Wright-Phillips, who returned to City in 2008 after a difficult spell at Chelsea, has two years left to run on his deal at Eastlands.
The 28-year-old is eager to extend his stay but, according to former Arsenal and England frontman Wright, City are "mugging off" the winger.
Wright told talkSPORT: "I tell you what was really awkward, they called him in and he wants to sign his deal, wants to sign for the rest of his career so he can be settled and get ready to go (to the World Cup in South Africa).
"But there's these people like (football administration officer) Brian Marwood and (chief executive) Garry Cook mugging him off, treating him like a youth-team player and not someone who actually wants to be there because of what he thinks Manchester City can do."
Wright-Phillips joined City prior to the takeover by Sheikh Mansour in 2009, and several new arrivals have come to the club on salaries higher than his own.
"He signed before all the money came," Wright pointed out.
Wright expressed disappointment with Marwood and Cook for the manner in which he feels they are treating Wright-Phillips.
He said: "When you have people like Marwood and Cook, who for me are just a bit full of themselves, I'm not sure they know exactly what they are doing deep down so I'm just a bit worried about that.
"I would love him to be settled so he could just concentrate on getting City into the top four, which would be brilliant for all of them.
"That's what he wants to do and then God willing he can end up getting on the plane and going to the World Cup, doing well for England and everything would be great.
"That's what I would like to happen. But you know how football is, it's different from one week to the next."

If reports are to be believed SWP is on £80,000 pw and on the form he's shown since returning, I’d say that’s more than fair!
If SWP loves City as much as is claimed by IW, then I’m sure he could accept the inconvenience of remaining on the same terms for the remaining years of his career, but I guess some people are never happy!!
If anyone deserves a pay rise then it’s got to be Bellers, Tevez, Kompany and De jong. The rest need to have a good look at themselves over the summer and ask if they believe they have what it takes to take this great club forward!!!!!

This is a fair wage for a player of his ability and there is two years left to run on his current contract there is no rush to sign him up on a longer or extended deal the truth is who else would pay him what we are or more, the answer is no one,i love the guy like a lot of city fans but he is not as good as his dad believes.
His final product is poor more times than not, he is finding it harder to go past people and his goal ratio is poor by any standards ok he had a good display against a poor egyptian full back so in my opinion he is not worth more money or a longer contract at the moment.
He apparently wants the same wages as for example tevez this is not possible tevez is twice the player shaun is we as a club can not be held to ransome by anyone sweep has done well out of us and we love him as one of our own,but things change and 80k per week is ample for his limited contributions to the team.
One good performance for england does not mean we have to pay him more and his dad should not go around slatting our officials no matter if we like them or not its actually nothing to do with him he should stick to his crass channel 5 show and keeping his other son on the straight and narrow.
Butt out wrighty stop stirring the muck it wont work with us anymore.

He is on a four year contract and has two years left so it is not time to renegotiate is it. What's Ian Wright's problem here? Shall we extend his contract by another two years so he has another four years? Anything can hppen in two years.
Apparently he doesn't feel appreciate by the club over this despite seeing £80k a week in pay, fans adore him, he is 'one of ours'. What more do you want?
As for Ian Wright acccusiing other people of being 'full of themselves' well the irony isn't lost on me.

And to describe the offer that has been tabled to SWP as "mugging off" is a blatant insult to the 99.99% of the rest of the population who could only dream of earning the merest fraction of what his son is on at City.

I understand that he gives his all for the cause but in all honesty, is he really a world beater, his final ball is not the best but this is something that he makes up with his work rate.
Ian Wright needs to learn to keep his mouth shut as keeping shooting off like he has done this time and in the past is going to cause more problems for SWP, i believe that SWP should distance himself from the comments made by his father immediately. At the end of the day, he still has 2 years to go on his contract so should be happy to accept a £10k weekly increase or lose out on potentially £1million over the 2 years. Greed is a terrible thing.

Then conveniently forget that it was your advice that took him to chelsea(and more money) where his career virtually fell apart, and he missed out on going to the world cup despite being in pole position for it while playing week in and week out for us, then after having rescued him from such a stupid move and on the basis of some good performances and some average ones and some pretty shocking ones.Demand more money!(theres that phrase again)
Belittle all in power who might actually look after you and generally open your mouth without engaging brain to all and sundry in the press who will listen.I appreciate shaun has played through injury(its called being a professional footballer) and i appreciate that he wants a longer contract(as in the future if he doesnt get regular games it will help his resale value,as city would then drop the price in order to offload him meaning the buying club could afford more in weekly wages, eh its easy this agent lark!).
How about we all stop talking about it and let him put in every effort to get us where we want to be this season and then at the END(of the season) everyone sits down and talks about his future then?
I do love shauny and even ian wright himself but sometimes(just sometimes) silence is the better option, bide your time and deal from strength both the wright wright wrights.
P.s probably not the best idea to try and unsettle a player at our club at such a critical time of the season!!

SWP was happy to sign his contract at City, which is said to be around £60k a week, that is over £3 million a year...... how can anybody not be settled on that sort of obscene money.

SWP has a big heart and will run through a brick wall for the team - let's hope it's catching!
However, in this crazy world of paying footballers with brain cells on a par with that of a washing machine such immense and disgusting salaries nothing is surprising. Football management is equally to blame in creating crazy and unequal wage structures.
Eventually this bubble will burst just like the money markets and the result will be empty stadia and clubs entering administration.
Sadly Wright senior has the media mouthpiece and he too having a brain on a par with a washing machine utters his usual rubbish (just like his punditary).
Who would want a dad like that.
PS. Just phoned my son's boss and demanded a £100K pay rise for him. Cannot understand why the boss told me to piss off and son now on transfer list.
