But the City skipper, who is serving a four-match ban following his tackle on Nani at the Etihad Stadium, insists official Chris Foy got the decision wrong and fears there will be a glut of red cards if the intent of players is not taken into account in future.
“I appealed because I obviously completely disagreed with the interpretation of the officials on the day but that happens in football and we move on,” said Kompany today on his Facebook page.
“I wonder though if we are now going to see an unprecedented wave of red cards on match days because we sanction 'ifs' and 'maybes'?
“Are we going to look back at video evidence for every single challenge that goes unnoticed by the officials, look at different scenarios and potential outcomes of what could have been considered a good tackle and then sanction it?
“Players and managers are starting to expect more sending offs from referees and I think it's for the wrong reasons.
“My understanding is that English football prides itself on the hardness, the fairness and the tradition of its game. That is why hundreds of millions of people tune in to watch Premier League football and English referees have always been a key factor to that success in my opinion.
“So I don't agree with people saying that referees in this country aren't doing well as I think they are the best in the world.
“Hopefully common sense will prevail again in the future and I for one hope not to see consistency in sending offs and suspensions when the intent of a player is to win the ball.
“I'd like to add to this that I waited for the suspension to be confirmed before making any comments on the matter as I didn't want to give the impression that I was using the media as a tool to benefit my own personal agenda in this case.
“I'm not speaking on behalf of the club or anybody else, this isn't me defending myself, this is just me raising a genuine concern.
“If football fans decide I'm wrong in raising these concerns then I will have no problem in accepting the fact that times are changing again for our game.” Tweet

Don't the journalist spot the sarcasm in his comment?
Or is it just part of his appeal? :-)
Good lad.......!!! You wouldn't get those kind of words out of the likes of Rooney or Ferdinand (a pair of twitters)
Spoken like the gentleman you are, ......CTID
Spoken like a true gent.
That third paragraph from the end speaks volumes. It's unfortunate that a couple of our out of town neighbours weren't unable or willing to do likewise.
“I'd like to add to this that I waited for the suspension to be confirmed before making any comments on the matter as I didn't want to give the impression that I was using the media as a tool to benefit my own personal agenda in this case"
What a class response from a tru professional! Would we get the same response from a certain Mr Rooney or Mr Ferdinand? I'll leave you to make your own minds up on that one!
I don't think I've ever read a better example of being "damned with faint praise" than this wonderful piece by the intelligent and articulate Mr Kompany. Each stroke of the pen draws more blood than any sword ever could. A delight to read such penmanship.
Total honsety, whilst over at the swamp nothing but thuggery and cheats
Vinnie, you are a god. but the refs in this league are NOT the best in the world. Not by a long shot. The spectre of the old guard still hangs high in the eyes of some refs and therefor the key decissions in any game will go their way. You were WRONG to have been sent off for that tackle at such an early stage of the game. Thats the end of it.
I broadly agree with these comments but feel that it is impossible to judge 'intent'. Truly dangerous play must be cut out but, again, who can judge what is potentially dangerous? Even that criterion is notoriously difficult to define.
I know that this would be controversial, but I would allow a red-carded player to be replaced (unless all substitutes have already been used) and then punish the player (and hence the club) later. This would stop crowds being denied what they have paid good money to see, namely a contest of eleven against eleven. Even our excellent captain Vincent has forgotten to factor in this point in his comments. The authorities must find some way of dealing with foul play without disadvantaging the customers. Why should we be punished?
It was great to see City battling against the odds last Sunday, but after 12 minutes had ceased to be a fair contest!
The man is correct. Refs have to step on the pitch and follow the ever-changing rules set forth by the FA. Such rules are killing English football. "English football prides itself on the hardness, the fairness and the tradition of its game"... It used to. It is partly down to our own fault of bringing so many foreign players in. It's pretty well known that even some of the best players in the world find it difficult to adapt to the physical style of the PL. They get kicked up in the air and they don't like it. Its almost like, for their protection, the FA are changing the literal meanings of their rules. 10 years ago, Kompany's "red card worthy challenge" would have been applauded for the great tackle that it was. I always thought the rule was that if you get the ball first then its not a foul. Today, it is deemed a double- footed challenge with the intent to injure Nani. Ridiculous how times change, hey? If the game continues to soften up then we might as well start watching other non-contact sports like basketball.
I would like to see bitters with such brillant comments. Any chance
Wow
Bright, level headed, diplomatic, a sense of proportion and fluent in what is probably his third language and that's before he puts his boots on..
Do me a favour Vincent, never ever leave this club.
What a diplomat! What a superb ambassador for our club !! World class player and I'd love to see him lift trophies this year.
We are going to miss his presence and I can't see us keeping clean sheets without him, whoever we play in defence.Need at least a 3-1 win tonight. Anything less and it's going to be a rerun of two years ago. Think we should bid for Samba to add muscle to our side with a player traded in return.
Good Luck lads,it's about time fortune favoured us.

Excellent comments and superb attitude from a very intelligent man, who speaks several languages, so is articulate when he expresses himself.
I admire the way he reacted to his sending-off, no tantrums, just took it like the man he is.
He has proved to be a natural leader since he was made captain.
What a contrast to his predecessor who, sadly, will always tranish the scenes when City won the F.A Cup last year.
Well said, Vinnie. I`m sure all Blues are proud of you.
“I'd like to add to this that I waited for the suspension to be confirmed before making any comments on the matter as I didn't want to give the impression that I was using the media as a tool to benefit my own personal agenda in this case.
Class Vinny! we know what, and who you mean.
Written by his PA you mugs
What will the reaction be if another City player is sent off tonight for something similiar and we all know it is not guaranteed it wont occur - what then I ask?
This is an example of why we support City, and others support United.
top man vinnie thats why hes our captain
So I don't agree with people saying that referees in this country aren't doing well as I think they are the best in the world
Good sarcasm Vinnie!
this guy has more class than , rooney, ferdinand or any of that red mob have in there little finger, totally agree with him as do the vast majority of all footy fans.
when i first started going to matches in the 70,s there was very few sendings off and only for serious violent foul play. what a captain !
COME ON YOU REDS! Knock that....
A proper captain, and a proper football man....see where I`m going here....a proper man.
Fantastic Vincent Kompany.
Manchester City Football Club.
As a red, I can tell you two things: first, I have great appreciation for the professionalism that Mr. Kompany has shown here. True class. Second, the technology now exists for the FA to review such cases. I look at the dangerous play here and have to agree with the red. However, how is Kompany subject to a 4-match ban, while Kevin Davies (who didn't even go after the ball in sending Tom Cleverley to the sidelines for 4 months) not even looked at? Kompany is a competitor, not a thug; Davies is a goon, out to intimidate. The FA has it all wrong here, and I agree with him that the FA needs to change the way they look at these things.
top man...enough said...best get me coat on and get in the car
