Kasper making his presence felt

KASPER Schmeichel has been given a glowing report following his heroics in Bury's seemingly successful fight to stay in the Football League.

The 19-year-old goalkeeper has been with the Gigg Lane outfit since late February and has been singled out as one of the reasons the Shakers have climbed the table. Schmeichel has kept clean sheets in half his games and will stay on next weekend to see the season out.

"Credit to Kasper, because he has done exactly what we wanted from him, as well as what Bury wanted, so it has worked very well for both of us," said Blues boss Stuart Pearce.

Meanwhile, things are looking just as promising way down the line after the Blues' Under-13 team swept to victory in an international tournament in Greece in which they shared topped billing with Olympiakos.

Coached by Steven Eyre, with Pete Lowe, Dave Noble and Stuart Millward in support, the youngsters won without conceding a single goal. It was the ninth European trophy collected since the Academy came into being in 1998. They beat Sheffield United 3-0 in the final.

Do you expect to see Kasper Schmeichel in a first-team shirt at City? Have your say.

Not sure to be honest would like to think so but he would be well behind James and Weaver so i think it would be the best thing is to allow him on a season long loan so he can gain games under his belt then come back fighting for the number 1 shirt

Would like to see him sent on a season long loan. I like the current policy of sending youngsters out on loan to gain experience, very far sighted so unusual for city :) BWP would benefit from this next season and if we can get enough strikers in during the summer. I think a year in the lower divisions will toughen him and sharpen him and do him plenty of favours.

Keepers tend to mature later than outfield so I'd guess we are looking ata couple of years down the line before he's ready to compete for a first-team place in the Prem.

I know a couple of Bury fans and they say KS has done pretty well form them of late. I agree, get him out on a season loan and with a view to competing for a first team shirt in 07/08 season. Hopefully with the likes of Onouha, Richards, Jordan, Ireland, BWP and Sturridge!1

If he's any good, we'll sell him for peanuts and he'll knock us out of the cup. Sorry, end of the season, pessimism, etc.
