Sound economics suit Pearce

STUART Pearce is adamant City will not become a "boom-and-bust" club on the eve of the transfer window deadline.

The Blues boss has money in the bank from the sale of Shaun Wright-Phillips to Chelsea, but as yet only Andy Cole and Darius Vassell have been brought in for a combined £2million.

He told BBC GMR: "We have a set amount in the kitty to spend on players.

"There is no point on me blowing it all on one player and all of a sudden at Christmas we have got none.

"I want us to achieve results but I don't want this club to be a boom-and-bust club.

"Whenever I need a player, I want the chairman (John Wardle) to say it won't be problem because we we are on a sound financial footing."

How cool is SP! He talks so much sense. He understands the realistic financial restrictions we have, he gets the best out of players, he's actually seems to be improving players, he tries his best to get the crowd going, he puts balls into the team, he never moans or complains and I can't wait for him to get growling at SAF over at the Theatre of Meccano come the 10th...just how red can you make SAF go SP?!?

Well said Stu ... we're struggling to get players because we're still suffering the effects of being a 'boom-and-bust" club under KK. I blame the board then, not Kev (even if he did splash it on rubbish).

By my reckoning, with the sales of Anelka, Macken, Elliott & SWP & others leaving i.E - McPointalot & Bosvelt therefore saving on wages etc all since last Jan we should have approx B#35Mill in bank minus B#2mill for Vassell & Cole leaving approx + B#33mill & thats not including any TV revenue for finishing 8th in league ?. I cant believe we are not even been linked to any quality players yet ?. If the board do not invest in quality players the gate reciepts will continue to fall. We are lacking in some quality & quantity !. Apologies if this sounds doom & gloom but i can assure you i like the way SP is managing but dont feel he is being backed up as much as he should be i.e - another B#10+mill to spend.

However i think Stu has it right... lots to choose from here... and only time and experience wil prove just how good they are... and Stu is the man to get the best out of them... this situation resembles the class of 92 at Glazerville so i am not knocking it!

well said sp its about time the club had someone with some buisness accumen unlike the jokers on the board who have nearly ruined the club financially.while we`re talking sense could we have bernstein back please, the only board member who saw fowler to be a greedy waste of money.

Nice flowery message with the real meaning that we have not, or will be signing anybody today. 6 weeks since SWP was sold and only Vassell on the cheap - now magically in the 4 weeks in January it is intimated that a signing may be made - forgive me if I fail to believe this. Can't wait for the AGM

I notice he says two important things: there is a set amount of money available.
Also he says at the end that when he wants a player he expects the board to have the finances. This is a carefully crafted statement. He is laying down a challenge to the board that he may want players in January.

Stop moaning, you make me ashamed to be a City fan! SP is talking sense! There's not much business going on a present which means there is less quality players available so lets just hang fire until they do instead of buying for buying sake and getting a player that want improve what we currently have!

Yes! Let's just buy somebody, anybody, for as much as we can spend. Then we can all feel really excited for a while and when it doesn't work out, we can get back to slagging SP and the board for wasting the club's money, bringing in expensive no-hopers, not giving the kids a chance etc. Come on City, flash the cash!

Now jenas has gone to Spurs, could we not go in for Brown. surely not expensive and the type of grafter SP would like. Would give us some comp in midfield. Geremi on loan and maybe a striker loan....this would not be wasting the clubs money, but would surely boost a thin squad.

Pearce has been trying and failing to get players all summer. The moneys there, the right players aren't available.
Anyone who thinks the board are seriously witholding all the SWP cash are deluded. Asset stripping is hardly the way to protect your investment. Prudence is, the board probably think they've got the right man along with all the fans. What these muppets are going to spout at the AGM will be an embarrassment to the intelligent City fan.

This is a difficult situation for us fans because we are all happy with our current league position and with our unbeaten run. From what I saw at our most recent performance on Saturday there were a few empty seats in the stadium and is it not a case of 'speculate to accumulate'? I.E. spend on a good creative midfield player and help to entice the missing few thousand back into the ground.
I trust SP to do the right thing for city but it all seems a little bit last minute and lets be honest, who (apart from us with Anelka) would let a good player leave on the last day of a transfer window when they couldn't replace him?
I suppose we have lost some players but others are fit again and are contributing to the team so our squad is not as thin as others may believe.
But.............................

we all like to see city heading the league in all areas and that includes buying players,that said all to often we have bought for buying sake and in doing so nothing improves,and we loose our financial standing.Yes i would love us to be linked with a 5m player here there and everywhere,but SP is being very shrewd and when he does need someone,one he will not be ripped off so niether will city,2 the player in question will realize he is specially wanted by SP as SP doesnt just buy anyone, 3,the board can see SP has above all the clubs finances at heart and when he needs they will then back him, 4,it tells the existing squad that SP believes in them 5 it confirms SP doesnt panic, sometimes its frustrating,but we like most teams cannot buy the title, so we must get value for money as and when needed,if not,we must wait,the squad is thin but we all love a young gun to come through,we are more likley to find another barton
whilst the squad is short, and it gives all the kids more hope that they may make the break into the first team squad.
SP is doing a fantastic job on and off the field,make no mistake about that,yes we might loose to the rags next week,but we probably would if we had owen and malbranque in the side,we wont win the league who ever we buy,we shall finish top ten,and its best to do so having spent as little as possible,and what if we beat united,?? i wont bet against it not with SP at the helm,for once the team is in my view exceeding the fans,usually its always been the team have let our fantastic fans down,but its now changed round,more than extra players SP needs us fans 100% behind him and that is the only flaw in our clubs make up at this moment in time.

The missing few thousand shouldn't need enticing with a new player, where's their loyalty?
Or are they all moaners who are completely disillusioned with 2nd in the Premiership and the best prospects the clubs had for 30 years?

Chris, Davyhulme, l know Brown and believe me, he is only after money, thats all he thinks about. He says Royle gave him the bums rush from City and he would try and take us for all he could get. When he played for us he was on 2k a week and that was to much. Think you ideas on loan deals are good, Geremi owuld be good.
