Closing in: Manchester City hope to seal Sergio Aguero deal this week

Sergio Aguero

Manchester City hope to close the deal for Sergio Aguero by the end of the week.

Boss Roberto Mancini revealed the Blues are in talks with Atletico Madrid over the proposed transfer.

Mancini said after the LA Galaxy game: “The last I heard the club were talking to Atletico Madrid, but maybe in four or five days, before the next game. Maybe this week we can close the deal.”

Aguero and Carlos Tevez could both be available for the Community Shield against Manchester United as they should report for training on August 4.

Mancini added: “Sergio played in the Copa America and if we close the deal I need to speak with him to know his opinions as he needs to recover.

“Carlos will be back and if his condition is good he has a chance to play as well.”

What do you think? Have your say.

With this guy and Nasri..... Jigsaw complete.

This team (when settled..nearly there) has the capability of beating anyone with one or two exceptions (Barca and Real perhaps).

Really really really hope we can pull this one off and I still hope Tevez stays too despite everything. The thought of Tevez & Aguerro playing up front with a midfield of Silva, Yaya, Nasri/Jonno, DeJong, Milner (my prediction for the most improved player 11/12), wow now that excites!

We'd better sign Aguero. If we don't we are going to have a striker crisis before the season has even started. Dzeko was truly awful again last night and Mario is talented but unpredictable.
Adebayor and Bellamy are confined to Mancini's naughty group and I don't particularly want to see Tevez in a blue shirt again.

Good good, all shaping up quite nicely this. A pretty awesome attacking 5 is taking shape nicely if we sign Aguero and if Nasri joins as well. So many options!

THis guy would be a seriously good additiona to the squad.

Its players of this calibre that will make that extra bit of a difference and put us firmly in the title race. Our squad is settled now and I expect the likes of Yaya, Silva and Dzeko to hit the season running as opposed to ten games in.

I don't see Chelsea improving their squad right now but there is still time for them i suppose. Fergie seems to be done although they have at best stood still - Scholes was irreplaceable and Young is poor replacement at best. Jones is a good buy but wont feature much next season.

I guess the final destination of Nasri may be key to the battle and I see fergie has got Patrice "i want to move to a big club or give me £2m more" Evra on the case. I'm sure Mr Vieira has had a word also so lets see what happens on that one.

Seatbelts on!!!!

We do need this guy plus two creative midfield players who can play wide. Our midfield with the exception of Silva looks lacking in ideas. We also seem unable to deliver decent balls into the box. Nasri and De Rossi would provide better quality in midfield. I'd even consider a swap Tevez for Sneijder plus £10m. Aguero down the middle with Silva on one side and Nasri on the other with Sneidjer behind and De Jong acting as the holding player would be fantastic.

Why is Mancini making our interest public?..it could easily trigger interest from other clubs!...n we want this player badly, so why jeopardize it?

the whole league especial utd and Liverpool resent this signing.

We look to sign ageuro and nasri, utd sign young and jones.

Worse still Liverpool sign henderson and caroll.

You could not write it.

Om marketability alone this beloved club is moving in the write direction.

Once he settles, he will be our talisman, replacing his countryman Tevez. Brilliant dribbler in tight spaces - he's never really marked, as he can always create a little bit of daylight to get his shot off. He will gel quickly with Silva and Dzeko, as well as with Mario, in time.

Let's all celebrate when he's signed, sealed and delivered in a City shirt. Until then it's all if's, but's and maybe's.
