Manchester City

We made it tough, admits Johnson

CLINCHER: Aleks Kolarov (right) celebrates his goal with Carlos Tevez
Adam Johnson claimed Manchester City should have won more easily after they made it through to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 4-2 win over Leicester.

Although they led for most of the game, City found themselves pegged back almost immediately after Carlos Tevez opened the scoring 16 minutes in, Paul Gallagher levelling from the penalty spot, and then under pressure late on as Lloyd Dyer made it 3-2 following goals from Patrick Vieira and Johnson.

Aleksandar Kolarov finally settled City nerves at the end, but Johnson believes both Leicester goals were lucky.

"They pushed us, and in one-off games anything can happen," he said on ESPN. "But we made it hard for ourselves.

"I didn't think it was a penalty for their first goal, and the ref played a one-two for their goal and otherwise it would be 4-0.

"When we go two goals up here we shouldn't be put under pressure but a little break for them gets them back in the game, but Kolarov scored a great goal at the end."

Roberto Mancini was satisfied with the win but admitted his team need to defend better, having conceded three at home to Wolves on Saturday.

"It is always difficult in the FA Cup," he said. "Leicester played very well in the first 20 minutes but after we played better and scored the three goals.

"But again in the last 15 minutes, like against Wolves, we thought that it was finished and we conceded another one."

Describing his defence right now as "so-so", he added: "We must improve. We have conceded a lot of goals in the last three games, so we must be sure to work hard."

Leicester boss Sven-Goran Eriksson, making his return to the City of Manchester Stadium, was happy with the effort from his team.

"We were in the game for 90 minutes at home, and 87 here, and that's good," he said.

"They were better than we were tonight, but we never gave up and from 3-1 down at half-time, coming back to 3-2, we're in the game again and of course I'm happy with that.

"It's a little difficult. They have some better players than us, but I think we need to be proud."

What do you think? Have your say.

Great game boys v v exciting; great captain who does all his talking on the pitch and still gets MOTM even when he misses a penalty. Who's better Tevez or Maradonna MUEN ? You lot were aving a larf right ? I mean Berbacrap - wouldn't get into our first 11.

You lot can spout all the bull and propaganda you like, but tonight showed you for what you really are. Forget your team, yes they are quality players, albeit mercenaries, I'm talking about you lot, the fans...or should that be so calle/alledged fans?

To have TWENTY THOUSAND empty seats (just over half the capacity!) is a disgrace. And that is not taking into consideration the 6,000 Leicester fans there, which is nigh over 20% of the overall attendance!!

To say you lot are a big club with is a joke and the majority of the watching audience will have seen it too.

If ever there was a statement confirming that Manchester is RED, then this was it.

I look forward to your obvious replies once you get back home to Stockport.

Oh and by the way, despite the low turnout...do you realise that you're actually contributing to FC United in their quest to build anew ground..???

Now that is what I call irony.....

Leicester played their part but when we played there was only one team on the pitch and showed in the scoreline which rather flattered Leicester.

When we won in 1969, believe it or not, we didn't crush all those put in front of us! We did it by refusing to lose the 5 rounds up to the Final and then winning that!

We are on an unbeaten run of 17 matches, so some supporters should spend some time seeing the REAL positives and don't get too focussed on the wobbles, we can't expect to steamroller everyone at this stage of our development.

Face it, fellas, we are having a GREAT season, chill and enjoy the journey!

Again JOB DONE - All that matters in getting to NEXT round of the World's Greatest Football Knock-Out tournament (STILL IS & ALWAYS WILL BE (take note you knockers, the pompous ones & others !)), albeit on chances (yet again - a.k.a. City v Wolves recently) it should have been 6 or 7 - 1 to City. Getting to sound a bit greedy like certain fans from another club here aren't I (calm yourself down Mart !). Not a lot to complain about from the boys though when you consider we've scored 8 in last 2 games. Defensively, whilst we've conceded 5 which is unlike us, I'm sure that providing we're WINning most of our games and DRAWing the odd one then success will come our way regardless of how many we concede, with more entertainment in the bargain.
Although listen to the pillocks on TV (a.k.a. Hansen & Lawro) as well as the Jelous Mob & Red Top media Junkies and you'd believe EVERYTHING was in crisis ON & OFF the pitch at City.................."Boring Boring City - they're only winning 1-0 or 2-1 every week" - What's their next Headline, maybe somet like this ?........."Only just getting over the finishing (WINNING) line at City alongside their defensive frailties" - OH PLEASE......SNORE SNORE SNORE !

