Hughes, who signed his fellow Welshman at Blackburn before taking him to City for £12m in January 2009, was confirmed as the new manager at Craven Cottage on Thursday.
He discussed transfer targets with chief executive Alistair Mackintosh – another former Eastlands employee – over the weekend after watching his new charges lose 1-0 at Portsmouth in a friendly.
Bellamy’s future at Eastlands is uncertain following the arrival of David Silva from Valencia for £25m last month.
The 31-year-old has vowed to fight for his place at City, and Blues fans are keen for him to stay.
A poll on this website revealed that 95 per cent of the 1,300 who voted don't want the club to sell him.
But Hughes is hoping he can tempt Bellamy to west London.
Hughes’ interest will force Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp to increase his £4m valuation of the speedy wide man – although neither he nor Hughes have yet made an official bid.
What do you think? Have your say.

If it was up to me i wouldnt sell him and he would definitely be in my squad, back up for silva on the left or upfront with ade or if he can play on the left im sure he can play on the right. Why sell him to another english club???

Of course, Hughes hasn't got the Sheik's money to throw around now, so no doubt he will try and take Bellamy for free or on loan - bit like 'Arry the Spiv !
We should keep Bellamy unless he wants away - still capable of being an impact player with us.

He did score some crucial goals and his workrate was very good up the right end of the park, but he couldnt stop the cross vs Utd in the carling first leg or the cross in the penultimate game vs Spurs so he has glaring weak points and aint getting any younger so if we get a decent bid may be time to bite the hand before its too late.

if bellers wants to leave id back him cause he has given nothing but 200% for city since he arrived - i always had a low opinion of him till he signed for us and i saw how much he gave on the pitch - i hope he stays but if not id wish him all the best..........
however if mancini thinks the squad would be, for whatever reason, better off without bellamy in it this season (maybe un-rest etc who knows) then i back the manager. he clearly knows what he's doing and for all our opinions on here he is the one who knows what is best for the dressing room as he is in amongst it 24/7.............
above all we all need to back mancini and his decisions. no one can argue he is building a squad that is young, versatile and of high technical quality. he is also showing strengh in the negotiations and i like that, he knows we have the money so he doesnt see why we should be paying way over the odds - thats a sign of his character and i think that is also what makes him a good coach.............
boateng was a snip at 11 million
silva and yaya cost 24 million each but that is about right for them, they are both top top players
kolarov is possibly second only to evra for europes best left backs, why else would madrd bid for him (before they turned to cashly cole), so again 17 million is about right. cashly cost over 20 million a few years ago after all.............
balotelli is worth 25 mllion if rooney was seen as good business at 27 million a few years ago..............
yeah we're spending money this summer but i believe we are getting good value...........

This 'he's past his best' business, 'he's an impact sub' is ridiculous, he outplayed and outshone many of his so called peers and had a large hand in discarding the 'world class' Robinho back to Brazil. I think he's so much more than a back up player, he should be an integral part of the squad we are trying to put together. I reckon given the fact that Silva is coming in all it will make him be is hungrier than ever. LIke when he was up against said Brazilian last year. I would certainly fancy a Bellamy in my side come wintertime than a lightweight sunnier climes man like Silva.
I have to confess at being very worried this year as to what is happening to our team. A lot of the people we are linked with I don't think will make a marked improvement to our squad, we are keeping people like Viera who will be in our 25 for sure and probably a very over the hill Silvinho, yet looking at getting rid of Bellamy and Ireland. It just doesn't make sense. We should be building a team that is used to playing together and instead it's going to be back to square one again by cutting out some of our very good players - they're not even fringe players.
I think this year will be a real test for Mancini, I think he still has a LOT to prove, I know I'm not convinced at all, though I hope he proves me wrong. Mess up this year and we will become the laughing stock of football..

Why would City sell Bellamy to one of our rivals? And for a cut price fee to boot?
Is 'Arry as daft as he looks?

If I was Craig I would grasp the opportunity to get as many starts as possible for another club.
On another note you can see the frustration with Joe Hart as he realises he is not going to play every game.
I'm sure this is going to get to several of our players over the next couple of seasons.
