SHAY GIVEN: Showed why he has a reputation as a great shot-stopper during a frantic first half to the season, but some questions remain about his command of the area7
PABLO ZABALETA : Mr Versatile, playing in five different positions, each with extreme commitment. Finished the season very strongly 7
MICAH RICHARDS: Difficult season for him. Some great moments going forward, and three goals, but odd defensive lapses 6
NEDUM ONUOHA: Bad luck has dogged him, with injuries at inopportune moments, and never got the chance to show his talent 6
KOLO TOURE: Began the season with vitality, pace and determination, but looked distracted and sometimes dodgy in last three months of the season 6
VINCENT KOMPANY: Missed first three months after a toe op, but then established himself as the best defender at the club with composed, dominant displays 8
DEDRYCK BOYATA: Voted young player of the year after being thrown into the thrilling Carling Cup derbies against United - and emerging with great credit and promise 6
JOLEON LESCOTT: Looked uncertain and uneasy at first, but was starting to look like an international defender when two injuries interrupted his season 7
WAYNE BRIDGE: His season was overshadowed by off-field personal problems, and it appeared to affect his form badly. Struggled in important climax to the season 6
SYLVINHO: Brilliant attitude, and others could learn from his professionalism. Appearances limited, but scored a stunning goal in Cup at Scunthorpe 6
JAVIER GARRIDO: Was heading for the exit door until Mancini became manager, and briefly revitalised his career. But the club has left him behind a little 5
NIGEL DE JONG: Has become a cult figure among fans for his uncompromising attitude and ferocious tackling. Could improve passing and shooting 7
PATRICK VIEIRA: Injury disrupted his half-season at City, and it was hard to tell whether his rustiness was down to age or lack of match-practice 5
GARETH BARRY: Began the season superbly, a strong presence who keeps the midfield ticking smoothly, but was later inhibited by a groin problem 7
SHAUN WRIGHT-PHILLIPS: Frustrating season for the popular winger. Some brilliant moments, and sometimes failed to rise to the challenge in big matches 6
ADAM JOHNSON: One of the success stories, a left winger who put in some tremendous displays on the right, and netted the goal of the season at Sunderland 7
STEVIE IRELAND: Another erstwhile hero who found it tough to adapt to new systems of play under Hughes and then Mancini 6
MARTIN PETROV: Angry and frustrated under Hughes, he briefly blossomed under Mancini before injury ended his season 5
CRAIG BELLAMY: Brilliant in the first derby, and a torment to full-backs all season, as well as getting 11 goals 8
ROBINHO: Broken ankle interrupted early part of the season, but he failed to show the commitment or the work-rate which great players have 4
EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR: Began the season with a scoring blitz, but then ran into problems with discipline, injury and terrorists - but still bagged 14 goals 7
CARLOS TEVEZ: The superlatives have all been used, but Tev carried City at times, scoring 29 times, working ceaselessly and always at the front of the battle 9
ROQUE SANTA CRUZ: Fears that his history of injury problems may haunt the Blues came true. Didn't play enough to show his undoubted ability but will shine next season 5
BENJANI: Stepped in for a cameo display when a striker shortage struck at Christmas, and reminded everyone of his limitations at this level 5

A unexpectedly good assessment from Brennan.
Most pleasing performance for me has to be Zabaleta, the last ten games he went from being something of a liabilty outside the box to a great tackler and very important defender.
Most disappointing was without a doubt Wayne Bridge, never puts a tackle and not good enough for where we are going, should be the first out of the door.
Adam Johnson deserves more than a 7 imo for coming out of the championship a cementing himself straight into an expensively assembled team and playing like hes been there years. I have Johnno down as our potential player of the season next season.
Player of the year there can only be one. Carlito 'the blue' Tevez.
Roll on next season, cant wait !
dont think mmuch of this new layout btw.
Actually not a bad set of ratings at all. I'd give Johnson an 8, Vieira a 6 and Benjani a 4 but the rest with the comments seem spot on.
Have to agree with most , if not all of Stuarts ratings , and therein lies our problem , there are not enough Players who merit over a 6 for their seasons work ! We need to get the average up to a 7 at least , with a couple more 8 and 9`s thrown in , if we are to break the top 4 next year .
Pretty fair assessment overall
Seems pretty fair on the whole although I would have given Nigel de Jong an 8 aswell. His effort and never die attitude helped us enormously this year.

