Joe Hart signs new Manchester City deal

Joe Hart

England goalkeeper Joe Hart has signed a new five-year contract with Manchester City.

The 24-year-old, who fought off the challenge of Shay Given to establish himself as first choice, has committed himself to the club until 2016.

He told the club's official website www.mcfc.co.uk: "I'm absolutely delighted to have signed a new deal and it is a very exciting time to be a City player.

"I can't think of myself being anywhere other than City and it really feels like home. I feel very privileged to be staying here for another five years.

"I've got a lot of love for this club, the way we're moving forward and for the fans who have been fantastic towards me from day one."

Hart joined City from Shrewsbury for £600,000 in 2006 and has also taken over the position as England first-choice goalkeeper.

He set a new club record for clean sheets last season, and has paid tribute to Given's influence - the Republic of Ireland stopper has now moved to Aston Villa.

Hart added: "When I signed from Shrewsbury it was always my aim to become the number one here and I was prepared to do anything to achieve that, including going out on loan a few times to prove my worth.

"Shay's influence on me has been massive and being able to work alongside him has brought my game on tremendously.

"I've lost a close friend and a fantastic team-mate but I'll keep in touch and talk with him on a regular basis."

Good to have Joe on a long term deal and great to have a great keeper playing for the club. No need to spend big, as some have had to, to acquire a goalkeeper.

Good news, best keeper in prem by a country mile.

Off subject, before the community sheild was played every reds was treating it as a pre season game not so now, the way they celebrated, ah well.

Some good news to cap off a bad weekend. not a shock we lost playing nine men. Do we know why mario and yaya where named on the team sheet yet didn't come out to play?

Not jumping on anyones back hear, but why was yaya toure first played, and then not subbed? It was clear to all see he was 10 metres of the pace yesterday, and leaving him on and taking milner off was shocking. There was one point in the second half, where he was 3 yards away from anderson and could of easily closed him down, yet he walked over to him, like he didnt care in the world. Luckily this was only a pre-season match, and means nothing more, but if we are to catch that lot from across the way, we need to seriously buck our ideas up

i hope he doesnt get too complacent now that Given has gone. Having a quality keeper to compete with helped this lad out.

Loving the media frenzy over yesterdays match.

Ive had to laugh at the talk of Uniteds youngsters and Citys Mercaneries and amount of spending by moneybags Citeh!!. We know most of our wasted spending was done by ex rag!

Lets get a few facts straight.

Out of starting line ups Citys average age was 24.82 compared to Uniteds 25.55. Of the players that got on pitch yesterday I think you will find that transfer fees of players was about 4million difference, (214million City to 210million UTD) and in that I am taking Milners full price tag as opposed to how much Ireland was in that deal, so we all pay to win things so dont be so delusional reds!.

We pay big wages like you do, and Chelsea end of, and as for Mercanaries, I think Mancini sussed them out when he took over. If you see Mancinis policy is to buy people who are still young who he can develop and if it doesnt work out we can sell on for decent fee as still young. We bought too many older players in the past for ridiculous prices and wages that we cannot get rid of now. The squad I see now are not mercaneries, well paid yes but also want to win something.

Never like losing against our enemies, but lets put a few things into perspective. We were beaten by better team on the day yesterday, end of.

They were sharper and passing was better. This had nothing to do with Mancinis tactics, and the media going on about us being negative again. We were not negative as we had Milner and not Barry playing, it was just awful passing and lack of movement which is why we didnt keep hold on to the ball well, but all this will come within a few weeks....So they beat us, they beat Barca in pre season friendly and we beat Milan, but you know if we both play the same teams in the Champions League the games will be so much different.

City wont go away, keep the faith Blue Boys

The very best of success over the next five years Joe.

I hope the rest of the City defence will help you out,
not leaving you on your own, as they did for that
third Rag goal on Sunday !

Come ON City ......... ALL of you !

Come on City ........ ALL of you.

Good news.As a supporter from the Bert Trautmann era I think Joe is proving to be one of our best signings and he will still develop(distribution needs improvement methinks).Let`s hope we can put Sunday`s nightmare behind and start with a clean sheet and a few goals of course..

It's always good to get one of our better younger players tied to a long term deal. The new Romanian guy is also young and it's going to be interesting to see if he pushes Joe and makes him better. The new lad also has to get game time so I hope City will do what Stoke did with Sorensen, and let him play in the minor cup comps.

I wonder what you'll all be saying in two to three years time when Joe is becomes a permanent bench-warmer on £400,000 a month after your new manager signs the latest big name.....
