Roberto Mancini has set Manchester City a target of winning at least 11 of their remaining 13 matches if they want to win the Premier League title.
City returned to the top of the table with a 1-0 victory at Aston Villa, having been knocked off the summit for 24 hours by neighbours United.
Mancini’s team suffered just one defeat in the opening 17 league games, a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea in December.
And while they have maintained a perfect record at home, victory at Villa Park was just their second win in the last six games away from the Etihad Stadium.
But with Yaya and Kolo Toure due back from the Africa Cup of Nations and Mario Balotelli completing his four-game ban, Mancini’s squad has been bolstered ahead of the run-in.
And with a problematic six weeks seemingly behind them, he has now set a target of 11 more victories to clinch a first league title since 1968.
Mancini said: “We know December and January were difficult months.
“We had players injured, suspended or away. All these reasons. But now we are in February and we are still on top. Next week we will have all the players, which is very important for us.
“But to stay on top with Manchester United and Tottenham shows we are very strong.
“We’ve 13 games from now until the end, and we know if we want to win the league we have to win 11 or 12, if possible.”
After a Europa League double-header with Porto either side of a free FA Cup weekend, City face home games against struggling Blackburn and Bolton.
In the final 10 games of the run-in, City play four of the top six, starting with Chelsea’s visit to the Etihad Stadium on March 19.
City travel to the Emirates to play fourth-place Arsenal on April 7 before welcoming United to the Etihad on April 28 before their visit to Newcastle a week later.
Mancini’s men end their campaign with a home game against QPR, a game which will see the return of former manager Mark Hughes.

This one is going to the wire and will depend on the City vs Salford game (number 36). I predict we will go into the game 4 points clear - a win will give us the title on April 28th! A draw will mean a result at Newcastle wins us the title from the Rags ..........ring any bells with anyone?
Spurs will not contest the title but could push them for second particularly if they beat them at home next month.
We have 5 very winnable home games, Bolton, Blackburn, Sunderland, West Brom and QPR and we should be confident of 3 points against Chelski at home. That's 18 points plus whatever we pick up against United. There are winnable away fixtures at Norwich, Wolves, Stoke and Swansea (although its tricky there - they will be safe by then), leaving Easter at the Emirates where we at least draw and the final away at Newcastle who will by then have settled for a Europa league spot.
I therefore predict 33 points from 13 games being 10 wins and 3 draws and a Premier league win by 3 points plus 10 goals difference.
You heard it here first - CTID !!
win 13 and then it wont matter about anybody else
We've got to keep half an eye on Spurs because they have the easiest run in of the top three. I think their last five or six matches are all against bottom half teams which they would expect to win. We simply cannot shake off United so the only way to keep ahead of these two is to carry on winning. Whatever happens, even if we were to end up third, we would have to put this season down as a massive improvement on last and we were pretty damn good then too! Spurs worry me because they came up on the rails to pip us by three points to fourth spot two years ago. They had to play all the top clubs near the end and nobody gave them a prayer but they won the lot! If they were to beat United and Arsenal and we were to slip up we would find ourselves potentially having to win every single game! United, on the other hand, picked up loads of points when they were quite dreadful earlier in the season but the return of Scholes seems to have given them a different dimension and all of a sudden they look the real deal. Hopefully, we will have a return to form over the next few weeks but results like Sunday's when we should have won by two or three are vital for the confidence when we haven't played quite as well as we would have liked. If all three teams maintain their current form, this could well still be a three way battle going in to the last game of the season. So far, it's been the best PL tussle for years and even better that only one of the usual suspects is involved, both Manchester clubs head to head and then the North South divide for the three way split.
United have two really tricky games between now and the end of the season - namely Spurs away and us away. Our tricky away games are Arsenal and Newcastle away. Spurs have a very tricky few weeks coming up, but negotiated a similar list successfully two years ago - they play Arsenal away, United at home, Everton away and Chelsea away in that order with a home gimme against Stoke thrown in but after that it's plain sailing. It could not be closer.
Yes, January was tough, but we beat Liverpool and Spurs and in reality ended their title challenge. We picked up 9 points out of 15, not a dreadful return. So far in February we have 6 out of 6.
FYI United picked up 9 points too, even though they played a game less (the defeat to Blackburn on Dec 31st).
It will continue to be tight and any 'unexpected' setback like us against Everton or manyoo v Blackburn from now on is going to seem crucial. Having Yaya, Kolo and Mario back is a very big change from what we have had in the last few games (Barry must be knackered - at least he got NDJ back in action v Villa). Carlos would be a strong factor in our favour so long as everybody was reasonably happy with it. I am afraid I still remember Rodney Marsh.
Think this is the 'ACID TEST' for CITY. Players like Silva and Balotelli will need to find there legs again, Its going to be 'brown trousers' THATS FOR SURE !!!!!
This is not defeatist talk but don't forget this is NOT Mancini's prefered 25 man squad. I believe next season he will achieve that so lets all keep cool if we fall on the line .
If you picture 8/10 players out with 4/5 Roberto signings coming in whooooooooooo
next season we are going to be a hell of a team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I still expect a City Spurs one two
Looking forward to you leading us to the title Roberto,Ducky and the rest of his red pals will have to make do with second or third.

