6 HART: Won’t be happy that Edinson Cavani’s goal went through his legs, as clinical a finish as it was. Barely called upon, although would have conceded earlier but for his crossbar and his captain.
6 ZABALETA: Troubled by the movement of Napoli’s front three – he wasn’t alone in that – but made great block to deny Marek Hamsik. Willing to attack, and had a feisty battle with Ezequiel Lavezzi.
6 KOMPANY: Mixed night for a defender who hasn’t hit last season’s heights yet. Slipped up in the first half when Lavezzi hit the bar, but made a superb goalline clearance from Hamsik.
5 LESCOTT: Spurned an excellent headed chance from an early second-half set-piece, and had an uncomfortable night defensively on a testing Champions League debut. Will have learned an awful lot from facing Cavani and Co.
7 KOLAROV An eventful evening. Broke his nose in the first half, almost embarrassed keeper Morgan De Sanctis will one searching free kick, found the net with another – and then was immediately hauled off!
6 Y TOURE: Few chances to accelerate at the visitors’ massed ranks, but one thrilling break from a Napoli corner ended with a shot against the underside of the bar.
5 BARRY: Not the ideal night to ease yourself back in after ankle trouble, and he was exposed by Napoli’s speed on the counter-attack. Nigel De Jong would have offered more resistance.
6 SILVA: Very rarely gave the ball away. But once he got closer to goal, the fact that his team-mates were so well marked made playing the killer pass almost impossible.
6 AGUERO: No goal against the father-in-law’s old club, although only the crossbar prevented that. Gets marks for persistence, even though he was often forced into wide areas to try to find space.
5 NASRI: Inconsistent with his deliveries from wide areas – whether at corners, free kicks or in open play. City needed better balls in from the Frenchman to give Dzeko the chance to do some damage.
6 DZEKO: Impressive workrate. Showed a Tevez-like willingness to drop deep for the ball in an attempt to draw out Napoli’s defenders, although he rarely looked like adding to his early-season goal glut.
SUBSTITUTES:
CLICHY (for Kolarov, 75): Occupied mainly in an attacking role as City chased a late winner. 6
JOHNSON (for Nasri, 75): Always has capacity to change a game. One late shot saved. 7
TEVEZ (for Dzeko, 81): Slack use of the ball after a sloppy warm-up. Didn’t look interested. 4
NOT USED: Pantilimon, Richards, K Toure, Savic.

I know Barry was at fault for the goal we conceded, the guy had to run the full length of the pitch though!! but to give him a 5 has under scored him, he was one of our better players. Same goes for lescott worth more than a 5 on that outing.... These nights are made for de Jong
I agree with Mancini - too many touches in the first half. Everyone wanted too much time on the ball and we came up against a well drilled Napoli defence which was light years ahead of anything we've played this season They also counter attacked well and we were left exposed more often than we should have been.
Overall an even game and a big learning curve for us. We must play with more width and a higher tempo at home. Our finishing was also not a sharp as it needed to be at this level. Some positives though to take into the Bayern game.
How could you give Toure a 6? Best player on the pitch by a mile.
Tevez !!!!!!!!!
Your reporter didn't see the game I did. Ya Ya was very good throughout the game; so was Barry (apart from giving the ball away - very high up the field I might add - which led to their goal) and Lescott was more impressive than Kompany on the night. Dzeko was also very good although I'm not sure why he was out on the left for so much of the time. All these four were worth at least a 7. Nasri. Aguero and, in the second half, Silva did not have very effective games. What most disappointed me was that very little attempt was made by any of our players to get to the line to produce devastating pull-backs. Narrow play down the middle relies on great speed and pinpoint accuracy because the angles are so much tighter and can easliy be covered by defenders of the quality possessed by Napoli. When Richards and Clichy do not play, then surely Adam Johnson must?
I am baffled once again by yours scoring system, apart from the goal name 1 decent thing Kolarov did during the game. Whenever he plays the defence loses it's shape as lescott has to cover for him due tom his woeful defensive qualities.
Something tells me Mike Whalley never bothered watching this game. Gareth Barry was one of the best players for City tonight. His work rate was exceptional, mopping up everything that Lescott should have been sorting out, and linking up well with Kolarov who had one of his best matches in a City shirt.
Hart must have been wondering what was happening after spending the past month twiddling his thumbs on the goal line.
Yaya was an 8 for me, 9 if he converted the goal. Haven't seen the stats but it looked like he had the lion's share of the passes in mid-field and almost single-handedly held the game in their half by stopping so many attempts by Napoli to counter attack and starting most of our attacking movements. The game would have looked very different without him on the pitch.
