Get it sorted: PFA chief tells Carlos Tevez to return to Manchester City

Carlos Tevez
City rebel Carlos Tevez has been urged to return to Manchester and face the music.

Players union boss Gordon Taylor believes Tevez and the Blues are close to the point of no return – and fears their conflict may end in a messy court case.

The AWOL striker was expected back at the club on Monday for a disciplinary hearing, but remained in Argentina as City consider suspending his contract.

And as the situation deteriorates, Professional Footballers Association boss Taylor urged both parties to try to avoid a court battle.

M.E.N. Sport revealed over six weeks ago that the Blues had contemplated sacking Tevez and pursuing him through the courts for as much as £35million compensation over his refusal to warm up at Bayern Munich – in the end they fined him two weeks’ wages and warned him about his future conduct.

This time the possibility of cancelling his contract is much stronger, as Tevez’s failure to show up means he has now missed the last five days of training.

Said Taylor: “He needs to get back to his club in Manchester to get himself fit, make up with the manager and then, if he does leave in January, depart not leaving a bitter taste amongst supporters.

“The longer it goes with him being away it becomes pretty well impossible to reconcile the situation, which is very sad.

“But there are procedures laid down and we will have to deal with it.

“The club has a choice. If he’s not coming back the club can suspend his contract while there is a proper inquiry into why he went to Argentina without permission.

"I was hoping he would follow the example of Kolo Toure who accepted his punishment – a fine – and has moved on.

“There are all sorts of options and I hope it doesn’t end up in the courts but he is high-profile. That is the situation we are in, and we will have to abide by the rules laid down in football.”

Taylor also feels that any chances of Tevez making up with the club have gone, and that he has played his last game for City.

“You never say never in life or in football, but that’s looking increasingly apparent,” he said.

The club may suspend his contract while they conduct a full review of the situation, unless they get an indication from Tevez or his advisers that he will return in the near future.

Tevez, meanwhile, played golf over the weekend as his camp held crisis talks with City. One report in Argentina suggested Tevez had obtained a medical certificate which proved he is unfit to travel, but that has been denied by people within the player’s camp.

How do you think the saga will end? Have your say.

We're top of the league and still in every competition. You're a talented footballer working on your golf handicap. Carlos, it's your loss...

This is now becoming a very major issue in the arena that is World football. There is no direction coming from any quarter within football neither from the PFA who change their minds constantly, the Premier League who have said nothing, nor FIFA who have been conspicuous by their absence. The fact of the matter is that if this gets to court it could have serious ramifications on the world of football just as the Bosman ruling did. If it is deemed that after refusing to warm up or train for the club Tevez can buy out his contract and leave for free it creates a precedent. Can you imagine a young player on say £10 to 20,000 a week coming to the final year of his contract, the club want to sell him on for £10 million. He simply does as Tevez is doing buys out his contract for £500,000 and moves for free. Football needs to get this sorted asap it has gone on far too long and Tevez needs to be told in no uncertain terms that if he does not return to the club his licence will be revoked.

He's not coming back as proven by his meetings through representatives. City in my eyes have the upper hand in all this. This guy really thinks to much of himself if he and I wouldn't put it past him thinking that, City may just come crawling on all fours and beg him to come back. To be paid 250k a week by a club that's going places and was adored once by the fans that they named him King beggars believe at what is going through his lonely mind. I just hope that everything is put to bed soon and that City take him to the cleaners for what is becoming clearer by the day his own doing. I do not know much about the Fifa rules regarding clauses and guidelines but surely even Fifa can see this has to go in favour of City. We have bent over backwards as a club to make him feel important and yet still he wants more. All I ask is out wonderful owner makes the right decision and gets the best outcome for all parties,Tevez on the other hand deserves all he gets.

I think Carlos Tevez is in big trouble and on a personal level as well as with regard the repercussions of his actions. It wouldn't surprise me to see him walk away from football all together, which is something he's said he would do in interviews back before he even signed for us.

I don't have any sympathy for him because I suspect the plan cooked up years ago was to get into the EPL, make as much money as possible in a few years and then get out. At least that what Tevez may have thought it was but his "advisor" may have liked to keep making huge amounts of money by engineering further lucrative deals for his "friend".

His actions in leaving for Argentina are irrational because with regard to the "warming up incident" he'd largely got a away with it. The charge of refusing to play was unproven and the PFA had backed him by not sanctioning the 4-weeks wages fine and getting it cut in half. If he'd kept quiet and just turned up for his 4 hours of training 5 days a week he'd of been out of the club in January with little remaining fuss. I guess he felt embarrassed (he certainly should have). I honestly think that he would now rather have his contract cancelled and pay up the compensation than carry on in football because why else would he be creating this situation?

what a sad & messy ending. it's been inevtable for a while now. The best thing to do would be to sack him & pursue him through the courts. his negativity hasnt impacted on the team yet but it might. he couldnt even play for us again now. it's gone too far. the fans wouldnt have it.

sick to the back teeth of this whole cherade. like a rotten tooth he needs ripping out from our club. no respect for the club, the owner, his team mates, the manager or the fans, Tevez needs to start making his braincells work in tandem and realise he is self destructing. we have moved on this season, he could have been part of it, he chose not to, his loss!

Tevez is making this situation worse for himself by himself. Remember the old saying, "give an idiot enough rope and he will surely hang himself". What a fool!

Let him go in straight swap for Thiago Silva.

Dear Gordon;this is the situation.
Tevez"I want"
City "ok"
Tevez "I want more"
City "ok"
Tevez"dont like you"
City "ok but we have to do it properly"
Tevez "I want to go now and I will scream and scream"
City "we will make you Captain"
Tevez "ok I love you"
City "love you too"
Tevez "hate manchester want to go home"
City "ok we will sell you"
Tevez "now or I will scream and scream"
City "Scream away"
Now then Gordon your pampering this idiot is even worse than Citys.Thank God Mancini is as hard as nails.

Gordon Taylor has added to this problem with his weak stance on the "Munich no play" fiasco. By minimising Tevez's actions to a refusal to warm out, merely increased Tevez's belief that he was untouchable.

Well done Gordon.

After the way mancini has mishandled the tevez situation, i don't expect we'll see him back. he'll probably never set foot in the etihad again. we'll lose the £30 million we should have got for him and our hero, legend and talisman will disappear. mancini, you clown.

What more can you do for a player who had everything but it wasn't enough. Thanks for helping us get where we are, but we have moved on and you're no David Silva, And deep down you know it as well. A top player in a good team. A good player in a top team.

As most of you know, I fully expected a commercial resolution to this saga, and one that would result in CT back in the fold until January. This recent development is beyond comprehension. I for one wouldn't want to cross the Sheikh.

Just to recap, Carlos Tevez has recently launched the new Tevez clothing line. The brand is being given the REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE image for financial gain. Can everyone please just stop commenting.

When ever I see snippets of the team training that Aquerro fella is always messing about "avin a laff" enjoying himself. He needs to be told: "this is City, we're not here to enjoy ourselves"
He should take a leaf out of Tevez's book