8: BELLAMY, TEVEZ, DE JONG
7: GIVEN, JOHNSON
6: ZABALETA, KOMPANY, BARRY
5: RICHARDS, ONUOHA, SYLVINHO, WRIGHT-PHILLIPS, IRELAND, PETROV, ADEBAYOR
4: TOURE, LESCOTT, BRIDGE, GARRIDO, VIEIRA, BENJANI
3: ROBINHO, SANTA CRUZ
Very generous marks-7 for Lescott , Barry and 6 for Bridge!!!
Reasonably good effort from RedBren
Sylvinho 6 ???????? More like a 2.
Santa Cruz 5 ? I agree that he may find his feet next year but his contribution this season merited a 3 at best
De Jong was shortchanged with a 7. I'd give him 8 or 9
I've only one comment, and it's not juvenile, slanted or flippant. As a "mature" writer, I'm even wondering why I'm bothering writing, but I know damn well that others will be, too :
WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING USING RED TEXT?
Before I even TRY to get used to your new visual presentation of City news on the MEN site, doubtless some nerd decided to TRY to wind us up by printing the news headlines in red. As your editorial stance is (supposedly) a bit more impartial than the reds who pass comments when they choose to inhabit this site, I'd kinda thought you'd be (way) above this.
Whether it's a mistake (you can't be that stupid) or omission (you can't be that stupid) or both (you can't really be that stupid) it will help if you want to retain ANY correspondents on the site if you'd rectify this IMMEDIATELY.
Mr Brennan's presence on this site, after his stupidly-announced red allegiance, does little to enhance the "quality" the MEN would wish us to associate with the your journalisitc competence or impariality.
In polite terms ... GET IT SORTED .. or rue the day you made the change
I've been an MEN reader for 45 years. Don't ;lose me now.,
Surely De Jong and Johnson desrve more than a 7!! I think De Jong has consistently put in 8 out of 10 performances throughout the season.

Agreed, Zabba has been better than a 7 too imho.
kompany had a blinding season...him and lescott should be first choice.
"Will shine next season?" Let's hope it's not with us!
your right they deserve more.
If 5 is an average season then SWP, Richards and Ireland can't score higher than this. By the same token, Bridge should be a 4. I have been saying on this site for weeks he is not good enough and we must be a top quality left back in time for next season. RSC only a 3 or 4. Awful return for 18 million.
A pretty fair article Thank you! Are the scores based on average marks from the games?
Isn't it ironic that 2 City players we "let go" this season, Dunne and Hart, produced better performances than any of our players and were actually in the premiership "team of the season". It would be interesting to know who has had the final say in these matters. Will we ever know?
Real Mancs Are Blue i agree within sum aspects Bridge just hasn't been good enough for a long time and although I like Zab Tev was without doubt the best player the season butim sure you know that and AJ should of definetly got an 8 at least! I was very happy how Vinnie did this season he wasnt going to take a back-seat and just watch Toure & Lescott take his position he must of trained like he has always at his best and when he came in he was superb. I think (when Lescott comes back fit) that Lescott and Kompany should be our central pairing (but with all these names being thrown about -) but that remains to be seen and we desperately need a new captain because Toure is not really cutting it at his position nevermind as captain! My choices would include Kompany, Barry or De Jong......oh and yes this new lay-out is terrible!!!!!

This is the first time I have posted but anger does that. I am in total agreement with Skybluetwo - THE RED TEXT HAS GOT TO GO !! or we will. All City fans should be screaming from the rooftops. Of course the reasoning will be that the whole site was changed to red and that to change the text to blue would be to change only 1 aspect out of 100. You should have thought about that before you chose red. Either the editor is stupid enough not to realise there are two sides to the city, 2 teams and two colours or the M.E.N is now more blatantly showing it's true colours. If you couldn't go with each teams colours any sound businessman would have gone for a neutral colour. Just completely inciteful and unnecessary. Get it right M.E.N.
some oof the marks are way off
Santa crock has a higherscore than the number of starts how does that work
Dito Benjani. Pertrov.
Were's the mark for Micheal Johnson he play 30 minutes in the cup got to be worth a 5 at least
anyone who played less than 1/2 the game should only get max of 5
bridge he wouldn't even get into single figures, i was scoring.
Toure has been a poor signing also 3-4 at most (althoughhe did improve twards the end)
Fair - but would have given Johnson 8.
It tends to show how important the mismanagement by both the medical staff and the management of Kompany's injury last season turned out to be.
To be fair to De Jong who also deserved 8 at least, shooting isn't part of his amoury, his main game is to act as protection for the back 4 which he did consistently well throughout the season.
Both of the centre back acquistions haven't brought anything special to the defence but to be fair to Lescott he looked better and more comfortable playing alongside Kompany than with Toure. Unfortunately Toure did look comfortable playing alongside anyone.
Stevie Ireland had lost his way even before the health scare against Fulham. He is the player who has been least able to adapt to changes in tactics and formations, I fear for his future at the club due in no small part to his attitude, summed up by his appalling laziness in the home derby and willingness to blame everyone else for Scholes 'ghosting' into the box.
I believe that to achieve any success 7 is the minimum mark for anyone in the team, afterall less than seven isn't a particularly good performance and once we have more than one player performing under that mark we are effective playing with 10 men.