Glad I was part of the 27,000+ (best crowd in tonight's 3 x Replays, which all involved at least ONE prem side in each tie) at Eastlands tonight. Ironically considering game was shown LIVE on ESPN and was a replay against a side we were expected to turn over in first game (never mind second) then an Excellent turn-out from Manchester's fans, a good 5k turned up from Leicester as well and made up for a Very Good Atmosphere - take note the 47000 (quieter) mob that turn up for each Prem. home game (!).

Throw back to the GOOD OLD DAYS that atmosphere tonight I thought, in that I felt like I was back singing with the 1980's loyalist crowd that have followed us through THIN & THINNER all these years (like meself) - the LOYAL 20,000+.

Was glad to tip a few coppers into the Neil Young collection Bucket at Mary D`s tonight as well, where it was nice to see a replay of the 1969 FAC Final (City 1 Leicester 0 (N.Young GS)). And NO I wasn't reminiscing about that 1969 Final before you start you cheeky pig - give us a bit of slack will you I'm ONLY 40 !

BOBBY MANC & HIS STAFF ARE DOING A GREAT JOB - THE BOYS IN BLUE ARE ON THEIR WAY UP & ARE LOOKING TO PROVIDE THE WORLD'S GREATEST, MOST LOYAL FANCLUB (Manchester City Fans of course) THE SUCCESS THAT WE DESERVE !

LOVE IT !

CTiD.........Martin Bebbington (Salford Blue with a SeasonCard in South Upper - 1 of MANY).

it does not matter if city win the fa cup and the league, city fans will still be miserable for years to come. but then again city probably will not win anything for the same reason. so spend as much as you can because city do not deserve to win anything because city fans do not know how to be happy...tick tock...

What exactly is a "one off game" and why can "anything" happen in it ? One of those football clichés which has always puzzled me. I heard somebody on TalkSport the other day refer to a "series of one off games" which confused me even more. Anyone able to enlighten me?

Your Joking 100% Blue your Obivously a red .. Tevez has scored 47 goals in 67 matches for city - I doubt any player at utd has achieved this feat - if he scored the pens he missed the great man would be on 50 goals ..

Well done City for getting through last night..
For me though we need a top draw center half to play along Kompany, Lescott & Kolo are not good enough they only win 50% of headers are constantly caught out of position. Lescott just isnt mobile enough so for me get a center half and we improve again.
Just my opinion !!!

Oh yea...and Jo should be playing for some pub team.

No one will understand how happy i am that Kolarov has scored. Hopefully that will be the first of many long ranger's from him. Quality player.

Johnson missed two sitters, the first of which was nice and early....Viera did a "Lescott" and gave them a lifeline penalty....King Carlito misses another penalty and the culprit does not get red carded to boot....Lescott did a "Lescott" and hung poor Vinny out to dry for their second goal which was clearly offside.....the right score should have been 7-1.....Johnson is right...

Manchester City’s failure to beat Leicester, who are currently in the bottom half of the Championship, lead to the replay which was held at Wastelands last night.

I’m sure Edin Dzeko is really confused though. In his first press conference with the club, he revealed he had been told that most football fans in Manchester supported City, not United.

If that is the case, why were there over 20,000 empty seats at City’s ground last night? Tickets were on sale today at £15 for adults and £5 for kids. Leicester brought 6,000 fans tonight, making the home attendance just 21,755.

enjoyable game, some entertaining football and four goals is always nice.

only real negative for me remains the frustration of seeing AJ on the right and Milner on or towards the left. It just does not work IMHO and the reason why AJ fluffed the one on one was he was tring to come in from the right and get it on his left. We'll see no headers from Dzeko with the two wingers on the wrong side.

Ref was ok apart from the inexcusable lack of red card on the penalty and no booking for the dives in the box by Abe and Dyer.

Perhaps @ £15 adults and £5 kids was to much to ask for?
Why not let your fans in for free . . . i mean you keep on bleating how much money you have . . . maybe then you could fill the council house!!!

21,000 and 6,000 of them were from Leicester . . . hmmmm . . . still what do you expect from a club of mercenaries coming and going . . . a bit like their loyal fans!

Is it really 35 years? . . . No love you see.
