Blues duo in reserve chance

CITY injury victims Ben Thatcher and Steve McManaman will continue their rehabilitation tonight when they travel with the reserves to Nottingham Forest.

And successful performances by the pair could see them brought into contention for the Blues squad to face Birmingham on Wednesday.

The duo played a full 90 minutes each in last week's 5-0 second string win over Newcastle, and are in the team for the clash at Forest.

Blues boss Stuart Pearce will be taking in the game, and keeping an eye on the performances of Thatcher - who was on the bench against Fulham - and McManaman.

"There are a couple of senior players in the reserves tonight which I will go and watch," Pearce told the club's website.

"Every time a player goes on to the training pitch or represents the club at any level we will have eyes there from the coaching staff.

"I take in everything I see and sometimes you see things on the training pitch which will tell you if a player is ready or not."

City: Kasper Schmeichel, Danny Warrender, Ben Thatcher, Jonathan D'Laryea, Micah Richards, Paul Collins, Lee Croft, Stephen Ireland, Christian Negouai, Karl Bermingham, Steve McManaman

Subs: James Lee Matthews, Kevin Ellegaard, Ian Bennett, Marc Laird, Ishmael Miller

BWP not in the reserves team - does this mean he might start against Birmingham? Presumably Crofts presence in the starting line-up means he won't be playing any part on wednesday.

Why hamper the kids' chances of any success by playing them with these two....neither of them can pass water.

For gods sake SP give the reserves most of your first team squad that played on Saturday...Calamity (yet again costs us points!!), Bosvelt, Kiki and Sib...bring through the REAL TALENT at the club and play them....just THEN you might find yourself in a job come May.

How demoralising. Good forBradley but what about poor Crofty?! How on earth can the MEN discuss the possible inclusion of McMinimum on weds - what a waste of space. C'mon SP, open your eyes and get Croft on the bench for weds (at least). As for thatcher - well, no hard feelings but Jordan's doing just fine.

Well if any else saw Macmanananaman's display tonight then they'd want him out the door now. What a pathetic fall from grace from a one time "star" footballer. It shouldn't be a case of waiting on his decision wether he wants to continue or retire. Just get rid!!

i dont think mcmanaman is the player he once was its not right that he is stopping good young players from coming to the first team e.g croft , if he was fit (mcmanaman) he would get the place in front of him on the bench , what do my fellow man city fans think

I've just read the report on the reserves match last night on the CITY web-site. McManaman at fault for the goal. He's only played two games for them this season and he's managed to mess up their chances of winning the league! Sums his time up at CITY in a nut shell! I would like to see what the likes of Miller and co can do in the 1st team than see the same old from McManaman again! Saw Miller play a few games in the summer and he looked good.

Danny Warrender should be given a first team opportunity. after exceptional displays for the reserves he deserves his chance in the first team.
