Kolarov deal nears conclusion

Lazio coach Edy Reja hopes Manchester City target Aleksandar Kolarov's future will be decided soon.

The Serbia international is set to join the Blues after a £16m fee was agreed after City executives travelled to Rome.

However, no deal has been finalised between the two clubs so far for the 24-year-old.

"For over a month he has been linked with a move away from Lazio but nothing has happened," said Reja.

"I hope a decision will be taken soon.

"It's clear that if he leaves, I will need to find an alternative player for that position."

Kolarov is under contract with the Serie A club until June 2011 and has a buy-out clause of 22.5million euros.

16 million agreed but no deal finalised. Lazio say that don't know what's going on.

Sounds to me like this guy is looking for somebody to gazump city. To be fair to Lazio they are on teh brink of financial disaster so I guess he is only doing what anybody in his shoes woul do. Get him signed.

According to the Italian newspaper,La Repubblica, yesterday a deal was agreed last Thursday evening. The fee was 18 million euros, but on Friday Lotito, Lazio's president said that Kolorov was still a Lazio player and that there was no deal with City! Lotito is apparently a real maverick and by Friday was refusing to compromise - he wanted the full 22.5 million. According to La Repubblica City were "annoyed" and had immediately made contact with Spurs about Bale and Barca about Maxwell. But, Kolorov wants the move and has expressed his anger to the chairman/president and a meeting is, it seems, scheduled for today between City and Lazio at which La Repubblica expects the matter to be sorted out. We'll see. But City appear to be behaving very astutely. Lazio are in serious financial difficulties and if we won't pay the 22.5 million, it's unlikely anyone will, especially as Real pulled out a while ago. And as Repubblica asked - is it realy worth jeopordising 18 million for very little more? But then again, Lazio supporters seem resigned to Lotito's antics!

the headline makes it sound like just a few t's need crossing.......talk about deceptive......

the actual story seems to be saying -

"lazio coach HOPES deal is near conclusion"

seeing as that is the job of the owner who has only been quoted as saying - "there has been no formal agreement/bid/god knows what" - makes the title of this piece seem about as accurate as a heskey volley............

kind of annoying and confusing MEN...................

There's something slightly strange going on with our signings this summer. They appear to be addressing the actual weaknesses in the squad we had last season. This is most 'un-Citylike'. It's as though there are people who know what they're doing along with the will, wherewithal and finance in place to make things happen. Strange times indeed.

The coach says he want s decision soon and you write the 'deal nears conclusion'?

You have now caused me to waste 20 seconds of my life reading this non-story then another minute submitting this comment....if there's no news just admit it and stop pretending there is. I would prefer another article on Mancini's new hair cut and how he is struggling to keep it looking nice way the hairdresser did it!!!

At the risk of doin a Sven I have had a look at this fella on you tube and if anyone needs convincing have a look for yourselve ! Not only can he strike the ball he really knows how to distribute it effectively. Please let this one happen cos it would really address a fundamental weakness in last seasons team!

Kolarov is not on the verge of joining City at all, in fact my guess is that City have walked away from a deal and Kolarov will stay at Lazio this season, unless Lotito sells to Madrid now.

Khaldoon was annoyed with the non-progress being made, and so gave Lazio a 24 hour ultimatium of a "Take it or Leave it" £17m offer, they ummed and arrghed, and we walked away today, he had 72 hours (as Saturday City had a game, and Sunday was a sabath and a holy day in Italy, that is something they believe in), no deal has been concluded, so my guess is that City's time has run out and we walked from this drag along non-deal.

Barcelona tried the same trick with him last season and were made to look VERY stupid indeed, Lazio will look just as daft when Kolarov joins us next season for Sweet FA.

I hope that you are wrong because of all the players we really need it has to be a good LB........I watched Cunningham play well for Ireland....but am sure he needs more time and Bridge disappoints me everytime he plays.

I sincerely hope this deal doesn't collapse, as the thought of Bridge playing at left back is totally unthinkable - he is just useless and frustratingly weak .

Thank you Mark Hughes for purchasing this stump for an unbelievable amount - probably contributed to your sacking !