The one comment that we keep hearing from the drongos on TV is "yoonitid have the experience, they've done it before blah blah blah". Well yes they do but that doesn't mean they will win it. They MIGHT (and then all the drongos wil be wheeled out again) but equally we might wing it. Truth is nobody knows.
easier said than done. forza bobby manc.
forever blue and still smiling.
It’s time to have a rethink about the Tevez situation. I used to think that Tevez was a complete and utter moron. He has, however, done these things in the last few days : claimed that SAF is the best manager he has ever worked with. Claimed that us City fans. were wrong to criticise him after Munich. Claimed that Paul Scholes, Wayne Rooney and Ryan Giggs are among the best professionals he has worked with………
Maybe he’s not so dumb after all ???
With or without tevez, ? if we did!nt win it, and tevez took no part, how many would be saying " we would have won it with tevez. in mancini we trust, lets hope he does the right thing. !
11 wins out of 13 is a tall order for any team but would certainly ensure the title. I still think Mancini's original statement that 90 will win it stands.
9 wins will be enough, providing we beat the Trafford Town Girls. Spurs will destroy them next week.
MuEN i do think you try to read to much in to Manchester City’s fixtures why do you continually talk us down is it your yoonited red glasses that make you do it?
i thought the new year was going to be different, in your attitude to us as fans and the club that is MANCHESTER CITY and that is the club that is TOP OF THE LEAGUE! not that you have noticed and your team is two points behind us with some very difficult fixtures coming up, or do you think different can we have some comments please on this subject ?

JUST ASKING THE QUESTION AGAIN
Having players back is going to help us greatly (especially Yaya). Be afraid Trafford Berties. Be very afraid.
with YAYA back driving the midfield i expect us to go on and really win this title
my only concern is the referees who will do their utmost totry and stop us winning it and will give any decisions to the rags
we know we have to beat the rags and their refs if we are to win this league
when this season has ended if we (city) manchester,s only true club has won the prem (the 1st of many ) and by winning all remining games the points total will in the region of 99 ish not really bothered about any other team now as this season has been a total joy more at times than not
I think Big Joe will have it wrapped up for us by the time we thump the Rags at our place. The fixture list is set up perfectly for us to be presented with the trophy at the home game against QPR in front of hapless Hughes - his face will be a picture! Come on yooooo Blues!!!
With our luck, we will probably win all 13 games, then get docked points for our shocking disciplinary record!
United's player of the season, Howard Webb, will no doubt be placed in charge of all the games during our run-in, too...
I could not raise a cheer for Carlos - sorry.
