Manchester City striker Craig Bellamy has admitted he could yet end up playing for Cardiff – but only if Roberto Mancini decides he no longer wants him.
The Blues forward, who turns 31 next month, insists he would not think of going anywhere else but his home-town club if ambitious City reluctantly decide to let him go.
Previous boss Mark Hughes brought the striker to Eastlands from West Ham for £12m in January, 2009.
He has faced constant speculation about his future since Hughes was sacked and replaced by Mancini in December.
Bellamy’s wholehearted performances have won him many fans at Eastlands, while Mancini has always indicated that he sees the Welshman as a big part of his plans.
He scored 10 Premier League goals last season as City just missed out on a place in the Champions League.
But during a visit to Sierra Leone – where his charity, the Craig Bellamy Foundation, operates – Bellamy indicated that he may still have to consider a future away from the Eastlands outfit.
He said: “There’s more than one or two people run that club, so if I get the vote of confidence off five or six people, then I’ll stay.
“But if it’s a couple in other people’s favour, then it might be different – because I do want to be wanted, like every player does.
“I’ve never once – and I never would once – sit back and pick up my money.
“I just couldn’t do that to myself. It would be lying about who I am as a person, so I’ll probably look for that next challenge.
“But I’ll be very shocked if it’s another English club. I’d be very, very shocked.”
Bellamy’s family live in Cardiff, and he has indicated that any move away from Eastlands would have to be nearer to them.
That would appear to rule out any hopes Tottenham or Everton – both linked with the Welshman, along with German club Wolfsburg – might have of tempting him away from City.
Cardiff themselves were touted as a potential destination for Bellamy as they chased promotion to the Premier League.
But their hopes of pulling off a shock transfer appeared to have faded when they lost to Blackpool in the Championship play-off final.
But Bellamy’s comments suggest that a move to South Wales is not entirely out of the question.
He said: “Playing anywhere else in Europe would be too much of a strain on my family because they all live in Cardiff.
“So it really limits me to maybe one place, so that would probably be it.”
Cardiff, who were just pipped to promotion by outsiders Blackpool, have been beset by financial troubles, and face a winding-up order to settle a £1.9m tax bill on June 16.
But a consortium led by Malaysian businessman Dato Chan Tien Ghee has invested £6m to stabilise the club as they attempt to reach a settlement with HM Revenue and Customs.
A successful bid for Bellamy would be seen as a major statement of intent by the consortium as they begin to build for the future.
Should City consider selling Bellamy? Have your say.

This is a worrying statement in itself. This decision should be down to one person and one person alone - Mancini. I presume that the manager has a clear vision and strategy for his team and subsequently the players he requires. The "others" who employed him to make such decisions should let him get on with it and concentrate on acquiring the players he identifies rather than pretending to be football managers themselves.

Easily Leed's best player and with 31 goals somebody Leeds need in their new division.
Holier than thou Moyes has taken the star player from a lesser club.
Different story when somebody does it to him. No class Moyes, no class.

This is something that The Sheik has to sort out. There can only be one leader at the club (COMs) and this statement is not surprising and it is evident that there are too many cheifs and this causes mayhem and confusion.
One can understand the reasons for several players unrest and the seemingly reluctance from Joe Hart to want to return to City. We have the top class players already. But the management Infrastructure needs addressing. Communications on players supposedly coming to City and going from the club have been attributed to Mancini but they too it seems have been misleading or misreported. This site based on the statements issued. Have seen comments from City supporters suggesting up to 15 players leaving and as many coming. What can we expect when they read the reports and quite rightly through this forum offer their opinions.

Mancini does not 'run the club'. He is the manager of the first team. The people who 'run the club' are the Sheik, Khaldoon, Garry Cooke, Brian Marwood and many, many others. You may not like these as individuals but you can put any name in there and it will always be the Owner, Chairman, CEO etc etc.
Maybe we should sack the lot and let Mancini concentrate on non football matters such as negotiating with construction firms, organising the buses for away trips, booking flights etc. That will really help footballing matters.
At any club/business there are a number of people involved in any decision. If Mancini came up with a shopping list of twenty third division players should Marwood just get the cheque book out? Shall we get Peter Ridsdale in? As with any business if you are making a capital investment you go to the board and justify the spend.
I was the MD of part of a large plc. I had 200 people and turned over ££120m but if wanted to outlay more than even £100,000 in capital it had to go to the board cap in hand to justify the investment. I got on with the day to day but any big spend had to be justified.
Who knows what is going on. Maybe Mancini has ligned up three more players in the same position and somebody (quite rightly) is saying well if you want them three why do you need the remaing four in that position.
I though that we had got away from this hypothosising and doing the club down based on Chinese whispers.
For nce can you not just support the club?

Do you know him personally? Have you ever met him?
Statements like yours are totally based on heresay and not fact.
What others would call being outspoken, you interpret as trouble making.
His endeavour and committment to the team effort in every match he plays, is clear evidence of his intent - and that is to see the team win. Is this the character of a trouble maker? Like you say, you appear to be in the minority regarding this one - Thank heavens!
Get real! and look at what he has achieved for the team while he's been here.

No I don't want to read about him 'backing' Moyes (did he really? Doubt it) or glad handing Redknapp, but I won't read too much into either. he gives 100% is very effective and is definitely worth keeping.
