Rumoured Manchester City target Luka Modric 'not for sale'

Luka Modric
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp insists rumoured Manchester City target Luka Modric is not for sale.

Chelsea are understood to have had a £22million offer for the Croatian playmaker rejected on Wednesday night, with Manchester United also reportedly interested.

Redknapp is keen to hold on to the 25-year-old, who enjoyed a superb season at the heart of the Spurs midfield last year.

"Luka is not for sale," Redknapp told the BBC

"If there has been a bid of £22m that is ridiculous. There are people being sold for £20m who are not fit to lace Luka's boots."

Modric may have scored just four goals last season, but his tireless performances and creativity make him an obvious target for any top team looking to improve their midfield.

Earlier this month Modric told a Croatian newspaper that he was happy at Spurs but would be open to a move if the club altered their stance and chose to sell him.

"If an offer comes which is good for Tottenham and for me also, then a transfer is possible," said Modric, who signed a new contract last year.

Would you like to see City go for Modric? Have your say.

A good player, but would he be willing to play second fiddle to David Silva who, in his first season in the PL, showed he is on another level to Modric. He would be a good addition, no doubt, but I just don't see where he would fit in.

Modric would surely add creativity to the midfield and ease some of the burden from Silva, but for me we need goalscorers in midfield and attack (preferably some with pace). United won the title this year by scoring more than any other club and having a relatively solid defence. They scored 18 more goals than us in the league (which is just short of the amount Tevez scored in the PL) and thats what we need address. Just think where we'd be if we had another Tevez in the side? Gone would be the days of controlling matches and then throwing points away like we did at Sunderland, Everton and Villa. I think Mancini realises this and I'd expect to see some relatively big name signings on 1st July, whether thats one or two of: Sanchez, Mata, Aguero, Pastore, Neymar, Nasri or Fabregas.

Both Silva and Modric have great vision, both have great touch. Modric has greater mobility and David has bottled it in front of goal on a couple of occasions. It would be nice to have them both to share duties tho.

Nope. Not in the same league as David Silva.

For once I think Harry has a point because Modric is an excellent player. He wouldn't be at the top of my wish list but he'd be a great alternative.

This is what makes arry a shrewd manager-

You watch us pay well over the odds now !!

Forget it city - move on ...

CITY FOR LIFE

Like Bale he's a little over-rated in my opinion. Personally, I'd love us to have a go at Bastian Schweinsteiger.

we need a attacking mid who is 2 footed and also a goal scorer. Kaka springs to mind

Has much as i like him as a player im getting lescot flash backs
we`d end up paying well over the odds.

stay well clear unless in falls in the 25/27 mill bracket.

Is he better than Silva? Clearly not! No way mancini would play both of them in the same team, two small players, two players in the centre who don't particularly tackle, it ain't happening. Non story.

I'd trust Harry the Spiv as far as I could spit him.

He would simply leave one non achieving club, to join another. He'll prefer a move to to 'Englands most successful club' or stay with Spurs. Joining City would be a step down.

well quell surprise!!!

Harry's got a point ... 20m for Jones !?!... And they say we're the ones causing the inflation in the marketing.

Just a thought, but if we really want to raid White Hart Lane for a midfield player, then surely the money would be better spent on Van der Vaart who not only creates but scores goals. I'm sure if we offered him a big enough carrot in terms of wages and the fact he will be in the Champions League he would join us. We give them Adebayor and £10m and get a player who seems to have taken to the Premier League like a duck to water!

there you go again rag mag, we have never shown any interest in modric, every body else on the planet may be if you listen to the media , but not modric, its the clowns from over the city that are interested not us. the real mark jones.

Granted city have champions league but surely on every other level Spurs are a bigger club? I certainly view them as so as does every other proper football fan that I know.

Can't for one minute see why any player would leave a club with fabulous history and tradition and a massive passionate fan base to come and play at a souless half empty stadium of a much smaller club
