Wigan v Manchester City: Preview

David Silva should be back

Manchester City are set to welcome David Silva back for Monday's trip to Wigan.

Silva missed Tuesday's Carling Cup defeat by Liverpool with an ankle injury but he is expected to train tomorrow and should be fit.

Mario Balotelli (ankle) is doubtful, whilst Vincent Kompany serves the second game of a four-match ban.

After losing successive games for the first time since 2008, City must now bounce back to preserve their three-point advantage over Manchester United and Tottenham.

However, coach David Platt insists the Blues are not feeling the pressure.

"No one expected us to continue winning games without having a difficult moment," said Platt.

"We can't accelerate the season by four months to see how it is going to turn out.

"But we are still in the Carling Cup semi-final and our players are quite capable of turning the situation around, and 19 clubs would like to be where we are in the championship.

"It is not a bad position to be in - some crisis."

Winger Albert Crusat is back in contention for Wigan.

Crusat has been missing with a back injury but is in line to return, while young striker Callum McManaman could be on the bench after impressing Roberto Martinez in the otherwise disappointing FA Cup defeat at Swindon.

Midfielder Mohamed Diame is on African Nations Cup duty with Senegal.

A rant:

At one time it could be a struggle getting any new about our beloved club, even in a tranfer market such as this, but now i am sick of reading complete non stories about us. I have just read a story on Sky Sports with the headline:

Platt Hints at Tevez Return

Congratualtions Sky Sports News.

One of your reports asks a City coach 'could Tevez ever play for City again?'

Platt replies "Stranger things have happened" - probably the most non committed answer to give to make sure this is a non story and you have STILL managed to get a 9 paragraph story out of it with even a sub heading called 'Strange'.

I heard the 'mad cap' Ballotelli tied his own shoe laces the other day but had to redo one of them..... see what you can do with that!

Can we slap them 5 or 6 nil please so these so called experts are disappointed?

Great news that Silva will be back. Without Yaya our ability to hurt teams is diminished. Without Yaya and Silva we looked fairly punchless against Liverpool, especially once it became obvious that Liverpool were happy with the scoreline.

No disrespect to Wigan, but this match should be a great chance for us to get back into the groove, flex our collective muscle and return to winning ways. Given the fact that we will have had a full five days to prepare for this game (surely a record this season, with the exception of international breaks), an accomplished 3-0 victory or better should not be beyond us.

I hope Edin returns to goal scoring form soon, he always puts in a shift!!

I hate when we play teams that have managers I like. Bu, I still think City should get a win away.

Got to be one of the easier team talks for this season - "They are all writing us off lads - we've lost the plot - you players are nothing without Yaya and Silva" What are you going to do about it?

Off topic. I see old 'sour puss' Fergie has predicted the Rags will need upper 80's points to retain their title. They haven't a cat in hells of getting that many. We will win the title with 87 points. Equates to winning 13 out of last 18 games or win 12, draw 3, lose 3.
Easy - our two closest rivals: Rags - away to Us, Spuds, Arsenal and Chelsea. Spuds - away to Us, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.
City - only away to Arsenal (already won there this season).

If we are looking for another Centre Back it should be 1of either A lex or Collicinni that way Lescott could share left- back with Clichy and we could get some cash for Kolorov.

Never heard anything as ridiculous as Arry's comments about our buying success. Does he not have one of our "buy's in his team ? And doesn't the fool realize that without our "buy" his overrated team would be lucky to get a Europa place.
Talk about biting the hand that feeds. I'm sure the loan deal is set for the season but if it isn't I'd bring Adebayor back just to shut him up. And Ade will not be available against us in 10 days time.

We need to play Milner in Yaya's position and use his ennergy and power and NOT De Jong ,as him and Barry just go from side to side its like watching a game of bar table football.

Give Jonson a proper run not 60 mins and take him off needs to build up his confidence, especially when he's see's the likes of the utter JOKE that his Kolarov coming on like against Liverpool this week, who gives us nothing.

