ROBERTO Mancini has admitted he may have to leave some big names off the Manchester City squad list come September 1.
New Premier League regulations allow clubs up to 25 players aged 21 or above – which under the phrasing of the rules means anyone born before January 1, 1989.
Clubs can have an unlimited number of players born after that date, though.
Eight of those 25 players must be homegrown, which means they must have spent at least three years registered with an English club before the age of 21.
That squad then cannot be changed until the January transfer window opens, apart from in exceptional circumstances.
Mancini has said there is no guarantee that Craig Bellamy or Stephen Ireland will make the cut.
“It is clear that some of the players we have here are going to be left off the list,” said Mancini.
“I am not sure yet if one of those will be Bellamy.”
Here is how the City squad breaks down.

Shay Given
Joe Hart
Stuart Taylor
Micah Richards
Wayne Bridge
Nedum Onuoha

does anyone know if the unlimited under 21's have to be homegrown???
for example, would balotelli have to be registered as a player or would he qualify as an unlimited under 21?

This is a disgrace.. what planet is Mancini on.. Bellemy was a rock last season, he is everything i want to see in a player, passion, conviction, work ethic, flair, natural goal scorer, speed, aggression... When you think that someone like Viera is guaranteed to make the cut you have to ask does this manager actually know what the hell he is doing. This is CRAZY does anyone else agree???
Players excluded:
Shaleum Logan
Kelvin Etuhu
David Gonzalez
Jo
Felipe Caicedo
Players who are unlikely to be here:
Robinho
Players Injured:
Michael Johnson.
That the 25..... I can understand to a point why Mancini has said certain players my be missed out but it's the press that have asked about these players first - Ireland & Bellers. Even if we get more signings in, surely the likes of RSC and Garrido and more obvious choices?? Not only that, i am sure there will be one or two leaving before January.
Logan on loan or sell
Etuhu behaviour means he could be on his way
Gonzales under 21 goalkeeper
Robinho class but seems to want away
Jo on borrowed time
calcedo loan or sale
that leaves 26 3or 4 dissatisfied to leave to make way for any furter additions
Cant see what all the fuss is about myself, its easy to sort.

No they dont have to be home grown.
straight forward even with the addition of balloteli only six need to be sold on or dropped to the reserve team imo they are as follows:
1. robinio sell dosnt want to play for us anyway
2. caciedo sell hasnt cut it
3. jo sell nuff said
4. kelvin etuhu loan
5. shalem logan loan
6. garrido/bridge sell (argument to keep garrido younger and may help silva)
that gives us 25 players plus the under 21s including balloteli so need need to sell our other assets and i,m sure bobby manc knows this
what do you think
Etuhu, Logan, Caciedo, Jo, Gonzalez, M.Johnson, Bridge/Garrido, Robinho, Ireland.
Keep bellers!!
Anybody left out of the 25 can still play in Cup matches - we're going to play a lot of matches this season (hopefully).
As to the comments about Bellers, as you say he has "....passion, conviction, work ethic, flair, natural goal scorer, speed, aggression..." but he also has knees that won't take the punishment of a 50+ game season.
I love Bellers and hope he's in the squad but to ask whether the manager knows what he's doing is daft, he knows a lot more about what's going on that we do!
Zab,Boateng,Toure,Toure,Kolarev,Kompany,De Jong,Viera,Silva,Adebayor,Tevez,Bollatelli (12)
Given,Hart,Richards,Bridge,Lescott,Wright-Phillips,A Johnson,Barry,Bellamy,M Johnson (10)
= 22, loads of room, what is all the fuss about?????? (even room for Ireland, Santa and Robinho)
OUT
Logan, Etuhu, Gonzalez, Garrido, Santa, Jo, Caicedo
and buy a new striker, That would leave Carlitos, Ade, bellers a new signing and Nimely up front kolarov bridge lescott and barry who can play left back, boetang, richards, zab and toure who can play RB, loads of CB, aj, silva swp and villa for wingers, and loads of midfielders.
Stephen Ireland, you haven't seen the last of me (28/07/2010 at 10:43)
I know where you are coming from but every season we move on and we wil continue to. Bellamy is a good player and will hopefully make the cut but this can only be good for the team and the squad.
He does play his heart out but is he as effective as the new players we have bought/are buying i.e. Silva. If bellers gets left out and we do well next season then all will be forgotten. If we dont then.....
But i dont agree about mancini i trust him 110% he knows what he is doing I am certain of this, he is building a team better than any of us could have dreamed of even 2 years ago. He has to be trusted and he will have to make tough decisions along the way, i think bellamy will make the squad tho in all honesty but I think Ireland is gone.
Shame but its tough at the top.
Believe.
Out either sold or season longb loan:-
Roque Santa Cruz
Jo
Felipe Caicedo
Vladmir Weiss
Robinho
Javier Garrido
Kelvin Etuhu
The players that are 50/50 as they may want regular 1st team football:-
Wright - Phillips
Bellamy
Zabaleta
Ireland
Richards
What will happen with M Johnson?
For me the players who should miss out are...
Logan, Etuhu, Gonzalez, Garrido, Vieira, Robinho, Jo, Caicedo and maybe Cruz if we get a good replacement. Don't forget this is only for the Prem, so Vieira, Robinho, and Garrido can get a good run out in the cups. My big worry is that Mancini will include Vieira and Robinho at the expense of Bellamy and Ireland.
The comment re Bellamy was an answer to the question "Will Bellamy or Ireland make the cut", what answer do you expect him to give?