WHAT!? What's going on with these ratings Mike?! Haven't got time to rip through 'em all but...Kompany 6?! He was immense last night!
Not really in agreement with these ratings.
Toure 6? He was on top form last night, really had the bit between his teeth. If anything you could say he wanted it a bit too much so was upfield a little too much leaving Barry and the defence exposed. But MOTM for me.
Barry 5? Again, he was at the heart of most things. His positioning is second to none in this team. Whenever there was a loose ball either coming back from their end or coming out of defence he was there. Always looking for the ball and generally always finding a blue shirt. Could be judged to be at fault for goal, but Nasri played it far to cute and left him in a horrible position. 7 for me
Lescott 5? Thought he had a very good game. Won everything in the air and showed great pace a few times. At least a six for me.
Bit harsh on Tevez I think. Didn't look interested?? He only had 9 minutes and for me did OK. Also a bit harsh on Lescott who I thought had a decent game and made less mistakes than Kompany.
we need to get rid of barry asap! since signing for us he must have played 5 decent games MAXIMUM! thats not good enough
midfield not there to stop them coming at us and then we were often left 2 against 3/4 because the full backs were caught forward far too often, need to tighten up in the middle
Toure 8....best player on the pitch by far! What game were you watching to rate him 5?
Lescott definitely outperformed Kompany. Goal-line clearance aside he gave the ball away with two poor passes which we were lucky not to concede from.
4 for Tevez is a bit harsh too. Only had the time to get on the ball a few times and he ran it OK when he did: Napoli just put a lot of traffic in the way. Him and AJ should have came on sooner when the game was getting away from us around the hour mark.
Tevez didn't look interested? The MUEN couldn't wait to put as much negative spin on this game as possible. We could easily have won this game by two or three goals with no change in performance...just luck! would the best rating still be a lowly, singular 7.
Mike Whaley did you watch the game?
Agree with these ratings and Stan Bowles comments. But one rating seems harsh - Lescott. Yes he had some header chances. But generally I thought he was excellent.
Your ratings are a bit low for me.. Zab only gets a 6 when he was non stop throughout,(7) Barry deserved more than a 5, (7) Dzeko led the line brilliantly (7) and Kolarov m.o.m gets only 7 (8).
I wonder how many of those fans that were getting on Kolarov's back feel about him this morning?
I know marking is subjective but how you can give Lescott 5 and Kolarov 7 is beyond me. I also thought Barry had a good game apart from the terrbile slip that gave the ball away. As for Tevez not looking interested, I thought he brought somer much needed strength and urgency into a front line that was being muscled out of the game. But you are a professional reporter and I am not!
was it only me? I thought the ref was worth at least a nine.... I have rarely seen a European match that was allowed to flow like this one and he was spot on with ALl his decisions bar 1. On the players like others not sure Barry was a five he had a solid game bar conceding the ball for their goal, which in fairness happened 40 yards from their goal and not ours!
These scores are a joke. Wasn't a bad performance on the night, just a bit naive at this level. How has Kolarov got a higher mark than YaYa or Dzeko. Was our least effective player till the free kick.
Barry made themistake for their goal but apart from that had a great game ... thought dzeko held the line and won so many balls and was my motm... Hart had no chance with the goal or the shot that hit the bar.... thought Vinnie had a decent game... Lescott looks uncomfortable on the ball but did ok.... think RM should have played Clichy and Micah to be honest as the pace and forward running would have had Napoli struggling.... overall not too disappointed with a draw( obviously wanted a win)....back to winning ways on Sunday and i think we will finish 1st or 2nd in group..... CTID.....Lots of unhappy fans struggling to get in as problems with tickets as per, sort it out ticket office .
Either Mike Whalley didn't actually go to the match last night or else he's a Man U supporter but his ratings are way off beam. It was a thrilling match which City fully contributed to and if his ratings were accurate, this couldn't be the case. His criticisms of Barry and Tevez were particularly uncalled for. Best players for me were Barry, Toure and Dzeko. Least effective were Aguero, Nasri and to a lesser extent Silva but this was down to the excellent tactics of the Italians.
All in all a great night and a valuable point for City
lescott 5 are you serious he was our best defender by a mile, kolarov (allright i know he scored, more down to the keeper than anything else imo) was just not up to the task 4 at the most, why bobby manc left out clichy is beyond me, apart from being a better player, sammy nass is clearly a better player with his old buddy in the team and as much as i love zabba i think richards pace and power would have frightend the life out of the napoli fullbacks, having said that it is only my opinion and in bobby manc i trust!!!!
