Manchester City suffered Champions League defeat against Bayern Munich - with striker Carlos Tevez refusing to come off the bench for the Blues.
After an encouraging start, the Blues conceded two first-half goals from Mario Gomez despite brave attempts by Joe Hart to save them.
The German giants made their experience tell and were the stronger side, although City had two early penalty shouts turned down for challenges on David Silva and Micah Richards.
City's task was made even harder as striker
Carlos Tevez refused to go on when asked in a move that surely puts his future at the club in doubt once again.
City discovered just how steep the learning curve is to make the transition from Champions League qualifiers to actual contenders.
They were unfortunate that Hungarian referee Viktor Kassai did not spot either of the two decent penalty claims City had before Gomez struck.
Former City defender Jerome Boateng was the guilty man on both occasions, the first of which at least looked pretty clear. David Silva contributed to the problem by admirably trying to play on when he got clipped close to the byline.
If the Spain midfielder had been more theatrical, he might have gained a spot-kick. Instead he tried to play Samir Nasri in and City got nothing.
Boateng also barged Micah Richards over but this would have been more debatable, even if Yaya Toure made his displeasure known to the official.
However, with Silva and Nasri scheming and Dzeko looking a threat, City were the better side for half an hour, when it appeared they might emulate Norwich, who remain the only English team to beat Bayern on their own ground in 16 attempts.
Once Franck Ribery got into his stride, City were in trouble.
The French winger has destroyed plenty of teams down the years and now it was the turn of Mancini's men to feel the heat.
Ribery sped past Gareth Barry before setting up Thomas Muller, but his effort flew over.
Range
Muller then turned provider as City tried to play a woeful offside. Again they escaped as Bastian Schweinsteiger failed to find his range.
The Blues were in trouble though and it was no surprise Bayern scored on their next attack.
No surprise either Ribery was the architect, lashing another fierce shot goalwards that City goalkeeper Joe Hart could not hold.
Somehow, Hart prevented Muller tucking home the rebound. But he could not stop Gomez making it third-time lucky as he finished from close range.
Sergio Aguero was booked for a foul on Schweinsteiger as City tried to steady the ship.
But worse was to come in stoppage time when Toni Kroos fizzed over a free-kick that Daniel van Buyten flicked goalwards.
Again, Hart saved. Again, Bayern had another option as Gomez tucked home his second.
City nearly conceded a third when Muller just failed to turn home Philipp Lahm's near-post cross.
Discontent was raging on the sidelines though and Gael Clichy was booked as City's bad night got worse.
Kolo Toure was also booked as he gave away a free-kick which would have led to a third Bayern goal if Hart had not superbly turned Gomez's header away.
Arjen Robben replaced Ribery, his work done, in the final minute, before substitute Aleksandar Kolarov rolled the last chance wide for City in stoppage time.
What is your verdict? Have your say.

Sorry mancio but youve only got yourself to blame, with that setup you were always going to lose the midfield, and the substitutions beggar belief, dejong for dzeko when 2-0 down is something id expect from mark hughes, defencively a shambles, welcome back kolo how weve missed you.to see the reaction after going 2 down was the biggest disappointment no fight whatsoever.
I’m trying to be philosophical about it all and take some positives – for over half an hour we were the better side controlling the play & I was amazed by the number of time Bayern made loose passes. We could and should have created a little more during that time. Two potential penalties – wasn’t surprised that neither was given. Hart did very well on their two goals but was let down by poor defensive work.
Second half we couldn’t keep the ball, then couldn’t get the ball. We were spanked.
Bit confused by some of Mancini's substitutions but he's the boss & knows better than me. We’re in with the big boys now & this will happen along the learning curve. However, we don’t become a crap side over night & it’s not over just yet – still four games to play.
We never got going !!
anybody else notice that gomez was offsides for their second?
ABSOLUTE DREADFUL !!
Poor poor performance – and got to be honest If I was Khaldoon Id be asking questions tomorrow with Bobbi Manc !!
2-0 down need a goal and Manni the clown takes Dzeko off...WTF !!
Something went on with Carlos and Zab towards Bobbi !! Love to know what was said !!
We can go on and on ...but we were taught a lesson tonight !!
YAYA one lazy (^&...t
Coco’s back everyone – say no more !!
Barrys past it !!
DISGRACE CITY – 10 mins into the game and you think great game this is gonna be then we fall apart !!
WELL PLAYED JOE HART !!
DISGRACE BLUES !!!!!!!!!!!! BOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!
I PRAISED ROBERTO ON SATURDAY FOR THE WAY HE CHANGED THE MATCH, BUT TO-NIGHT HE HAS TO TAKE IT ON THE CHIN
"2137: An incredible game at Old Trafford but that's nothing on the scenes at the Allianz Arena where Carlos Tevez refused to warm up when he was asked to come on in the second half. Tevez's team-mate Edin Dzeko, who I think he was meant to replace, showed his disgust when he took his place on the bench, and I suspect that is just the start of this particular story." (BBC website)
I hope I NEVER see Tevez play in a City shirt again - he should be fined the maximum amount and left out of the squad. A disgrace masquerading as a man.