I couldn't agree with you more!!!!!! Bellamy would be my first name in the 25. I'd like to see him stay at City and go on to coach the youngsters. One of the young players on the US tour was saying that Bellamy gave him the most helpful feedback and support (as well as the occasional rollicking!!).
Viera's inclusion in our squad has always bewildered me.
Why are Jo and Caciedo even mentioned.
out of that list only 23 of them are players I would have in the squad, leaving 2 places.
homegrown
Given/Hart/Taylor/Richards/Bridge/Onuoha/Lescott/Ireland/SWP/A Johnson/Barry/Bellamy
foreign over 21's
Zabaleta/Boateng/Kolo/Yaya/Kolarov/Kompany/De Jong/Viera/Silva/Adebayor/Tevez
If we bring Milner and Balotelli in then thats the 25 man squad. If another strikr is brought in as well as Balotelli then room will have to be made, which could spell the end for Bellamy(although I personally would prefer him to stay)
of the rest Logan/Etuhu/Garrido/Jo/Caicedo/Robinho likely to be on their way out
RSC could be added to the squad of 25 if no other forwards bought in,otherwise he will be sold
M Johnson out injured so may well be used for Carling Cup games if/when fit again
Gonzales likely to just be a reserve player(28 years old so unless Hart goes on loan again will likely not be in squad) or sold now that we have Taylor re-signed and Hart back
this squad could of course be reduced further if Mancini decides that the likes of Onuoha/Ireland and SWP are surplass.
there is still plenty of time, and of course his idea of who is in and out will change with any new additions

Totally agree mate, How can he even consider leaving Bellamy out, just hope he gets it right...for his sake !
Unless he is being sold how can Bellamy not be in the 25?
WHAT AN ABSOLUTE JOKE!!!!!
my 25 would be.........
1)HART
2)GIVEN
3)TAYLOR
4)BARRY
5)LESCOTT
6)A.JOHNSON
7)SWP
8)C.BELLAMY
9)RICHARDS
10)BRIDGE
11)IRELAND
12)M.JOHNSON
13)DE-JONG
14)KOMPANY
15)K.TOURE
16)Y.TOURE
17)TEVEZ
18)ADEBAYOR
19)KOLAROV
20)SILVA
21)VIERA
22)ZABALETA
23)BOATENG
24)SANTA-CRUZ
IM SORRY BUT HOW EASY IS THAT - TALK ABOUT THE MEDIA BLOWING THINGS OUT OF PROPORTION!!!!!
we easily cover the 8 homegrown thingy and ive even left a space for milner. im also assuming onuoha will exit after his soccer AM "performance" and as for Balotelli he's 19 so wouldnt effect the quota requirements at all.
if we get another striker on top of that then ship out santa-cruz, plus im pretty sure robinho isnt coming back, if he does he can easily be fitted in - again maybe replacing santa-cruz..............
boo hoo we may have to cut garrido, jo, caicedo, logan, gonzalez and etuhu (LITERALLY THAT IS ALL) but i wouldnt care if we swapped all of that lot for some magic beans.............EASY!!!!!!
Don't see the problem. There are only 32 over 21s anyway on that list and seven of them are unlikely to make the squad anyway. It may become a problem when/if Balotelli, Zeko and Milner or anyone else arrives, but prsumably Roberto will know who he intends to leave out if he makes more signings.
Mancini does seem to be moving Bellamy towards the exit door - unjustified on last season's form. Others to go first - Etuhu, Caicedo, Robinho, RSC etc

Agree, we absolutely MUST keep him in the squad. This is a guy who was ready to retire from playing for his country so that he could give City everything last season. I wouldn't go so far as to say Mancini doesn't know what he's doing, but I'll be very disappointed if he can't see the effort Bellers puts in. OK he might be a handful and they've maybe crossed swords over training issues, but that is man management stuff which should be ironed out. It never impacted on Bellamy's effort levels at the end of last season, so no reason to think that it will now.
Having said that, I fear it might be too late - pics and TV I've seen of Bellamy so far this season have a look of skulking around about them rather than the chin-up confident strut that he had a year ago. I hope he hasn't already begun to feel excluded because he was without doubt my favourite player last season and I really want to see him in a blue shirt again in the next.
