Rumour mill: City in Lopez link

CITY could be set to move for Barcelona striker Maxi Lopez, according to reports.

The Argentine striker has been linked with a move to the Premiership after failing to break into the first team at the Nou Camp.

The 21-year-old moved to Barca last season for £8m, but with a roster of attackers that includes Samuel Eto'o, Ronaldinho and Henrik Larsson, the youngster has barely featured.

He is reportedly keen to move to secure first team football ahead of the World Cup - and the Daily Mail claims City will open talks with the player this week.

Lopez would be a quality signing for us and would add much needed creativity and flair! also think we should go for Romeo Castelen, very similar to SWP and only 21, so has time to develop more! come on city some quality signings in jan please!!CTiD

CITY needs to strengthen the squad
and a striker.
King Cole and Darius Vassell are playing well together, but CITY were lost when Cole was injured.
Maxi Lopex wants to leave Barca to get regular first team football, how will he get it if Vassell and Cole continue to play well together?.
The games versus Fulham and Liverpool the whole team played bad not just Cole and Vassell.
If only the team could play every game as against Charlton, but Charlton did play bad that day and helped CITY look great.

Its difficult to comment on this rumour having not seen much of him playing. The only game I can recall seeing him in was the CL game against Chelsea last season, when he came on as a sub and scored a good goal,and caused the Chelsea defence lots of problems. But if Barcelona were willing to pay B#8 million for him he must have some talent. If there is any truth in the rumour then my full faith is in SP to get the best out of him,and help us cement a place in Europe.

From what I have seen of him, he is a big strong lad, who will bring a different dimension to our frontline. I think it would be a good signing on loan, and would be great cover for Cole and Vassell. He will get plenty of games too, because Cole will probably miss one in 5 games due to his age, and Vassell will also miss the odd game when SP decides he'd rather have a big man upfront. Go get him Stu!

He looks like girl. And, Blue Tiger, it wasnt a case of City playing badly against Liverpool it was purely a case of being up against a side who are too strong for you.

I have to question why Barca would pay 8 million for a 21 year old and then let him go to City? It also makes me wonder why we aren't competing with the so called "big clubs" to sign him. Hmmm! I smell something fishy....

Perhaps Barca bought him on the strength of a video.
If we can get him on loan for rest of season with a view to buy OK.
But if they want 4/6 million I would be cautious.

He's a typical target man, big, powerful & good in the air, doesnt use his strength as much as he could do though, ie a bit too "nice" at times, but that will come, bit like how shearer is now & crespo. All up a good buy I think, not another Vuoso (although that was prob kk not the player)

Really happy about this, its the sort of player that we should be looking at, makes us seem that we mean business.

Just a loandeal, no. It will hold back BWP and we will have RF back (hopefully and fit as well). A loandeal with the first option to buy him if Barca don't want him back, will do.
A straight deal if the money is right and he will bring something different to what we already have. Can't judge him as I haven't seen him play a lot. Looks a big strong foreward that suits the PL more than La Liga. And as he's still young, it could be worth making this a serious target.

I hope this rumour is true! This is kind of quality player we should be linked with (not Dean Ashton or Billy Jones) He's young too! Even if it was only until the end of the season, I reckon he'd make a big impact! I watch a lot of the spanish football when he does play, he looks quality! It's just dificult for him to get in with the likes of Eto & Ronaldinho in the side! But I reckon he'd be a hero at Eastlands!

He did look good in that game, Mat. Not having seen that much of him myself, Maybe we should take him on loan for 6 months and see how he does. There will be times when we don't have all our strikers fir and then he may make his mark. I just hope that we're not saddled with Sibierski again in that role!

Maxi Lopez could be a great sighning for us hes got pace good shooting ability and great technique. From what ive heard hes a gem.

yes go for him if we can, seen him several times all be it on La Liga Sky, strong, pacey, skillful, Kiki, must know something about him, assume he speaks spanish, so could help him settle in. Hard to break-up Cole & Vassel, looked very good at Charlton, could not Darius play wide right? if Trev has slump in form, but he is looking better each game. Loan deal now ans see how it goes. All clubs switch formations to suite the game plan, cannot strick with the same 11 each game not possible or logical.

Word is that KK had the opportunity to buy Lopez when he bought Vuoso, but Lopez would have cost a bit more so KK stuck with Vuoso. He is a decent player and I think Barca would look more to a loan move for him before flogging him (a la saviola and that other argentinian striker they had), so it might be a good deal for all parties. Energetic and tricky, could be a good impact sub or starter if cole is out.

If heB4s in Barcelona, heB4s class. This is exactly the kind of signing that City needs. This kid is fast, good shooting, and has great technique.