IF THE TEVEZ STORY IS TRUE, THEN ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, HAVE HIM SHOT!!
Really poor tonight, men against boys. I'm struggling to understand the substitutions can anyone explain.
some real disappointments here tonight. first of all in the boss - what was he doing playing Kolo after so little match pactice? 2ndly - Kolo out of position at important times including the second goal. did Tevez refuse to join in? if so what next? sub change was wrong Deko a better bet. Nasri should have been of earlier. Richards good despite Ribery. we were taught an important lesson tonight. we must learn from it.
A real fairy tale result - Grim! Good 1st half hour and unlucky to go in 2 down. The 2nd half was appalling. I wonder if something happened at half time? Certainly heads were down. If Tevez has refused to come on as the media are saying then he should be reimbursing every fan who spent hard-earned money to go and watch the team. What a spoilt brat. Training on his bill til we can ship him out after Xmas. If we win our games home & away v Villarreal we are right back in it. Not sure why Kolo played over Lescott but I am not going to question Mancini, though doubtless the usual goons will. On the plus side United had an even worse result than us, so any of the usual joy at our result will be tempered by their own failings.
Mancini was out of his depth tonight no two ways about it we deserved to get beaten,i think the players need to take some responsibility but mancinis inexperience cost us dear, its not over by a long chalk but we need to learn and learn quick the commentary team were besides themselves they were so pleased city came unstuck and watch them sprint with the tevez spat rumour has it he refused to play but yes blues, mancini did us in today but on a good note the rags scrawped a very lucky draw when some were predicting a rout.
Get rid of Tevez.
He refused to play - what an absolute disgrace.
Not great but lets get some perspective. Bayern are fundamentally VERY good and in addition are on a hot streak. I have seen Madrid and Barcelona recently and Bayern are of that level.
Also I can see why Mancini made the changes he did. Just because we were behind it doesn't mean throwing more strikers at it would make the difference. We were losing it in midfield and by going 4 5 1 he was trying to win that back. Last year some of our best attacking performances came when we played with one up front.
All that said...we now probably need to beat Villareal twice and get something in Naples. It's tough at the top!
Goodbye Tevez. He wanted out from City like he wanted out from other teams he hi-jacked money from. Forcing him to stay in the summer wasn't the best idea City ever had. Tevez and his mafia backers will find a way to get out and get huge backhanders from the next gullible club.
poor display, out played nuff said.
Yes we came up short....well short against a very impressive Bayern side who were just too good in every department for us.
We started well and could easily have had one maybe two penalties but after 35 mins we just seemed to be overrun in midfield as Bayern took control and, in truth, once we went behind we never looked like coming back. Gareth Barry and YaYa Toure are just not good enough at this level when we don't have the ball. Bayern zipped the ball about and opened us up at will.
The only players to emerge were credit were Joe Hart, some incredible saves and got no help from his defence for the goals, Micah Richards who I thought was exceptional tonight getting forward and did as well as anyone could expect against Ribery (the best player on the pitch) and Clichy who got forward well and looked to have the speed necessary at this level. Kolarov also had a useful cameo although I have doubts about him generally.
The big question mark was why take Dzeko off to replace him with de Jong ? Surely everyone could see Nasri or Barry had to come off. Tevez apparently refused to come on to the pitch. This must mean he will never be picked again if that turns out to be true.
Disgraceful. Mancini looked really upset and justifiably so.
Beaten by a far better team. Ok we should have had two penalties early on but after the first 20 minuets we were never in it. Why did he keep yaya on ,the man was absolutley rubbish. he should have brought Milner on earlier. The midfield was non existant apart from Barry, who I thought had a good game, But we were well beaten.
The air went out of the balloon after 30 minutes. I was very surprised that Mancini fielded nearly the exact lineup that he picked on Saturday. What's the point of having a big squad if you won't utilize the fresh legs at your disposal??? I fully expected to see Tevez, Milner, De Jong or Zabs, Kolarov and Kolo in the starting lineup, but only Kolo selected. This is the same mistake we saw from Mancio last season at times. No point whining later that your players are tired if you won't play the rested ones at your disposal.
Open dissent from Dzeko and Tevez on the sideline - it's time for a re-think here from the manager. I cannot condone the behaviour of Edin and Carlos, but maybe Mancio needs to accept that poor selection and substitution issues contributed to all this. Nevertheless, we're still not out of the CL, as we can win our home matches and still have a chance to progress to the group stage. Let's hope we can put this defeat behind us and concentrate fully on the next Prem fixture.
Best Bayern side I have seen in years, I can really see them going all the way this year, I really couldn't see any team beating them at their home ground this year.
Disgusting conduct from Tevez, just shocking behaviour, beneath contempt and completely unprofessional.
Djeko lost his head after being substituted,,, but that can be forgiven.
Carlos, if it is true, refused to warm up then he must be fined big time and suspended and be shipped of to train with the kids until he can traded in January. Disgusting!
Get tevez out the door as soon as possible,he must never play for city again
"Welcome to the EDS Carlos"
Mancini Out , Mourinho In .
