Oasis legend Noel Gallagher blown away by City transfer plans

Former Oasis star Noel Gallagher claims to have been given a glimpse of Manchester City plans which will rock the world of football.

The Blues fan says he was let in on the club’s ‘mind-blowing’ transfer strategy by chief executive Garry Cook over lunch.

And while he appeared to rule out moves for Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, Gallagher hesitated when asked about City’s designs on Fernando Torres during a radio interview.

The rocker claimed that Cook had written the names of City’s intended 24-man squad for next season on a napkin.

He said, ahead of Sunday’s World Cup final in Johannesburg, which he attended: “I just had a big, long lunch with Garry Cook and the revelations you lot are going to hear in the next month are going to blow your mind – but I can’t say anything.

“Players coming and going, and where they are going to and where they are coming from.”

Pressed on names, Gallagher replied in the negative to Barcelona superstar Messi and to Real Madrid’s £80million man Ronaldo.

But when asked about Torres, for whom City appear to be fighting a losing battle, he refused to rule anything out.

“Garry was writing out these names on a napkin, about who was going to be in the squad.

“Put it down on paper, and the 24-man squad we will have will be looking to win everything next season.

“That’s not being big-headed and saying we are going to win everything, but we have to go into it thinking ‘Who is better than us in the league?’

“Chelsea have more experience and United have more in Alex Ferguson, but other than that I am looking at the names there and being blown away, thinking that we are rightly third favourites to win the league.”

City seem to be lagging behind Chelsea in the chase for Torres, and face stiff competition from Juventus for striker Edin Dzeko.

But sources in Italy suggest Juve cannot afford to compete with the Blues, and that Dzeko will be meeting with City officials this week.

They also raise the prospect that City may sell Emmanuel Adebayor to the Turin outfit to help facilitate the Dzeko deal.

There is also growing talk of a similar deal with Chelsea, with the Blues giving up the chase for Torres and in return being offered either Nicolas Anelka or Didier Drogba.

What do you think? Have your say.

When I see the player stood inside the COMS holding the shirt / scarf stood next to the boss i will believe it. Until then its all speculation.

Get rid of Adebayor? What's the point in that? We will be back where we started. And Anelka or Drogba in a swap? That's as equally pointless.

If we swap anyone I can see it being Robinho or someone else on the fringes. We have loads of money, that's what we should be dealing in.

Noel . although it would be nice if all these players came off. i wouldn't trust Gary cooke with a shopping list at tescos. never mind buying players.. the sooner we get rid of this bloke the better. he's a joke. who time and again it shows. that he can't keep his mouth shut. untill the players are signed. with this bloke in charge i feel we will lose out on players. that would sign if we had someone else in charge of sorting deals out.._( i.e - mackintosh, bernstein, even kenyon-would be better than cooke.

I know, lets play "Fantasy Napkin". Whoever gets closest to our 24 man squad at the beginning of the season wins a napkin signed by Garry Cook?

GK: Hart, Given, Taylor
DEF: Boateng, Toure, Kompany, Lescott, Lahm, Luiz, Kolarov, Ohouha
MID: A Johnson, Silva, Toure, De Jong, Barry, Schweinsteiger, SWP, Ireland
ATT: Tevez, Adebayor, Dzeko, Balloteli, Drogba

I reckon a target for this squad would be to reach 40 points........ by November!

The only problems City will have is all the new players getting used to being here and Bobby's selection of the team. Silverware is on the horizon and getting closer.

Love it.....

Only Garry Cook could do that - write the names of the transfer targets on a napkin in a restaurant. It's probably the most well known list in Manchester now.

Please can we just NOT sign Torres at the moment? He got injured (again) in the WCF on sunday and it didn't look good. We've got two top drawer marksmen in Tevez and Adebayor and they will both improve their goal tallies this season.

Messi's a big Oasis fan now isn't he? Perhaps Noel could have a word.

Obviously the career in Music is ailing so he has to make noise abour something. I used to play Gealic football with them and they were never big footie fans. Stick to music boys at least you a little about that...................

Just what sort of a Chief Executive do we have, lunching with and revealing City's plans to, Noel Gallagher? Stunning.

HELLO fellow Blues, LISTEN UP! I am sure whoever we buy will ROLL WITH IT. Come the end of the season we will celebrating with CHAMPAGNE as our team goes SUPERNOVA. Yep, we will go SUPERSONIC next season. Meanwhile United will FADE AWAY as they are no longer part of the MASTERPLAN. DONT LOOK BACK IN ANGER at City's past as United now CAST NO SHADOW over us. SOME MIGHT SAY you can't buy the title, go and tell it to those who live in hell (Blackburn). 2 short years ago we were HALF THE WORLD AWAY from having a decent side but thanks to Sheikh Mansour we can KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE. Meanwhile United will SLIDE AWAY into obscurity.

I think some people give Gary Cook too hard a time. As far as I can see so far this summer he has gone after Toure, Silva & Boateng and got them. He has also made enquiries/bids for Milner & Dzeko and refused to pay over the odds. So far so good I would say but lets just wait and see how the Milner and Dzeko situation plays out before vilifying the guy.

Perfect timing, just when I and my brother Blues were getting a bit bored....Cook cleverly uses a through and through Blue who has some knowledge of the Club and who is well known worldwide through his music to say "Manchester City plans will rock the world of football" so relax and enjoy the ride.....I love it because at least now our Roberto will be able to challenge not just for top 4......thank you Sheikh Mansoor may you live to be a thousand years.......

Gary Cook and the City board have shown utter proffesionalism the last few weeks whilst quietly bringing in Yaya Toure and David Silva, 2 top draw players. they have kept their mouths shut, not given any credence to the ramblings of the media and constent speculation about who we will sign, despite us fans clamouring for information. they have learnt their lesson from previous mistakes and are conducting their negotiations quietly and calmly. I am coming round to the idea of Dzeko over Torres, this kid seems pretty adament he wants to join us, has been top scorer in the Bundesliga last 2 seasons and could have the same impact for us as Torres did when he arrived at Liverpool. rumours starting to suface of a deal for Schweinsteiger from Bayern, maybe fanciful, but if true would be another stellar signing, and a magnificent addition to the squad. If we are going to bring in a striker in addition who could make an instant impact, and not cost silly money then Drogba would be a sensible option on a short term deal to get us into the top 4 and challenge for a trophy. Suarez from Ajax looked good during the world cup, although strikers from the Dutch league don't always find it easy to step up to one of the big leagues.

If, and it's a very big if, Garry Cook has done as Noel say's , the sheik should have a word. Probably Goodbye Gary. Ok, two words.
