Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko are starting to click – and that spells trouble for the rest of the Premier League.
Goalkeeper Joe Hart was a frozen spectator as the little Argentine and the big Bosnian grabbed a goal apiece in the 3-0 win over Fulham.
But he was warmed by the sight of Aguero and Dzeko both netting, amazingly the first time they have done so in the same match since the 6-1 win at United in October.
Some critics feel that the pair area mismatch, in much the same way that Dzeko found it difficult to strike up an understanding with Carlos Tevez last season.
Hart feels the pair are starting to gel – and has warned Premier League defences they have only seen a glimpse of Aguero’s true potential.
Aguero’s penalty strike was his 18th goal of the season, a remarkable tally in his debut season, especially for a 23-year-old moving from the languid pace of Spanish football to the hectic blur of England.
Dzeko is hot on his heels in the goalscoring stakes with 16, and his goal was laid on a plate for him by Aguero’s run and pass.
Hart believes the two strikers are now getting an understanding, saying: “It’s starting to develop. It’s tough to develop really good partnerships in our side because it chops and changes but that’s not a bad thing because with the ability we’ve got anyone can play with anyone.
“But if you’re talking about a real partnership, like the old-school ones where you’d stick your two centre forwards together, it was a lot easier playing a run of games together.”
Aguero is now chasing Robin van Persie in the race for the Premier League golden boot, although the Arsenal man’s hat trick at the weekend puts him clear with 22 goals to Aguero’s 15.
Hart says this time next season he feels Aguero will be the one in the clear, saying: “I think he’s done great and he can do better – he knows he can do better. He takes his chances well and when he starts taking all his chances he’ll be winning the goalscoring charts by January.
“He’s helped us out in important games so that’s good. I definitely think he can get better, and I think he knows that.
“I’m not knocking Sergio, I think he’s awesome and one of the best players in the Premier League. But I do really think he’s got a lot more to offer and he’ll be awesome for Man City when that happens.
“He’s settled in and it’s just my personal opinion. He’s younger than me and that shocks me when I hear that.
“I’m being honest, I hope Sergio wants to do better and that’s going to push City on if he does that.”

I agree with Joe in one aspect, that Sergio hasn't yet shown his true full potential. When he arrived he was fully match fit still from the Copa America which he played in the summer. Of late I think he has looked a touch heavy legged and has been lacking that initial burst of explosive pace that creates him a lot of the space to fire off a shot past a defender.
With the bigger gap before the Fulham game I think there were signs that he looked a touch fresher.
I don't agree that Dzeko and Aguero make a partnership. A couple of times in recent games we have seen Dzeko get in the way of Aguero in goalscoring positions and I think they both look to occupy similar areas inside the box.
Solid win at the weekend tho and good to see Sergio set up a sitter for Dzeko in the second half.
Good luck to them both. Whenever Dzeko plays after a rest he looks like a donkey on the field and it can be painful to watch. He plays better the more he plays and I hope his good run continues.
Dzeko is very frustrating to watch. A bumbling genius.
Being honest I too have often been struck by the lack of misunderstanding between these two players. Sometimes they've looked downright baffled at one another. Saturday was a different story however, with them finally showing that awareness of each other that forms the basis of a good attacking partnership. I'm backing Joe on this one!
Not a bad return 34 goals in an 18-16 ratio. It's hard to win the title but harder still to retain it, and next season following summer investment I believe we will have a squad that will dominate and take us to undreamed of levels - not that we're all that short now.
There's also the inference that gives a boot up up the backside to all the moaners who would like to see Dzeko depart along with Lescott, Kolarov and the manager as well. Mancini knows far more than the muppets and long may it remain so. Top of the league, two points clear with the meanest defence and the top attack, despite injuries suspensions and overseas comittments. It really does beg the question of what some people want. Dzeko Lescott and Kolarov will stay and I for one am pleased about that. As for Roberto, may he stay with us for years and bring the glory days with him.
Neither Aguerro or Dzeko or even Balotelli have shown anything like top form consistently so far but have all shown brilliance in patches. If Aguerro could hit top form every week and Dzeko start finding the net rather than the seats behind the goal, we will recapture the goal scoring form of earlier in the season. They could have both had hat tricks on Saturday although three without reply in those conditions is more than acceptable.
The main thing is we got the three points and did not concede which is great for young Savic who has been criticised everywhere but people forget, because he looks a lot older, that he is a mere stripling amongst men and has a lot to learn and a fast learning curve. To move from Montenegro to the PL and in to the first team through necessity not choice is a huge step up in class. We bought him for his potential. I don't think for one minute we had any intention of playing him from the start in any games this season except the occasional cup match but had little choice but to throw him in at the deep end and he is looking far better now than his jittery performance against QPR. One thing I would say is he always looks comfortable on the ball. He clearly needs to be far more aware of his positional sense as he is not the tallest but that will come with experience. Still one for the future.
