball away by aimlessly punting it forward. Get rid we dont need him. On Samaras I thought he caused more of a threat when he made his brief appearance v Reading I will be amazed if SP doesnt start with the kid next. But then again SP does seem to have the strangest ideas about how and when to play his forwards. We all need to get off his back though (me inc) until 10 games have gone, then actions will have to be taken if there is no improvement.
