City linked with Ghana World Cup star

Ghana World Cup midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah is a target for City, according to his agent.

The 22-year-old played in all five of his country’s matches as they reached the quarter-finals in South Africa last summer.

And the £25m-rated central midfielder has continued to attract attention from clubs across Europe following a series of impressive displays in Serie A with Udinese this season.

City boss Roberto Mancini has followed Asamoah’s progress in Italian football closely, and Claudio Vagheggi – the player’s agent – believes a transfer to Eastlands is a possibility.

“I cannot deny that there are several clubs interested,” Vagheggi told the Italian press. “Manchester City? It’s true but they are not the only ones interested in Asamoah. Fiorentina were among the first to show an interest in the player.”

It is not the first time that Vagheggi has tried to talk up City’s interest in Asamoah.

Last July, he claimed that both the Blues and Arsenal were chasing the midfielder, who is under contract with Udinese until 2014. Asamoah’s ambition is understood to be to play in the Champions League next season, and Udinese are currently one point off the top-four spot in Serie A that would see them qualify.

Vagheggi has suggested that Asamoah’s future will be discussed further once the season is complete.

“We have decided not to speak about Udinese’s transfer market right now because it is premature,” Vagheggi said.

“Udinese’s strategy is to focus on the season right now.

“If the team continues to do so well and perhaps reach an important goal by the end of this season, then, Asamoah is likely to remain.”

Should City go for Asamoah? Have your say.

sounds like he is using Citys name as a bargaining tool for a pay rise!

Why would we want another defensive midefielder??? We need another creative midfielder, pastore or sneijder would do nicely.

This is a non story in my opinion.

These articles make me laugh - it was not that long ago when Agents had never heard of Man City and now they are falling over themselves to get some top commission!!
At the very least it gets their player some publicity in dumb papers like this one.

We need a David Silva clone. Who best fits that description?

Why not?He seems the right age,and we will be replacing Patrick Viera either with Michael Johnson or another aquisition. We will also need to replace SWP with Weiss or another aquisition. The same applies to Shay and Jo.Here I assume that Roberto wants to sell all the other loanees.

You have to laugh, another agent talking up his player's prospects by associating it with City. Not only that, the MEN automatically price him at £25m. It appears that whenever we're supposed to be after a player his price starts in the mid 20's. It's a joke.
