The 25-year-old Croatian was one of the Premier League's stand-out performers last season, with Manchester United and Chelsea also reportedly monitoring him.
And now City have joined the race for his signature as boss Roberto Mancini looks to strengthen his squad for next season's Premier and Champions League campaigns, report the Daily Mail.
Would you like to see Modric at City? Have your say. Tweet

I have just read an article on a Spurs blog about this. It is to be hoped, for the article writer's sake, that this doesn't happen. Talk about ranting and raving, dear me.
He would be a tremendous acquisition and take some of the load off Silva.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. The player we need to complement Silva
silva and modric in the same team is just heavenly also it would be so good if united , liverpool, inter , barca and many others have been interested in modric and sanchez and we just blow them out of the water and sign him in a day. just show the world out dominance . we can also afford to with all the fringe players hefty wages being cut out it must total about 350k a week that would pay for 3 top class players .
onwards and upward
Would love us to get him but honestly can you see 'arry agreeing to that???
If we offered Bellamy, Adebayor AND some cash (10-15 million) he may go for it - either that or a cash bidding war starts at 30 million and then sky rockets into the stratoshphere........If any bidding gets near that 40 million mark then that is the buy out release cause on Javier Pastores contract and for me that is a then no brainer - Pastore will be good enough for that Barca midfield in a season or two and is only just 21.........
Modric is top class though and Prem proven so it would be fantastic to snare him
It is rumoured that Mancini wants Modric badly and has been authorised to make an opening bid of £30M for the lad. United as well as any other team apart from Chelsea maybe wont in that case be able to compete is as simple as that --end of story!
Not sold on Modric. For that money we can get a real super star.... not a Modric. We've overspent so heftily on hype and potential. Just get Samuel Eto'o.
Although both Modric and Silva are wonderful players, neither of them has an eye for goal, hence why City are more in the need of a player in the Wesley Sneijder mould. Though that is not to say that I wouldn't love to see a player of Modric's ability week in week out playing for the Blues. But would Harry part with his main asset, and particularly when City are a major rival for Spurs' Champions League ambitions?
IMHO I think Modric will defo strengthen our midfield, but playing him and Silva together not so sure.
But who am I?
CTID...
Although this is probably just gossip, Modric is one of the players I put forward a few weeks back and he would be ideal for the squad because of his premiership quality.
It would be interesting to see how the twitcher deals with the matter.

Is this another smoke screen in the making to cover up the snubbing of the dark side?
So we read in a week or so,
Luka Modric snubs city to stay at Tottenham
What a bunch of plonker’s MuEN same old story’s making the rounds
Ps it’s not like we can’t afford him like manure!
“City have made one or two signings that will blow your brains out” said Harry Redknapp!
on the 10th may 2011
Arry said this and we have all mused about it wondering what he meant, perhaps this is the start of it, who knows, but this lad is a top footballer, he wants him to stay badly, which is why we should go all out for him, if he knows nowt else, arry knows how to pick a player!
Sorry but don't see what all the fuss is about. Another name suddenly being over-hyped by the Media and everyone jumps on the band wagon. Hope we don't fall into the trap.
In fact, nobody in the Prem springs to mind as a must have.
would prefer Bale
I can't really see him and Silva playing in the same team
to be honest with all and sundry,i am sick of hearing who and who we are not linked with, remember last year,we were linked with 900 players that were joining city,i for one, dont take any notice anymore of useless paper talk..if i want real information, like i have done before,i will go to carrington and ask the people in the know..

Adebayor to spurs in exchange sounds fair to me.
modric is ok but i would prefer Xavi, I could actually see Arry selling Modric for 40mil
to fund a move for a big name striker for them, unfortunately though I think he would prfer to sell him to his pal bacon face, but Utd probably couldn't afford him now they have splashed out so much on ' Phil Jones and Ashley young .... hahahahahahaha

Modric is proven in PL, but that Javier Pastore looks very good, if Tevez stays We should go for him, I could see Silva,Pastore and Tevez tearing up defences in europe.
Not intersted. He's a Diet David Silva. The best player in a decent team. We've made the mistake of paying over the odds for that type before; i.e. Barry, Lescott and Milner. Decent players, but surround them with equal and even better players and they soon blend into the background. Modric would look like a poor man's Silva as soon as you put them next to each other. Plus he'd probably cost about the same amount.
Nope, no thanks...
No doubting his talent. But where exactly does he fit in?
For £30 million+ Modric is way over priced. How about offering Bayern Munich Boateng +a substantial amount of cash for a far superior and younger player known as Thomas Mueller.A box to box midfield player with an eye for goal who is able to defend as well as he attacks,a player who would be a better all round option by far
Harry Redknapp the voyeur who it appears is forever peering into Eastlands, enthralled by the activities therein would never consent to sell Modric, unless of course the figures involved resembled the yearly profits of British Petroleum. This possible transfer to City, according to much of the press is I believe a none starter. However, old arry has pulled off the coup of the season by convincing the English press that Spurs have actually had a improved season on last year. How he has quite managed to convince the media and not is own supporters is a contradiction both baffling and amusing, anyone witnessing his interviews will be astonished at the certainty in which he proclaims that supposed truism. Apparently his argument centers around the Italian job, that masterful heist in Milan. Thinking himself a Michael Caine protege who pulled off a similar escapade in that famous 60's movie, Harry continued with all manner of compelling facts, congratulating Spurs and indirectly himself with such grand eloquence on a "wonderful season" illuminated with brilliant football, that momentarily I was convinced myself. Perhaps he really believed in his own rhetoric? Imagine finishing fifth and not winning any trophies justifies an improvement on last year. None of the interviewers which I witnessed had the imagination to challenge this peculiar Alice in Wonderland piece of logic.
He would fit in well with David Silva though they are very similar in size and style of play. They'll have to contribute some goals which is my only concern based on their goal totlas from last year. I see Barry moved to the bench to be used as a late game sub to help close out matches. Yaya would move deeper into a more traditional role.
what worries me is we need to get rid of a lot of players first or the wage bill will skyrocket and i find it hard to see how were going to get rid of the likes of bridge, bellers, ade, rsc and all the other loaned out players
