The England midfielder completed his transfer from Aston Villa last week and he made an instant impact at Eastlands by setting up Gareth Barry's early goal.
Asked if he was nervous Milner told Sky Sports 1: "Not really - I was just glad to get out there and play.
"Luckily I was selected. It's always tough against Liverpool - but we got three goals and a clean sheet."
Of the game, Milner added: "They didn't cause us too many problems in the first half, then they came out in the second half.

"The club is moving forward, they've signed a lot of great players.
"There is great competition which is healthy for any team so hopefully we can build on this."
Micah Richards insisted he was going to claim the second goal although Carlos Tevez would dispute that.
"It's definitely mine, I am definitely claiming it," said Richards.
"He had a fantastic game and wanted to cap it off with a goal but he has got the penalty so I am having that."
Of Milner, he added: "You work hard, you get a chance."

Milner has real heart, real desire, wants the ball, is a winner!
What a fantastic debut, but everyone was superb tonight, held up the ball well passed it well and looked like they wanted to win the game and did in some style.
This is the NEW City, Mancini's City, how he has transformed them from last season, when he was just steering them through, now he's building his own team and they already look awesome, with half his signings out, the possibilities this season are scary!

compare Milners performance and commitment to that of Stevie "syrup" Ireland for villa last night - if thats even possible...........
Komps and Kolo again looked solid - what a great bonus that these 2 are looking so solid together, as well as technically comfortable in possession...........

To all you critics out there with your garbage drivel you produce on a daily basis about our great club, stick that in your pipes and smoke it! How anyone can say Ireland going to Villa and Milner coming to us was bad business. Milner played better than Ireland ever did and that was his first game with new team mates!
6 English internationals in the starting 11....fantastic for us and England.
