The board remain unwilling to hand the winger a bigger pay rise after his father, Ian Wright, hit out at the club this week.
Academy graduate Wright-Phillips has two years to run on a £60,000-a-week contract he signed in August 2008.
His return to Eastlands from Chelsea came just days before the Abu Dhabi Group took control at City.
SWP has turned down a year-long extension to his contract, with a pay rise to around £70,000 a week.
The England winger's representatives have called for his salary to be brought closer into line with top earners such as Carlos Tevez and Emmanuel Adebayor, who pick up six-figure weekly salaries.
Wright-Phillips boosted his World Cup hopes by scoring as a substitute in England's 3-1 win over Egypt at Wembley on Wednesday.
And his dad, the former Arsenal and England striker, accused City chief executive Garry Cook and football administrator Brian Marwood of treating the winger "like a youth-team player" and "mugging him off".
City have not commented on Wright senior's verbal attack, but are understood to be reluctant to pay over the odds for a player who will be 30 when his current deal expires.
SWP has been struggling to make the City starting line-up on a regular basis since Roberto Mancini replaced Mark Hughes just before Christmas.
Wright-Phillips had started all but two games for City this season before Hughes was sacked - coming on as a sub in the home league draw with Fulham in October and missing December's 3-0 defeat at Tottenham with an ankle injury.
That injury kept the 28-year-old out of the reckoning for Mancini's first three games.
In fact, the winger has started just four of City's 13 games since returning to fitness, with Mancini trying out Stephen Ireland, Craig Bellamy and new boy Adam Johnson in the right-sided attacking role.
What do you think? Have your say.

Now we read that SWP feels insulted and believes that City don't want him. Grow up, SWP! This childish spat is insulting to the fans - let's hope City don't fall for it.

Here's an idea, instead of whinging about wanting a 100 grand a week contract, why not earn the one you're already on?

If 'mugging off' means getting offered £70K a week - I'm willing to walk alone at night along the dimly lit streets of Ian Wrights world.

Paul Scholes has to his credit, always been the type of player who just gets on with things, and lets his performances on the pitch do his talking.
There are plenty of others, including SWP, who could learn from his approach.
