Roberto Mancini cool over Manchester City's away day woes

Roberto Mancini
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has played down concerns about his team's away form ahead of Sunday's game at Aston Villa.

The Barclays Premier League leaders will look to arrest a disappointing sequence of results away from the Etihad Stadium with victory at Villa Park this weekend, having won just one of their last six away games.

However, Mancini is adamant the problem is only short-term.

"We knew it was impossible to score three goals in every away game," he said. "Sometimes you can lose these games.

"But we didn't deserve to lose any of these games. At Sunderland we had 70% possession and lost to an offside goal in injury time.

"At Everton we had 70% of the ball and had all the shots. At Chelsea it was the same."

City will be coming up against three old boys in Richard Dunne, Stephen Ireland and Shay Given - the last two of whom Mancini was responsible for selling.
The Blues boss was anxious not to make a big thing of that, though.

"This is Manchester City against Aston Villa, not Dunne, Ireland and Given," said Mancini, who confirmed Yaya and Kolo Toure will return to the club immediately after Sunday's African Nations Cup final, when Ivory Coast take on Zambia.

How would you set up the City team to face Villa? Have your say.

Watch out for Robbie Keane - I think he's scored against us for almost every team he has played for - Wolves, Coventry, Leeds, Liverpool, and Spurs? He and the City old boys will be looking forward to it. Mind you a Richard Dunne double of an own goal and a sending off would be welcome!

He as got to say that, he must take any pressure of the team and have them relaxed, but deep down he will be concerned about our away results. also he knows we are much better than our away results of late.

All that matters is three points, I don't care at this stage of the season how we get the points.

Prediction 1-3 City.

I'm looking forwards to City giving the fans a good game. 0_2 to City.

The Dunney monster owes us a few own goals!

Yaya, you be very welcome home next week.

Yaya and Kolo will be very welcome back - we need them both, even though Yaya is more influential. I am surprised that, in order to grind out results in January-February we haven't seen more of NDJ. Has he suffered complete loss of form?

We could be one point behind United or 5 points ahead of them by Sunday night. A very important weekend, hopefully the team will be all fired up, fully concentrating and with Kompany fit. A win here is very important given our recent away form. I think we'll get the chances to score but so will Villa, so we need to be clinical with the finishing.

Only if this so-called away form "problem" continues will we be denied from lifting the Premiership. Just hope we can get back to something like the early part of the season away from home
The home form is solid, very solid, and not looking like being any trouble. Hope we can win at Villa, and then getting Ya Ya back will be a massive boost. The next six games or so can potentially dictate the eventual outcome of this Premiership in our favour if the side is totally focussed, and dertermined, ..................so, how bad do you want this boys????,.........................right, now go and grab it with both hands.

I would like to see us on the counter attack with the same pace as before December.
Defences are scared stiff when we have a go, but lately its such a slow build up and too
predictable away.
Johnson looked up for it last week so hope he is given another game !

We still have the second best away record in the league, what is the problem?.

Report This Reply

Let's not all pander to the media stereotypes currently circulating about our club and follow their agenda, which is to see us throw away our chance to win the league.

Firstly, we have the second best away record in the division whilst at the same time scoring more goals away than any other team. FACT!!

Second, we are NOT a club in crisis - win at Villa today and we will be back on top again (FACT!) with a far easier run-in than our nearest rivals Trafford Rangers. (INTELLIGENT OPINION BASED ON FACT!)

Thirdly, Carlos Tevez may need to play for us again in some capacity so that he can't walk away from us for free because of not having been selected for the required percentage of games. This may lead to some kind of bizarre first where we have to 'bring him on' as a substitute for the last few minutes of a game we've already won, even if he's not there in person. I hope this doesn't happen, and would welcome some knowledgeable response to this, but what is certain is that unlike what many of the papers are saying Mancini is NOT 'giving in' on Tevez, but is trying to do the best for City by getting the most money for him seeing as CT currently lives in a delusional world where everything is everyone else's fault.

Finally, it is incumbent upon all true City supporters to get behind the manager, the team and each other whilst we get through this period of being constantly baited and picked upon by the media. It is the one aspect of our current situation that I don't like - being hated by the masses out there, but a friend who is a Chelsea fan warned me that this would happen and we just have to stick it out. At least we have owners who aren't as trigger-happy with their managers as Abramovich!!

Keep the faith! Forza Mancini! CTID!!
