The Premier League leaders took their tally for the season to 48 in just their 14th game as they hammered promoted Norwich 5-1 at the Etihad Stadium.
City are well on course to break Chelsea's 2009-10 Premier League record of 103 but Platt insists that is not important.
Platt said: "The goals are irrelevant as long as we get the points.
"You hear things leading into the week, playing against a newly-promoted side - albeit one that have done quite well for themselves and are in a mid-table position.
"People automatically assume now we are going to go out and get five, six, seven or eight goals against these teams.
"To be honest, we would take one as long as there was no reply because that would get you three points all the same."

City outplayed the Canaries but were frustrated before Sergio Aguero put them into the lead after some nimble footwork in a crowded area with 32 minutes gone.
Only after the break did victory become convincing as a Samir Nasri free-kick drifted in and Yaya Toure struck a fine third.
Substitutes Mario Balotelli and Adam Johnson completed the rout late on after a Steve Morison consolation.
Platt said: "I think full credit to them.
"They got people behind the ball, they didn't want to open up too early.
"It was always going to take a bit of brilliance in a tight area to open the game up. We know we have got that kind of player out there.
"You can get frustrated sitting on the bench, think we have got to do this or that but I think it was just a matter of keeping moving the ball, keeping it shifting around and then eventually it was going to open up, by a bit of brilliance by somebody."
Norwich boss Paul Lambert conceded his side were a distinct second best but at least felt his players gave a spirited performance.
Lambert said: "They are a top, top side. Their movement is brilliant, first class.
"But you don't help yourselves when you concede the goals we did."

Even with 10 men ( sorry I don't count Kolo) we controlled the game and didn't have to find 5th gear.
City have always brought humour and fun into the game and we celebrate our wonderful taken goals with professionalism and yet Sky sports criticise us for that - would they rather see dance moves/somersaults and goading opposition fans??, why of course as Sky were not around in the "pre prima donna" days, well there are none of these in the Mancini team, just very talented players.
I agree with Platt but......isn't it great to score shedloads!! Pick of the goals today was Yaya's.....I was right in line with his shot and the way he curled it in was fantastic.
Understand where you are coming from David but with a GD of 17 better than anyone else that's the equivalent of an additional point which could be vital come the end of the season.
Whilst Platt is undoubtedly right in what he says, and the three points will always be more important than the number of goals scored or indeed the performance, what we are witnessing at present is fantastic and controlled football.
The high number of goals scored is as a direct result of great team performances, displaying a combination of commitment, skill and style. The goals are adding the icing on top of the excellent performances for the complete enjoyment of the fans.
So whilst agreeing with Platt's sentiment, I am sure that the majority of the fans are like myself, and hope that we can continue to play the same exhilarating football as well as winning and scoring goals as though they are going out of fashion !
Here's to many more goals crashing into our opponents nets throughout the season, as if that is the case, we cannot fail to succeed !
Goals scored may well be relevant at the end of the season Mr. Platt. Don't dismiss City's great record of 48 strikes so far this season. Look at the teams in 2nd and 3rd place - do you think winning 6-1 and 5-1 on their own grounds rather than say 1-0 is irrelevant?
One or two dodgy moments in defence and conceded from yet another set piece. Need to tighten up, just in case chances don't go in, all the best strikers miss them occassionally.
These are the important games to win, not the 6-1 thrashing of Man Utd although very nice it was.
Norwich came to park the bus and fair play to them they did it very well until a moment of brilliance from Sergio then a very good accomplished performance from the team
keep the feet firmly on the floor titles are won in May not December and we have some tough fixtures coming up