The good news about Dzeko and Aguerro, as with Silva and Nasri is that on Saturday they were not constantly invading each other's space and getting in each others way. In fact, Dzeko and Aguerro looked like they were striking up some sort of partnership together and a real understanding of each other and their runs. That being the case, you would expect most managers would keep them together as automatic starters even when Mario returns. Knowing Mancini's Italian predilection for changing things around unnecessarily, I would think he will rest Aguerro at the first available opportunity. I hope Dzeko does not suffer the same fate. It is quite clear that the more he plays the better he is and when he is dropped his confidence falls through the floor and he stops scoring. We have the best defence in the league and the best attack. So long as our defence holds, the key to winning this is being able to outscore tricky opposition like Everton without creating many chances. There will be more games like that and we have got to start winning them! Draws will be not so much use whilst United keep picking up points. People criticise the manager and the team for various things but let us be realistic here. There is not a lot more we can do! We have won all our home games. We have only dropped fifteen out of a possible 36 points away which most sides would be delighted with. If United keep picking up points all we can do is match them and wait for them to slip up like they did yesterday. They will be thinking the same!
These are two top quality strikers. Sergio has performed unbelievably well in his first season. I think we knew all about his pace, skill and goalscoring abilites before he arrived and his cameo against Swansea showed what a real gem we'd got. But what we've only just begun to understand because it's waved under our noses every time he sets foot on the pitch is his work rate and total commitment to the team cause. And we haven't seen the best of him yet, I hope!
Edin is what we knew as well. Scores with his head and both feet (not at the same time!), works hard all the time, takes the ball well in difficult positions and opens up the play to bring team mates in and has a first rate attitude (though perhaps not perfect on very bad nights in Munich!). Sometimes his first touch lets him down but nowhere near as often as some would claim but I can't imagine too many PL defenders look forward to playing against him because he's really strong. And 16 goals from a "rotating" striker (!) is some return.
And we've got Super Mario too who complements them both exceptionally well. Variety is the spice of life! So no moaning that we'd better kiss and make up with Tevez.
In my humble opinion, difference was high pressing. First, it did not allow Fulham any chance to slow it down and second, it allowed us to convert to offense without long build up. That brings me to another issue and that is directional attack. Both Silva and Nasri are more east - west midfielders (comparing to Yaya who is south - north). When opposing team parks bus in front of their goal, our fullbacks occupy flanks which brings GB, Milner, Silva, Nasri as well as Dzeko and Kun in very congested area. I think, that is why we have a feeling that attackers are in each other way. On Saturday, we had ball in much wider areas which resulted with more space in the middle, which, as a result, allowed Dzeko and Kun to exchange places without being next to each other.
BTW, conditions were really bad which made 3:0 score even better.
I really think Aguero is a great player, but has not shown his full potential yet, i think better is to come from him, he has settled in really well for his 1st season, and Dzeko
can play really well, but for some reason i always feel nervous when he gets the ball, a brilliant couple of goals by him heading them in and the goal on saturday was great, but he seems really slow on his feet and clumsy passing, but in all yes they did work better as a team the 2 of them on saturday,Lets hope that all the boys in the next months get back their mojo, when they are all back together as a proper team.
After the Everton annual defeat there were too many muppets calling Mancini, Dzeko, etc.
Dzeko has a proven record and he has contributed alot to our success this season, while Mancinis experience with Inter will prove invaluable !
City have played the most entertaining, exciting, football this season overall in the Prem. Have a look at shots on goal, 63 goals, and the best defence says it all !!!!!!
BMR
I just can't make my mind up about Dzeko. I dont think he is a naturally gifted footballer but someone who has to continually concentrate to make up for the absence of natural ability. When that concentration falls in tghe high speed pressure cooker of a game, what we see looks clumsy. To his credit, he usually puts in a shift. On the other side, he remains a somewhat static figure when it comes to movement along the front line and his left foot generally fails him.
Have to agree with some post,s yes he is (dzeko) hard on the eye but he keeps on going and scoring now as for all the doubters out there who think mario/sergio/kolorov plus others aint up to scratch remember a little lad from gorgia oh he,s too small wont make it in this league then there was a guy from bermuda could,nt score if he stood in front of an open goal well how they made people look stupid it was,nt that long ago that we yes we (city) were playing in the back of beyond and those of us of a certain age can remember the 6t,s/7t,s etc so stop getting at them cheer them on
SIGN THEM THEY WILL PLAY
Has anyone read the following article from Stuart Brennan "Now Manchester City can storm all the way to the title - Roberto Mancini"
I have but unless I'm blind I could not find the headline attributed to Roberto Mancini anywhere .I do not like the idea of article headings stating anything that Roberto has not said with his name attached.I do not think Mancini makes rash statements
other than he wants City to win all their remaining games. What is Mr Brennan trying to achieve as I thought he was a City supporter. Please inform me if I've misread the situation.
I really can't understand the negativity towards Dzeko. The boy, in my opinion is class and actually has a fearsome strike rate here at City. Something like 22 in 51 - nearly one every other game. As for goals per minutes on the pitch, I think his average is slightly better again. Give the boy some credit. At international level, he has 20 goals in 41 games. He's come from the Bundesliga, which is slow and less physical than the Premier, and it takes a while to get used to. Given a run in the side, Dzeko will score a hatful.
