Ishmael Miller, who has an impressive scoring record at youth and reserve level, drilled home Joey Barton's precision cross to give the Blues a six-minute lead.
And the 19-year-old almost set up another for Antoine Sibierski but the Frenchman's touch was blocked by keeper Mike Ingham, who also denied Darius Vassell soon after.
Of the new boys Ousmane Dabo looked neat in possession while keeper Joe Hart managed to get a hand to Chris Llewellyn's powerful shot but was unable to prevent Wrexham's first equaliser in the 36th minute.
Pearce replaced the entire City team at half-time apart from Hart, allowing Didi Hamann and Paul Dickov a chance to make their Blue bows.
Samaras
But it was Greek striker Georgios Samaras, who put the Blues back on top with a shot that took a wicked deflection off Ryan Valentine and looped over keeper Ingham.
Wrexham responded again with a cracking finish by Matty Dunne, whose half volley found the corner of Hart's net. Samaras added his second in the 64th minute, cutting in from the left and curling his right foot shot into the bottom corner from 22 yards out.
That looked to have settled matters until Sylvain Distin, stretching to cut out a Valentine cross, only managed to direct the ball into his own net.

no injuries,a good fitness exercise and a cracking goal from samaras, but where was nedum and cole?
Which Mills is which? Given that you've got two players called Mills playing for the same side, couldn't you add an initial please MEN.
In a meaningless runout, there were +ves & -ves and some things that don??TMt change, like the quality of Mills & Thatcher, both made to look inadequate at Wrexham??TMs level. Dabo looked strong, Hamman class, Flood at full back ??" beats Mills! Movement in 2nd half was good with Ireland, Hamman, Laird and Dickov linking very well and Croft working his nuts off but this wasn??TMt the premiership. One to watch ??" Laird, looked good. And Wrexham??TMs little right winger who absolutely skinned Thatcher, often.
Samaras goal worth the tenner, just like watching Argentine. 20 passes and wallop!
Are Distin's wages reduced if he makes mistakes like scoring own goals.
I saw some clips on Sky last night. All I can say is how utterly dismayed I am that we are playing in blue shorts. It's a disgrace that some numbn*ts 23yr old marketing gimps can just change our kit as they please. The club should never have allowed this to happen. We look like coventry. Mind you, I'd rather our away kit was green and chocolate than that black rubbish.
Who knows, with performances like that you might be playing them more regularly in a season or two, ha ha.
WANDERERS!!
That Wrexham team were excellent last night. Worth a ??10 punt on promotion methinks
seems like miller maybe worth a chance in the team, some people have been saying it for a while
Where was Andy cole!!! I thought he was fit!!!
Where were Nedum and young Sturridge?
Concerned that we conceded 3 goals. On the plus side, when were City last in a position to change the whole team at half time? We must have more numbers than we used to....
Didn't see any answer to the LEFT sided problem or the creative role , Looks like Barton will play right wing this season , must say Hamman & samaras looked a cut above the rest.
I know that it is the first pre-season friendly and we shouldn't expect too much but isn't it a bit worrying that we conceded three goals to a League Two side? By the way I hope Samaras continues in this form, I am one of his fans and think this guy has a great future at our club.
Good to see Samaras on scoring form I think if we can keep him fit he will have a great season. Come on the blues.
Fact:
1. club have paid out exc corradi deal 6ook for five players!
2.Pearce has no money to spend -spells relegation but what money he has he is squandering and putting the club in deeper debt. Not buying at all is better than buying bad players.!
3. corradi deal another over
thirty player on a three year deal and we're paying 2m + paying his wages when he's 33 years old.-financial and football disaster.
4.Four forwards incl sinclair well over the age of 30
Didn't even play our best up and coming player in Sturridge against wrexham . He won't even get a game this season for all the old dead wood in front of him. Sorry to be a realist and I said realist and yes I have loved City all my life.
spells financial disaster.
As I type this, there are no postings on this article as yet. So...Ed, I bet if you were to leave out the comments that go something along the lines "...huh, and Distin's holding out on signing a new 35,000 a-week contract. GET RID!", you'd have about 3 postings left to play with. As far as commenting on what I've seen of the game, Samaras's 2nd goal was pretty impressive, as too was Ishmael's. Shame we conceded 3 goals, but that's pre-season friendlies for you. Looking forward to Rochdale on Saturday. City! City! City...
Typical City....is everyone looking forward to the start of the season, now?
"until Sylvain Distin, stretching to cut out a Valentine cross, only managed to direct the ball into his own net."
Call me cynical, but, can anyone who went to Wrexham last night tell me if Distin's latest blunder was due to him over-stretching with his wrong foot for a ball that was never going to be his in the first place ? I would expect that it was - just another example of why 35 grand per week is way too much for the error prone Frenchman. Sell Distin to the highest bidder ASAP please.
Martin Warrington, wot r u on about? This article is about last nights game and not purchases? So stop moaning please, if you don't like it - Do one! and pie in the blinkin sky, you're a blinkin ray of sunshine as well aren't you? I'm sick of so called fans like you two moaning with no constructive critisism!
GO AWAY!!!
Get Distin and Barton out, SD is not that gd, hence why none of the better sides are interested - read likewise for JB- they can only be bad for team morale.
apparently willo was excellent at RB last night good tackling and excellent distribution
curiosity took me to the game last night. WE WERE AWFUL not a single player impressed me Disin was pathetic, Dunne looked very vunerable and overall it didn't give me any optimism.sorry but its going to one mighty struggle this season and YES ANOTHER MISREABLE ONE TO GO WITH IT.SP LOOKED A BIT CLUELESS ON THE LINE !!!!!! body language told every city fan that!!!!!
Simon Johnson, chill out mate, it is a blinking pre season game, nothing matters in them games apart from getting fit, performance, result, and entertainment are all irrelevant, we had 4 new players in the team, even though Dickov had played for City before that was some 4-5 years back and the team as a whole have changed since then....carry on like that blasting them after 1 game that quite frankly nobody gave 2 hoots about, you will end up with a thrombosis.
Yeah Simon Johnson, did yer really go? Naa, thought not. And Martin Warrington, slight whiff of rag methinks. Better luck next time mate. Back to things blue, anybody know who captained the side last night? Simon you went, you must know.
Come on guys, it's a pre season friendly, it's more like a kick around, fresh season match, to get everyone stretching their legs after drinking too much sangria over the summer. The last 3 seasons we have played big Spanish and Italian clubs pre season and spanked them, but that didn't give any indication of what sort of season we are going to have. SP put out 2 teams to see who's fit and who's looking in form, remember he has to pick 1 full first team at the beginning of the season, and he will probably start piecing his preferred team together as the pre-season continues, everyone has a chance to shine, or other than that, he gets to pick the best of a bad bunch. Pre season, noone wants to pickup an injury, don't put too much thought into the results, at least we are hitting the back of the net. Also, we need strikers, we had a bad run of it towards the end of last season and I think he is doing right to pack the midfield and strike force, to keep his options open. Considering how skint we are, I think he is doing alright, I am not expecting an amazing season, but I think we might manage mid table. The defence might need to be tougher, this season, but if the midfield can add a bit of grit this year, and Onuha gets back on track, I reckon me will manage.