City was a good move for Barry, the way City are setup suits him down to the ground.
What a thinking player he is. J.Barton can critisize all he wants but Barry is light years ahead of him, and most others! Maybe a touch slow on the hoof in a long sprint, but it's rare he has to do that sprint because he has usually read the game not to do it!
Top game at the weekend.
Ya Ya Toure controlled the game. He will be a massive loss in January. Cue Rossi.
Only 5?!? Boring Boring City!!
i think we should put tevez back in straight away, we need goals from somewhere !!
I thought Barry was immense yesterday. OK its only Norwich but in a packed midfield he constantly put his foot on the ball and played little three/four yard passes putting team mates into space. There were good performances from Nasri and Yaya and Barry does most of his best work a long way from the glory areas but he was my MoM. You can bet the professionals realise how much control he gives us and just how important to our patient build up he is.This is a triumph for the rotation policy that he can have a couple of rest games and come in and make that type of contribution. Johnson the same, always makes a contribution as sub. I bet Milner, De Jong and Pabzab must be chomping at the bit to get a shirt. But there are loads of games to come in Dec and Jan and we are going to need all our players. We are going to need contributions from everyone over the next 7/8 weeks, nobody needs to get dispondent. No more talk of second stringers, droppings, second fiddle etc, please.
Obvious statement but not necessarily 100% true.
The way this team are playing is like a Rolls Royce firing perfectly on all cylinders.
The defence hate goals against and the forwards and midfield are playing unselfishly and just witness the spread of goals.
The future is BLUE BLUE BLUE!
"but you dont help yourselves when you concede the goals we did" Mr Lambert your defence had little choice because City's movement and passing was too much for your team. However I suppose when Utd beat you then missing three 'sitters' didn't help your team.
In essence Paul City were brilliant and are the best team you have played this season, United are just hanging on to our coat tails at the moment believe me!
Just been looking at the usual Sunday Papers transfer speculation.

HOW THE TIMES HAVE CHANGED!
I really like the attitude I'm seeing from the City players at the moment. It's thoroughly professional. Even at 4 to 1 up against Norwich in injury time, the players were still working hard off-the-ball and closing down to win possession back so they could score again. Such a very professional, hard-working attitude combined with the squad's quality and depth has got to be the recipe for success. Winning the title is still a long way off but there's no chink in the armour that I can see. That said, it's still possible to strengthen the squad further with an additional quality centre-half, another winger and a fourth forward. Ned is still a possible for the centre-half spot in my book. How well is Guidetti getting on in Norway for the 4th forward? Similarly, how well is Weiss doing in Spain? What about all the other 'loanees' and the Academy? I think that such players could benefit from being involved with the team now even if they're not playing regularly. The future just looks brighter and brighter.....................blue! I think the 'old top four' should start getting worried. My prediction for the 'new top four' (not in any particular order) is City, Spurs, Liverpool and either United or Arsenal. I think Chelsea will miss out this year due to the re-building that's going on there. United are looking a bit like they're 'hanging on' a bit at the moment but they may still have the edge over Arsenal in terms of expereience.
Sergio the Genius !!!
I look at the ball as a toy/ genie in the bottle in the shape of a ball that belongs to the team. When you give a corner away it’s like you had to throw the toy out of the pram to stop the spoiled ones getting it. When the opposition get the corner I get the feeling that the opposition want to give us the ball back, so it’s up to us if we want it most:-( You have to be able to calculate all the opposition and movement to your zone. 360 degrees in a circle and you have to look around it to look for danger. You have to calculate how far away the opposition is, how long for them to travel to the end of the balls projection (be there first). The ball is your wages, pension, happiness, it gives you all the good things and you have to look after it and not let it be taken away. Not looking around could mean you having something on our mind and not concentrating. If mistakes are made we should leave any inquisition till after the game and resolve it with video and debate. Screaming and shouting can take the mind away from the job at hand and concentration can be lost.If you give the ball away, your house, car, ladies, holidays, could be at risk!
Bayern Munich are standing 3rd in the league; won 3, drawn 1, lost 4. F 34, A 8.
Last five: LWWLL
Gotta love that draw! Bring on the challenge!
well that Utd at of the FA Cup then
City play united in the F.A. Cup 3rd round at our ground. I think we have some unfinished business to tend to with them.
Silver polish going cheap over Trafford way.
Dumping loads as forecasts slashed!
AS THE LATE JIMMY SAVILLE WOULD SAY, "HOWS ABOUT THAT GUYS AND GALLS" ctid
As someone said on MOTD, City are getting better and even as a die-hard fan, still not sure who our best 11 are?
Thought Barry was poor a while ago but as others have said, his reading of the game is good, Yaya looks so lazy at times but can suddenly do something brilliant!
Milner and Johnson/Mario did not start and yet they can do an equally good job, Nasri looked much better, not carried away by this one result as Norwich cost the same as Mario's shoulder!!!, but the Team are looking very good.
Only thing I did not understand was if Lescott was rested, why Savic or Onouha did not replace him as nice guy that Kolo is, his days are numbered.......!