I've got to say Mad Mario does seem very injury prone cant emember last time he played more than 3 games on the run??

Mancini needs to get Onuoha back in the team because quite simply Savic is not good enough. We all know Nedum is a quality player and when he was sent on loan to Sunderland we all thought it was for him to gain experience and to be honest I think he did well under Steve bruce. Now it seems Mancini wants to send the lad out on loan again whilst Savic is looking vunerable and may help damage our title hopes, lets fgace it against Liverpool he didn'y exactly look sure and the players around him looked decidedly edgy so I say Mancini is making yet another error of judgement here in essence he has got it wrong again so just when will he learn?
Our team it can be safely stated are on skid row, they look jaded and uninspired, Silva is burnt out and without Kompany we lack any sort of leader.
To dispel emerging doubts our team have to go to Wigan and put in one hell of a shift, win the game convincingly otherwise our dip in form and confidence will progress further, Roberto sort it out quickly.

Assuming Larry let-down (Balotelli) & Silva are gonna make it…

4-1-3-1-1:

_______________Hart_______________

Richards___Savic____Lescott____Clichy

______________Barrie______________

______________Milner______________
__Silva____________________Nasri___

______________Aguero_____________

______________Balotelli_____________

Subs: Pantilimon, Kolarov, Zabaleta, De Jong, Johnson, Suarez/Hargreaves, Dzeko

I suppose I’m disrespecting Wigan here but if we were playing a much better team straight after the Liverpool game, I think I’d be tempted to play Richards instead of Savic; Zaba at right back. But I think that dropping Savic after Wednesday night would dent his confidence even further. I’d give him this game for that very reason.

Score? 3-1 City.

Clucking Bells, yesterday, posted about Sky Sports. Have a alook at the Des Kelly report in today's Daily Mail - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/article-2086459/Roberto-Mancinis-card-trick-farce--Des-Kelly.html

Please no kolarov, the guy just gets worse every week, one good freekick in ten isnt enough for me and can we please never ever sign an eastern european defender again!

Report This Reply View reply

We never win when Kolarov plays!
Savic was unlucky and is a good player, encourage him to make his forward runs,
De Jong slows us up.
We need to start running at players, getting free kicks, passing much more quickly, less time on the ball passing it sideways and backwards whilst their defence waits patiently!!

HART
RICHARDS SAVIC LESCOTT CLICHY
ADAM SILVA BARRY MILNER
DZEKO/AGUERO

Dzeko is better chasing a ball, more direct and long balls to him put their defence under pressure, Dzeko first touch is poor, he does not work well in a tight crowded penalty area, he is better when given a pass to run onto, Silva and Barry can provide these passes, Aguero will buzz and create and Adam will take on players - Milner will put in a shift.
Barry has to be vocal and be Captain, Lescott should be encouraging Savic.
We have the talent but not the Leaders!

Poor against West Brom/Sunderland/United and Liverpool - with these players still available simply not good enough.

Yes, it frustrates me no end that we shoot ourselves in the foot by doing stupid things like loaning out good players to our rivals AND pay half their wages for them! WTF are we a Charity or something? Old 'Arry must be 'aving a right old larf!

Its a tonic to hear Silva could be back in the side & I would find a place in the team for Zabs who should be made skipper until the return of Komps. Failing that give Barry the armband as although Richards has come on in leaps & bounds, I still think he just lacks the necessary experience to lead the side at present. I'd love to see Ned return but feel that won't happen which is a great pity, especially when you see Kolarov played regularly at a level way beyond him & every time I hear his name is on the teamsheet its like a kick in the stomach!

This maybe a tad harsh but Kolorov is no better than bridge, in fact worse in some instances

We had Spurs slipping up against Wolves, but we
do not want City failing at Wigan, so that we can
pull away from the manure.

Come ON City !
