Wolves 2 Manchester City 5

Manchester City went goal-crazy on their travels again as they smashed Wolves at Molineux to ease into the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup.

Nenad Milijas put the home side ahead before City scored three goals in four minutes just before half-time through Adam Johnson, Edin Dzeko and Samir Nasri.

A Luca Scapuzzi shot rebounded in off Wolves keeper Dorus de Vries before the Italian set up a second for Dzeko.

Substitute Jamie O'Hara added a second for Wolves with the visitors winding down.

Roberto Mancini changed the entire team but it didn't stop the goals flowing for the Blues, who have now scored 45 goals in 15 games this season as they produced the same sort of clinical finishing evident in the 6-1 thrashing of United.

Wolves showed plenty of spirit but the gulf in class was massive and the will not relish having to face City again at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

They started confidently and David Edwards headed just over from Hunt's first time centre.

The home supporters appealed in vain for a penalty for handball against Aleksandar Kolarov when replays indicated the ball appeared to strike his arm.

But after 19 minutes Milijas, who scored in both league games with City last season, put Wolves in front.

Sam Vokes made good ground down the left before centring and Milijas was able to turn and fire a left-footed shot into the roof of the net.

City tried to respond to their setback and Dzeko threaded the ball through to Abdul Razak but George Elokobi made a superb tackle as the Ivory Coast youngster was about to shoot.

After 36 minutes a clinical finish from Johnson put City on level terms. Dzeko teed up the England winger on the edge of the box and his left-footed 20-yard drive flew past De Vries into the corner of the net.

Johnson then turned provider for Nasri two minutes later. His superb pass picked out the former Arsenal player and he arrowed a low shot into the corner of the net.

City were now rampant and after 40 minutes Dzeko made it 3-1. De Vries made a fine save to block Scapuzzi's close range effort from a Nasri centre but Dzeko converted the rebound.

Hunt had a great chance to reduce the arrears after 47 minutes when he got on the end of Elokobi's ball back into the box - but failed to make a clean contact on his shot.

City were soon back on the offensive and an own goal from De Vries made it 4-1 after 49 minutes. Kolarov found himself in acres of space on the left before crossing into the path of Nasri. The Frenchman's initial shot was blocked by De Vries but then the follow-up effort from Scapuzzi rebounded off him over the line.

City looked like scoring every time they ventured forward and De Vries made a point-blank save to deny Dzeko but he struck again after 63 minutes with a simple tap-in.

Wolves pulled one back 60 seconds later via the first touch of substitute O'Hara, who turned home a Stephen Ward centre.

Dzeko had the chance to complete his hat-trick but his shot was blocked by Jody Craddock.

Wolves reserves slightly better defence than United. Pantilimon bit shaky. beautiful interplay again once they got going. glad we went behind - bet rags glued to tv, radio, internet & smoke signal had their best 5 minutes in weeks then. sorry to disappoint you girls - we are going nowhere.

Incredible scoreline again, it doesn't matter which team Roberto picks, each and every member of the squad have the ability and determination to succeed.
Cannot wait for the home PL game against Wolves at the weekend, we'll just have to ensure we're not over confident after tonight's magnificent performance.
Onwards and Upwards City!!

My concerns are our goalkeeper, seems reluctant to catch the ball and this was noticed by Wolves in the second half. We also allowed Wolves to get back in the game with too many shots and goal chances, K Toure slow also. Good points in our youngsters, showing good promise for the future.

Great result.Strange times for those of us who have been watching city for many years. That would have definitely have been one of those games where we would have been back down to earth with a bump not so long ago.CTID

Great win again for CITY, fantastico. They left the poor wolves with empty bellies. We have to be careful that the wolves don’t come knocking at the door weekend. I get the feeling there is a lot of teams out there that have been deflated for a long time and when they come up against city they will artificially pump themselves up for us. It’s up to CITY to pump themselves bigger. Well done to Adam, Džeko, Samir, Scapuzzi, Ninja, James, Rekik, Zabadabado, Kolo, Savic, Kolorov, Pantilimon, Razak, Suárez. Can’t wait till the next game. CITY mean business

WELL DONE BOBBI & MY BLUES -

Another win -

With a weakened team out there, I thought we performed quite well..

Only critism I would say that Pantilimon is rubbish and needs shipping out on loan to learn his trade..

Still a victory and a good team effort ..is it me or is Dzeko still struggling...I know he scored ..but simple chances in my opinion go begging.

WERE CITY FOR LIFE !!

Dzeko still not convincing. Bad first, second, third touch and also his 11 goals this season doesn't impress me. Ok, he continues to provide assists but that's easy. Did I forget to say he is slow, Evra twice as quick. One last thing, he cannot score against big teams like Utd, spurs, France, Spain. Offload him!

Eufa want answers. Why are Manchester City scoring so many goals and setting new records also entertaining and bellittleing opponents. Firstly the current reigning premier champions and now Wolves with the City team containing 11 changes Including young kids.

Why are City scoring 3 goals in 3 minutes in one game and only 3 goals in 4 minutes in the next game.

Not good enough! Boring, ruining football and attracting new fans and pundits In despair..

This was a step up after beating relegation fodder at the weekend but it was an excellent performance and a comfortable win ultimately.

This is highly unusual, aren't we supposed to follow a big win by getting beat, thus crushing our joy and contentment? Strange times indeed for City fans.

From our first eleven to our second eleven, it just gets better and better.

Four minutes of sublime football finishing. Bring on a home game for the next round.

Well played blues.

Dzeko needs to hold up the ball and put away good chances.
Zab had a nightmare, Goalie iffy and Savic after a poor 20 mins started to settle down and for me is a replacement should Richards or one of our centre backs get injured.
Toure has this one season left in him and Mancini is right to criticise Johnson as Silva and Milner showed, it is not just about scoring but the defensive duties are equally important, Mario is learning this lesson at the moment.
Positives - blooding very good 16, 17 and 18 year olds - who all did their bit especially Razak.
Another entertaining game, but appears that City need to give the opposition the first 20 mins of possession in order to make a contest out of it.!!
